I bought this to try in both a Fender Tweed Deluxe 5E3 close I made, and a Marshall 1974x clone I made.I had been using Eminence Lady Luck and Legend Speakers primarily, with some older Eminence as well.I talked this over with guys I respect who I knew had tried many speakers, built many amps, and found many truths.I took their word on the Wizard, and they and it delivered. My bass is tight... example: a pedal I built had the lows adjusted wrong.. the older eminence actually flapped like a sheet on the clothesline,on 1. The Wizard just gave me a ton more lows than I would have ever wanted, with no complaint. In actual good use, rather than the above abuse, I can only say I'm content! The highs are smoothand bite without ice picks or any shrillness. the mids are full and warm. the lows are tight but THERE.. don't mistake the phrase 'tight lows' for no lows'!The volume boost was noticeable. both amps used one Wizard.. both combos.. both full tube amps, of course, with 18 Watts output.I could run with the 30 to 40 Watt boys using this speaker, no problem. If you are a gigging .. club type road musician. and want full tone and volume and are tired of lugging a big cabinet. ONE of these will do the job.. and make you satisified for holy tone!I will use these in all my builds coming up, for sure.

Pretty thing sounding - medium fullness in mids and bass. As a single speaker in an open back cabinet they are a dissapointment.
priced well
I always have a problem with Eminence Wizards and Celestion GH30 - they are thin sounding.
I bought an Eminence Wizard as they are similar to celestion GH30 but supposedly warmer.
I find the speaker thin and lacking mids and bass. I usually try this speaker in Marshall Amps (DSL401, DSL50, 205H) and ocassionally on Fenders or Fender type amps (Mesa Boogie or B52).

The Wizrad breaks up early so distortion is easy to get (some times to easy). On all my Marshall amps it's pretty thin and lacks punch and breaks up fast and gets fizzy. Replaced the Wizard with an Eminence Texas Heat and what a diffrence - Texas Heat has full mids and great bottom end - everything that the Wizard is missing - my Marshal never sounded better - with the Texas Heat I have tight focussed distortion for leads - great crunch - thick plam muting and cleans are full and rich. I thought my Marshall amp was the problem - It was instead Celestion or Celestion type speakers. Texas Heat has a more British flavor rather than American

On the Plus side the Wizard did work well with my Blackstar amp which has a tight focused distortion that could not over saturate the speaker (the Blackstar+Wizard combo was good but the Marshal+Wizard was dissapointment) - however Wizard still lacks the bottom end of the Texas Heat.

If you have an amp with weak overdrive ot distortion the Wizard will help as it breaks up early - Texas Heat requires pretty strong distortion to get it to sing (i.e. Marshal, Blackstar, Mesa Boogie etc)

Note: the above is regrading a single speaker - a 4X12 cab of Wizards may be better
Good value if it gets the sound you want

Comments about Eminence The Wizard 12" Guitar Speaker:

Replaced the stock MG Celestions in a MG 4x12 cab with 2 Swamp Thangs and 2 Wizards. The sound is fantastic. Rich full tone with nice solid bass and sparkling highs. Running a Carvin V3M amp, the gain channels on the amp are no longer "dirty" sounding, but are more of a tight growly crunch. The clean channel is full and articulate. The volume increase is substantial over the stock speakers. If you are looking for tone, this is a great combination. Highly recomend.

I couldn't find just the right speaker cabinet to match my new Mesa head. I decided to build my own cabs and I paired the Eminence Wizard with the Governor and Wow. I'm discovering new sounds every time I turn it on. This combination puts out some great rich, smooth tone with some great crunch when I want it. I won't ever need another amp.

Comments about Eminence The Wizard 12" Guitar Speaker:

The Wizard has been in and out of amps in the studio for a year or so, and until recently I've exclusively been using small 5-10 watt amps, and the Wizard presented itself loud and bright with the lower wattage. After completing a 55W 6L6-based amp, the Wizard completely shines with more wattage. The low end hits your chest and throat, and breakup in the midrange sounds very sweet. I do not like this speaker in an open-back enclosure, but in a small, sealed enclosure it sings. If you like to crank the master volume, the Wizard is in heaven!

          The Wizard!

          By CCCowboy

          from Lackawanna NY

Comments about Eminence The Wizard 12" Guitar Speaker:

I bought the Wizard and the Governor...tried them in both the 6505+112 and the Blackstar HT Club 40....the Wizard sounded better in the Blackstar (I didn't like the Wizard in the 6505+...the Governor sounds awesome in it though...and I also didn't like the Governor in the Blackstar).

The Wizard brought the Blackstar to life...I thought it sounded ok to begin with, but when I tried it with the Wizard, boy was I wrong! To me, it now has more range (bass/mid/treb) and everything feels/sounds tighter...less fizzy sounding. I can feel the notes on my fingertips!

          I HIGHLY RECOMMEND:

Wizard = Blackstar HT Club 40 Combo
          Governor = 6505+ 112 Combo

          The Wizard Rocks!

Comments about Eminence The Wizard 12" Guitar Speaker:

I just got my Wizard last week along with a Governor and WOW! I installed these two into a Peavey Valveking 212 and was blown away. The muddiness is gone. Clear and defined on the clean channel. The dirty channel just flat out rocks, very clear. I had to use a Boss eq before with the old speakers to clean up the sound, but now I might not need it. I might use it to dial in some different tones, but I'm very impressed with the tone I'm getting now. My amp is totally different now. And to think I was going to get rid of it. No chance of that now. I highly recommend this set up for any Valveking 212 owners.

Comments about Eminence The Wizard 12" Guitar Speaker:

I purchased this speaker due to its db rating at 103db. I needed a loud speaker and this thing delivers. Also, I knew with such a high rating that I would get a cleaner sound with this speaker at high levels. I am using two of these speakers and two "The Governors" in an X patter in a 4 x 12 Carvin V3 top cab powered by a Peavey 5150 Block Letter....Let me just say this sound is MASSSSIVE!!
