The Governor!

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I HATED the sound of the Sheffield speaker that came with the 6505+112 Combo! I put in the Governor and it is now the best sounding amp I've EVER owned (I've had quite a few over the years).

The Governor makes the amp sound/feel very 'tight' and way more balanced (leads 'jump out'), as opposed to the Sheffield which was fizzy sounding and shrill to my ears (and lacked tightness). The Governor has a fast attack and lets you 'feel' the notes on your fingertips - totally in your control.

I bought the Governor and the Wizard and tried them both in 2 amps - the 6505+ 112 and the Blackstar HT Club 40. Each speaker sounded great in one amp and bad in the other!

I did NOT like the Governor in my Blackstar though...I guess it kinda made it sound 'British' all the time (defeating the ISF Control) - but I also did NOT like the Wizard in the 6505+....it sounded 'ok', but the Governor just sounded 'superior' in it...it's not just that they have a different EQ curve in the speakers, but they both have a different sounding "character" to them.

These are MY ears...to each his own.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND:

The Governor = 6505+ 112 Combo
The Wizard = Blackstar HT Club 40

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I bought this speaker because I was looking at replacing some generic Celestion speakers in my Randall 2x12. This speak is build to last… heavy duty, strong, and durable. The more I have been playing it the better is sounds.

I'm all about getting my money out of something when I buy it. I have heard more expensive speakers that don't even compare to the Eminence Governor. I have recommended this speaker to friends and I stand by my decision.

This is not a speaker that "sounds good for the price", this is a speaker that is awesome without spending an absurd amount of money.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I bought this speaker for the sole purpose of using it alongside my (also Eminence) Man O' War speaker in my Marshall JCM 900 4102 combo, as I hear they were very complimentary together. This particular Marshall seems to be capable of easily achieving a piercing, not-so-nice amount of highs, so I was looking to reel that in from the original Celestion G12T-75 spkrs it came with. Yep, they sound extremely purty together in this amp. Being that I only can speak for how they sound in my amp, I guess it depends on what you're after. Rest assured though, that they sound very good in a Marshall, and are generally voiced to match up well with British amps.

Again, I used one alongside my Man O War, and got the sound I was looking for. The speakers can handle a lot of gain, and sound pretty good clean also. When clean they cut a little of the 'sparkly' high out. Tonally, these are strong in the lower and low-mid area, which made them such a great pairing for the Man O War. I could rave more, but you get the idea I hope. I play everything from Alice in Chains, the Beatles, to Metallica - these speakers can handle them all. I am EXTREMELY satisfied.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

Saw some recommendations for this speaker as a replacement for the stock speaker in a Peavey 6505+ combo. Having made the swap, I'd have to agree. Clean tones sound good, but more importantly for type of music we play (Opeth, Megadeth, Maiden, etc.), it makes a good, tight and punchy match for the 6505's high gain distortion.

Vintage Peavey Bandit 65 is considered among the all time best tube-like solid state amps and by replacing the stock Scorpion with The Governor is sounds even more like an amp with EL84 power tubes.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I just bought a pair of these to throw an x-pattern in a 5150 cab. They are awesome straight out of the box, during the break in period. Added some low end thump and lost a lot of that harsh mid fizz that I had with my stock sheffields. Waited a long time to pull the trigger on these speakers. Wishing I did it a lot sooner!

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

Excellent speaker... i play mostly Classic Rock, Rock, and Heavey Rock. I built a closed back 2x12 cab and paired the Governor with a Wizard. I think the two complement each other very well, where one lacks the other compensates. I play thru two amps... a Peavey Vypyr tube 60 (which i converted into a head) and an Orange Jim Root Terror. These speakers are very loud and the closed back cab i have produces excellent bass response... highly recomend using a closed back design for this speaker.

These speakers are awesome! Ordered these to replace the stock celestions in my Marshall 1960A Cab. These speakers added alot more clarity with a much tighter response. Excellent mid range if you like sustain and using feedback. Sound slightly harsh when first put in but after a day or two of playing these sound so good. Definitely a good way to upgrade your amp. I recommend these.

I have a Peavey 112 Valve King and hated the harsh tones. This speaker fixed the problem and added a nice deep warmth. My Les Paul screams thru this amp now where before....it was shrill.
                A really great upgrade.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

Second Review. Bought a new Carvin Nomad 50 watt tube amp with a Celestion Vintage 30 about 2 months ago. The V30 sounded harsh especially with single coils. I hooked up my Governor from another cabinet and big difference. The Governor was much smoother in the high end but still had that "classic British sound" especially with my '72 Les Paul Custom. I ordered an Eminence Legend to put in the amp as it is a 50 watt speaker. I'm going to take the Governor out of one of my 2x12 cabs and put it in one of my 1x12 cabs and run it with the Legend. Hands down, I would pick the Governor over the V30 especially if you are using an amp with a 100 watt output.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

The Governor is the Eminence version of the The "China-lestion Not-So-Vintage Icepick 30".I don't have mine yet, but I have friends who prefer their Eminence over their Celestions and these look very promising. I plan to fill half my cab with them. Here are some reviews I've read on other sites that sum this speaker up nicely:"Eminence Governor is a warmer, browner V30-like speaker, and what it lacks in bite, it recovers in warmth.""Eminence uses a higher quality basket than Celestion, you can rap on a Celestion speaker and it will ring like a bell but the Eminence is dead silent...the way it should be."the Governor delivers the "syrupy smooth break up" that most people seek in the V30, but you need a bit more power to get them there. Also, the Govs are noticably louder than the V30s for the same amount of power.""For clean tones, the Govs are definately a superior speaker to the V30, IMHO. Listen to them side-by-side and you will hear the difference. For clean tones, the Govs have lots of depth without being shrill, the low end is warm and round sounding. . . For distortion, it becomes largely a matter of personal preference, but they are similar. IMHO, I prefer the Govs.""On the website for US Speaker-dot-com, it says simply, "Replaces the Celestion V30". And it does. While the V30 was/is a great speaker, the Governor is greater, IMHO. The Gov was designed to do what the V30 does, but do it better, and it succeeds. It is a very good design."

I paired this with a Wizard last week in my Peavey Valveking 212 and all can say is WOW! My amp totally took to these speakers and now acts like a different amp. The tone is very nice and clear on both the clean and dirty channels; very defined. I play Christian Rock and metal mostly, but the blues sound really nice with just the reverb on the clean channel and my bridge humbucker. I recommend this set up to Valveking 212 owners who aren't happy with the stock speakers. The Governor and The Wizard Rock!

Very Good speaker. I used the Govenor in a wedge monitor because someone else said they used it and it sounded great. Well it does work well in this setting. Just thought I'd try one and I'm glad I did.
Good quality speaker for the money. We'll see how well it holds up in a professional setting with a whole band mic ed and coming through this monitor. It sounds better than the JBL's I have so far but only tested in a limited environment (my garage and an ipod)

I have a Blackstar HT 40 which I love. Reading reviews left me with a sense that I may want to change the stock Celestion 70/80. I chose the Red Coat and cannot believe the difference. Fist off the 70/80 felt like a toy when I removed it. The Eminence was at least 3x heavier, mostly larger magnet.I was so impressed I changed the speaker in my blackstar cabinet to an Eminence also. SO much tighter with more authority. The notes are focused and dont bleed all over. I was so pleased I emailed a letter to the chairman at Eminence, he messaged me back in 20 minutes! For the money the best speaker you can buy for rock, made in America at a really reasonable price. 5 stars easy!

I've been playing about 20 years as a hobby, not at any pro level. I have always dug the V30 sound, but like many others it seems too bright in the upper mids. The Governor seems to fix this. After watching many youtube videos on the Governor/WGS Veteran30/Vintage30 I came across one video that put the Governor 8ohm against the 16ohm and found the 16ohm to be smoother to my ears.
After installing the 16ohm, and a few hours of break in time this speaker just brings out every sound at any volume level. I will be replacing more speakers with this one in the future.

I replaced a celestion speaker,in a open back cabinet that sounded good clean but fizzy with any distortion or overdrive. With the Governor, I just can't say enough about the improvement that it made, and it's not even broke in yet! I can't say how it would sound in your rig, but I'm more than happy with this speaker change.

I replaced the celestion speakers I had in my Laney 4 X 12 cabinets with these speakers and I'm very pleased with the upgrade. I play in a loud Black Sabbath tribute show and these speakers really do the job quite well. The price is good, the construction is very heavy duty, over all a great speaker.

Comments about Eminence Red Coat The Governor 12" 75W Guitar Speaker:

I upgraded to this speaker from a Celestion Greenback that came stock in my VHT Classic 18 combo amp. Right out of the box I could tell that this speaker was much better quality than the Celestion. The Celestion weighs in at a measly 7.8 lbs. This speaker weighs in at 10.7 lbs!! The magnet is nearly twice as big and the cone itself seems thicker and more robust. Even the speaker wires going from the quick connect tab to the cone are braided, where as the Greenback's are rubber coated and seem frail. Don't get me wrong, the Celestion is a good speaker for older tones such as Hendrix and Zeppelin. But if you are looking for something a little more modern with a classic crunch to it, look no further. I will admit, the mids are a little overwhelming at times, but the tonal range and breakup between cords is absolutely beautiful. The lows are nice and boomy with a good thump to them; and the highs are clear as day. My only complaint so far is that the screw holes were a tad small for my amp and didn't line up quite right. I eventually forced it in there with 3 out of 4 scews tight and secure. The 4th one is on, but well...it will probably rattle out eventually with the noise this thing creates. Bottom line is this: if you want a great crunchy tone that is clear and prestine, do yourself a favor and buy this speaker.
