If you need a super cutting clanky piercing threshold of pain producing raybeam then look elsewhere.

I've owned and played thru many amps over the years. incl Marshall tube halfstacks (50w Silver Jubilee) and many Fenders both vintage and modern. The two that I've held onto the longest are my 65 DRRI and Blues Jr.

The DRRI has a 30w Weber P12B...it's the best amp I've had but I need a second amp as a backup amp and also to help preserve the DRRI...tube life etc...

The Jr is a fine little amp but can be a little boxy and slightly lackluster at lower volumes (much better when cranked)

I'm not a fan of major amp mods - I believe that if you really don't like the amp you should get a different one because with any major mod there is always something that's sacrificed in order to gain something else ...ie Gain lows and loose some mids that you really wanted to keep. But speakers can have a big impact on the overall complexion of an amp in a good way and it's easy to compare them and decide if it's really an improvement or not.

With the addition of the Rex... the Jr is now on it's 3rd speaker...

I keep the Jr because of it's light weight, small size portability plus it sounds alot like a Fender Harvard tweed I had but it is not quite as thick and rich as the Harvard.... The deal is Harvards have no reverb....I don't use much but I need a touch...can't get by without it.

The Rex to me is a very tweedy speaker and makes my Jr sound much more like my old Harvard...You'd have to be deaf to not hear the difference... It's a nice improvement to the Jr over the Texas Heat that was in it. I don't play metal or twang and Rex may or may not find favor in those camps but if you dig old tweed then I would think you'd dig the Rex... I have no plans to replace the Weber in my Deluxe Reverb but the Rex is definitely a worthwhile upgrade for a Blues Jr.

I wanted the CREX to sound like everyone's description, and to be fair, the eq curve was about right on target and pleasing. My problem with it, and the reason I removed it, was because no matter how clean I tried to get my tone, there was always a slight perception of distortion present. Not metal distortion, of course, but just a loose bit of wooly furryness on the edges of all the notes. It was a little sloppy sounding. For someone who always uses an overdriven tone this may be fine. But for this reason I'm surprised so many people seem to think this is a good speaker for (traditional) jazz. If you want the ability to get pure cleans I can't recommend it. I found the Red White & Blues to be a more versatile choice in my Fender BDRI.

Comments about Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex 12" 50W Guitar Speaker with Hemp Cone:

My setup: Mesa TA-15 with single closed-back 12" cabinet.

I love this speaker. I echo what everyone else says: Smooth sound, without any apparent cone breakup modes (the icepick phenomenon......harsh resonance peaks...I guess there is something to this hemp cone thing). However, it still has a very nice bright top end, which lends itself to good clarity and definition. I've got probably 300 hoiurs on mine, so it's well-broken-in. Probably took abouit 20 hours of playing to break in.

-High sensitivity; great for low-wattage tube amps.
-Sounds wonderful clean.
-Reveals picking articulation very nicely.
-With overdrive, you'll hear all the harmonics you want.
-Smooth, non-fatiguing sound; no harshness, but still plenty bright.
-If you like a darker sound, look elsewhere.
This is a relatively low-watt speaker with high sensitivity. This should be considered by people with low-wattage tube amps. This speaker features a cone with hemp fibers in it. This a popular trend in speaker design these day. Hemp fibers allegedly provides good stiffness but better damping that traditional paper, carbon, or glass cones. Feature-wise, its only missing a cast basket; only has a stamped basket (typical guitar speaker, though).
Well built. Eminence appears to be paying attention to QC. I see no signs of sloppiness in assembly. I don't see any issues that make me doubt that this speaker will last a long time. Packaging is probably overkill, but you can be assured that the magnet isn't going to take any damage during shipping.
Not a cheap speaker compared to other options that are out there, but not excessively pricey. For what you get, it's priced just a tad high. ....... but if you're reading this, you are probably the type that will spend ANYTHING to get the right tone.

Comments about Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex 12" 50W Guitar Speaker with Hemp Cone:

Take a good look at this speaker if you're looking for a replacement. I have a Carvin V3M with 2x12 closed cabinet, that has a Vintage 30 and a Carvin GT12. Although others on Carvin's website may like this combo, I hated it. The V3M is a dark and midrangy amp to begin with, and using it with this combination of speakers was like having ice picks in your ear. Very grating.

I ripped out the GT12 and replaced it with the Cannabis Rex, which I was pleasantly surprised. Although the Eminence verbage says it is "smokey", don't let that fool you. There are plenty of highs with this speaker and it brightened up the V3M considerably, giving it more of a fender vibe (but not that bright). Actually, it's just a good sound, without any spikes. It handles classic rock and blues wonderfully, again, contrary to the Eminence website.

The beauty of it is that the combo of the Vintage 30 and the Rex is a perfect match, although they seem to be disparate. The Vin30 has a fast breakup, not a lot of highs and has that midrange bark, but the sound of both together is solid, a good warm feel that has a lot of "alive" quality to it.

It's hard to attach these subjective qualities to the sound of a speaker, but take my word -- it's a good speaker that deserves consideration if one is in the market for a replacement.

    Perfect
    Exceptional.

I have an old '60s Ampeg Jet, I replaced the worn out jensen with a celestion 25w greenback then tried a celestion Vintage 30. Sold them for a small loss. After reading the eminence "useage chart" I gave this speaker a try. This is what I needed from the start. Save yourself some cash if you want a great sounding speaker for some old time blues and perhaps a touch of rock.

Comments about Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex 12" 50W Guitar Speaker with Hemp Cone:

The sound of the Cannibis Rex speaker is one I have only had in my head.
The stock Blue Marvel in my classic 30 (w/jj's and a Sovtek 5157 phase inverter) had an irritating spike in the upper midrange that made me cringe.
The Rex seems to have notched out the whole range completely.
(though I can't tell from that frequency curve thingy)
I can put my amp on the kitchen table, sit right infront of the cone, (about 20 ft. away of course), and crank the amp all the way, clean, dirty, it doesn't matter....
The sound is not irritating, or icepicky, or muddy, at all.
I walk away without my eats ringing.
The bottom end is big, and resonates @100hz.
At low volume, the speaker sounds dark and creamy, but turn up the guitar volume, and the highs seem to just sear right through the air, with a sizzling , glittery tone. (that's the tubes talkin')
Bottom line=big bottom end, very touch sensitive, with alot of flexablity that is pleasing to my ear.
OH, AND DID I MENTION FREAKIN' LOUD!!!
Compared to the Texas Heat, The Rex has better sound quality, and the Heat, to me, is more aggressive and ballsy for the stage.
Features= well, it's a speaker, I guess one of the features is that the cone moves baaaack and forth, baaaack and forth, baaack and forth......
As for me, Eminence has always put out great quality guitar speakers.
Steel baskets, neat centered decals, uniform color scheme.
I feel the quality when I hold their products in my hands.
This is a tough one, and soooo subjective.
I never dreamed of paying this much for a speaker before i got into the guitar craze....
having said that, if I compare the sound quality, and build quality to other name brands, Emi wins all the time...

Comments about Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex 12" 50W Guitar Speaker with Hemp Cone:

This has become my favorite speaker for nearly every application. It's well known that it does a great Fender clean sound -- the undoped hemp cone tames shrill highs without dullness, and adds harmonic overtones to thicken the sound. Sounds deep and full in an open-back combo.

What's less well known is how well the speaker works for high-gain sounds. In a closed-back cab, it has awesome punch and the high sensitivity means it will give you more dB at the same wattage. I use it in combination with the Eminence Governor (this is my favorite speaker combination) in a Marshall 4x12 (x-pattern) and it's huge-sounding.

I also have two of them in an oversized ported 2x12 that I built for use with my Hiwatt DR504. This is now my favorite speaker to use with the Hiwatt, since it keeps the chime without the ice-pick, and the ported cab allows the deep bass of the Hiwatt head to come through very clearly. When the amp overdrives, the driven sound is just as full and thick as the clean sound, so I can get the best of both.

I've never encoutered a speaker that was this good in both open-back and closed-back, clean and dirty. Equally awesome at basically anything you can throw at it.

Comments about Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex 12" 50W Guitar Speaker with Hemp Cone:

I just recently purchased a Peavey Bandit 1x12,a very nice and versatile amp, plenty loud. But the blue marvel speaker is the down side of the amp.

When switching to the classic O'drive/distortion channel of the amp,the high's can be ear piercing and I don't use single coil on my bridge pick up. I use vintage wound humbuckers.

So I installed the Eminence CR and it definitely solve allot of my issues on that channel as well as giving the amp some great low end, warm mean midrange and definitely sweet high's that is welcoming. Its also very sensitive to legato playing as well as pick attacks. It gave the tone controls on the amp more play room as well, and the clean channel also got warmer and sweeter! Everything that Eminence described it as, is correct. I highly recommend it!

Comments about Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex 12" 50W Guitar Speaker with Hemp Cone:

In the Blues Junior I truly believe you won't be disappointed
I bought a new Blues Junior 3 from Musicians Friend about 6 months ago and really like it. I was made very aware of the need to maintain its warrantee due to the failure of the first one within 40 days. Hence I felt the need to try and maintain Fenders 5 year warrantee and do those "improvements" that only could be reversed easily. I'm a fan of the mod's produced by BillM but they would void my warrantee so I looked for alternatives. This speaker kills the "ice pick" highs and sweetens up the overall sound. It gives you a big improvement in tone all around, in my opinion, without voiding the coverage from Fender. In my opinion this is the speaker that Fender should have put into their little gem and I think they would have a bigger following than they have already. When I reach the end of my factory coverage I will go with some of BillM's mod's but till then I can live with it. Currently everything from ZZ Top to John Mayer's tone is obtainable with this amp and my American Strat with a Carl Martin PlexiTone pedal.
      Seems to be well made

Comments about Eminence Patriot Cannabis Rex 12" 50W Guitar Speaker with Hemp Cone:

Very easy to install in my year-old Hot Rod Deluxe III. I was always wanting to get a better sound out of this amp with the stock celestion speakers. Tried numerous tubes also and was still always tweaking my amp and 2012 Les Paul Standard tone knobs and could not get satisfied with the overall sound.

Decided to try the Cannabis Rex speaker and for several days now.... I have to say it is great! I repeat Great! Those ice picky highs and loud blare-out notes and too much base sound at times is gone. Has better tone control now for me with more manageable and better(less) bass tone from my neck pickup that I couldn't seem to tweak out before.

To me, I have a much improved overall sound now along with my current JJ 6V6 tubes and JJ ECC81 in V1 and ECC83 Pre amp tubes. ECC83 in V1 is fine also. I havn't re-tried my JJ 6L6's yet but believe they will sound fine also when I want the additional volumn from this amp.

The C-Rex speaker immediatly gave a more defined clearer and tighter sound to my liking. Drive 1 and 2 sound better also. I am very pleased with this speaker and from what I have read it should improve even more after some additional break-in time.

So far, I couldn't be happier and can't see how any other speaker choice would make this amp sound any better. Would highly recommend you try it yourself to see if it fits your ear.
