Comments about EMG VoVox Series One Cable Straight to Right Angle:
I purchased the 12 ft EMG Vovox Series One instrument cable for Guitar, Bass in live and recording applications. I got it because of all the hype I've seen online about how it's so dynamic. Some said there is a dramatic difference in tone, clarity, fidelity, and dynamics. Some say it opens up the tonal range. Nevertheless, after using it with various guitars and A & B it with my other expensive Mogami Gold instrument cable, and a couple of cheap cables, I found there is very little difference in dynamics or tone. And, I found the clarity and responsiveness was most notable playing a Fender Strat with passive alnico single coil pickups straight into a 5e3 amp. On the other hand, there was almost no difference between the Vovox and my other cables using humbuckers, or while overdriving the amp, or with various overdrive and modulation effects in the chain. Also, with active single coil pickups, there was not much difference in sound. For Bass, I use flat wounds, and the dynamics of lows were a little clearer/tighter. I'm sure if I used round wound strings there may have been a small bit of clarity on the top end. Nevertheless, this Vovox cable is what it is: a expensive instrument cable with unique design, and good materials. Depending on the application, playing style, and equipment used, the difference in TONE or dynamics will vary greatly from notable difference to none at all. Compared to my old Mogami Gold there was almost no difference in performance. While the only noticeable difference was against the longer and cheaper cables. And even that difference was small and based on playing style, instrument, and volume levels. So is the EMG Vovox Series One worth it? For my application it may not make a huge difference in tone or dynamics. But, it's nice to have a reliable well built light weight cable that I can count on.
