Eminence

Loud and bright American tone.

The Eminence Patriot Screamin' Eagle 12" Guitar Speaker is a great club speaker for American blues and rock. Clear, articulate tone with screamin' top end and tight bass response. Perfect for a one, 2, or 4x12" open- or closed-back speaker cab. 50 RMS handling. 8 or 16 ohm impedance.

Eminence recommends the Screamin' Eagle for the Marshall MG412 cabinet, as a replacement for the Marshall MG 412, Fender FM 412 (16 Ohm) cabinets, and the Marshall MG50DFX & MG250DFX combo amplifiers. The Eminence Texas Heat 12" speaker is recommended as an alternate replacement to the above mentioned components.

Comments about Eminence Patriot Screamin' Eagle 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I replaced the speaker in my 50 Kustom Defender with a used Screaming Eagle I purchased locally and I'm quite satisfied with the tone and clarity compared to the original(which seemed to be damaged) I realized why Kustom discontinued the master volume by-pass switch, if you switch from master to by-pass without lowering the pre-amp volume the power section of the amp is full volume, it can not only damage the speaker but will scare the bejeezus out of ya! I too noticed MF describes this as a 75w speaker but mine is labeled 50w @ 8 ohms?

      Terrible name for this speaker....

Comments about Eminence Patriot Screamin' Eagle 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

Screamin' Eagle? The name alone kept me away from this speaker for a long time visualizing an ice pick into my brain. Until I read a review in Tonequest and saw some decent clips on YouTube. I think most of us would agree that the shriek of an eagle is not considered very musical. Even the description on the Eminence website is totally off. In fact, this speaker has nice highs but very sweet. To my ears, it is a Texas Heat with tighter (but full) low end, more controlled mids - less honk, and a little more frosting on top. Perfect for me!! I highly recommend this especially if you're into nice clean chording. It also sounds great with distortion. Not as menacing as the Governor of course, but you also get the great cleans which make up for it. Nice job on the speaker Eminence - bad job on the marketing!!

      Replacement for Fender The Twin

      By fergusmccool

Comments about Eminence Patriot Screamin' Eagle 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I put one of these in today to replace a blown speaker in my 80s red knob The Twin. I'm still waiting on another speaker to replace the other, that I ordered online. I fated the features as "average" cos really, how many features does a speaker have. Obviously, the speaker is not broken in yet, but I tried this speaker and tried it with the other speaker still in the cab. The original speaker was quite a bit brighter and louder. I also mic'ed the new speaker with a Shure 57 and condenser mic to see how it sounded alone. Just sitting in from of the cab, I could tell the eagle was spongier and more midrange-y, and as I said, not nearly as bright as the original "special Fender" original speaker. I switched from my hollowbody with the P90s though to my Gretsch Duo Jet and it got much brighter, of course. More than bright enough. But still it wasn't as bright as the old speaker. I'm fine with this for now, as I have a brighter speaker en route. Well, mic'ed, it is much brighter sounding, and not as spongey. I can't say I love the sound of the speaker yet, but can't say it is not good either. I'm hoping the Red Coat Red Fang alnico that comes, rounds out the sound of the amp with more brightness. Meanwhile, this speaker is pleasant in the midrange so far, but not really shimmery in the 2.5kHz area that I love for that glassy ring. I may write a follow up review after this speaker is broken in. This speaker is only like 75 bucks though, so I gave it a good value rating. Oh one last thing, most places I looked including here, lists the power rating as 75 watts. I saw there is a Screamin' Eagle 16 somewhere listed as 50 watts, which was what I was actually looking for. Well, where in Eminence's catalog, the regular Screamin' Eagle is the only Eagle listed, and at 50 watts, so I expect Musician's friend has this listed as incorrect. It also has the Red Coat listed as 30 watts, but is currently only available at 50.

      Screamin Eagle

      By Jamietron

Comments about Eminence Patriot Screamin' Eagle 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I just put one of these in my "gold glow" ampeg J-12 from the 60's to replace the almost 50 year old Jensen. The Eminence sounds great, gives it a lot more headroom, more volume from the 15 tube watts and a clearer bigger sound. The only reason I didn't give it 5 for quality is the lining on the back rim of the speaker was coming unglued when I opened the box, but this doesn't do anything that I'm aware of. No EQ on the J-12, just volume tone and tremolo, but with this speaker it doesn't even need it. Sounds way more full, deep and clear than the original speaker. I'd recommend this for someone looking to replace an old or stock speaker.
