OVERVIEW

The sound of hemp!

The Eminence Lil Buddy 10" 50-watt replacement speaker has clean and full tone. The Lil' Buddy is slow to break-up, but crunchy when driven. Smoother and less defined than many 10" guitar speakers, this lightweight American-made guitar speaker has a hemp cone and is great for jazz and blues.

Comments about Eminence Lil' Buddy 10" 50W Guitar Speaker:

I bought this speaker for my '83 Fender Super Champ. Original speaker was good but too bright sounding for my taste. So after several years of tweaking tone controls and sometimes using a EQ to tone it down a little I thought I'd try a new speaker. I put a Copperhead in my '81 Princeton last year, and really liked it. So I thought I'd try new speaker in my Super Champ. I read some reviews and the Lil' Buddy seemed like a good choice. I stuck it in and played for a while, it really sounded good. Better than the original Fender speaker, much warmer and fuller.

The next thing I wanted to do is compare the 2 speakers side by side. Using an A/B box I connected both speakers to it from each amp and connected them to the Super Champ. I know different size cabinets will influence the over all tone of the speaker. Taking in to consideration the Princeton is much larger than the Super Champ, some difference should be expected. I used 2 guitars for the test my Tele and Ibanez Artcore so I could get a good idea of how it worked with HB's and Single Coils. My final conclusion is the Copperhead out performed the Lil' Buddy. I'd say it was a close race, not a photo finish. It isn't worth my time and trouble to change speakers again, I like it well enough to keep it as is. Yet if I were to do it over again I think I choose another Copperhead for the Super Champ. The Lil' Buddy did what they promised it cut the treble, so now I can set it to 6 or 7 instead at 3 or 4 and get the same tone, and that's a big improvement.

Excellent Replacement 10

Comments about Eminence Lil' Buddy 10" 50W Guitar Speaker:

Needed a replacement speaker for my Super Champ XD. The original speaker was fine at low volumes but pushing it made the low end farty. The Lil Buddy smoothed everything out at low and high volumes. The SCXD now sounds fantastic at all volumes. Smooth lows and mids and the high end is crystal clear with no harshness. It sounds big like a good 12" speaker. Highly recommended.

Comments about Eminence Lil' Buddy 10" 50W Guitar Speaker:

I put the Lil' Buddy 10" in my Fender Pro Jr and wow!!! I bought the speaker because the Pro Jr is a bit harsh on the top end and skinny on the bottom end. After reviewing Eminence's frequency chart, I was sold on the Lil' Buddy because of the flatter response from 1k-3k. I play funk/fusion music on a hollowbody and this speaker turned my practice amp into my small stage amp!

Comments about Eminence Lil' Buddy 10" 50W Guitar Speaker:

Eminence Governor and Lil Buddy GTR spkrs.

hello musicians...

i address this review to those who CAN hear
small differences, and who Dare to try different things...

today, we took the epiphone Dot studio geetar, with
the tiny vox ac4tv mini Tubes amp...to test out
around 15 different eminence speakers !

the above is based on the sweet, bloom sound of
EL 84 tube... and that is what we aimed to get...
a bit MORE than the internal 6 inch speaker,
which is, actually, quite nice on its own too !

but on the Backside, i saw a speaker connection
for 16 ohms...
mmmm

conclusion first...

I chose the Governor, AND the Lil Buddy.
yes, a red and a blue...!
we are gonna make 2 separate boxes, and allow
series connection so they add up to 16 ohms...
OR, be played individually at 8 ohms..

there is Quite a difference between the above 2
spkrs in sound, however, surprisingly, when
Connected Together in series
and played back with the above equipment IN CLEAN
MODE, the sounds are simply AMAZINGLY accurate
and Dream like ! can put one in a trance !

so, GO ahead, and try out various eminence and other
spkrs combinations too ... u will be surprised !

the next bests, which i liked for the slow slow
jazzy type , are :

private jack
tonespotter

so, ,there you have it
one man's test results in a compressed form !

thanks for reading and
always have fun or Joy !

k

Lil Buddy 10

By gilms

Comments about Eminence Lil' Buddy 10" 50W Guitar Speaker:

A great replacement speaker for the Epi Valve Special. More volume and much, much clearer tone. More and clearer treble, midrange and bass--lets you sculpt the tone much easier and gets rid of the muddiness the stock speaker brings.
