OVERVIEW

Ernie Ball Power Slinky Electric Strings are a perfect match for those who like chunky rhythms for rock 'n' roll or for blues. Power Slinky strings have long been favored by Slash, Metallica, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd due to their thicker gauge combination, providing a slightly more powerful tone.

Power Slinky wound strings are made from nickel-plated, steel wire wrapped around a hex-shaped steel core wire. Power Slinky plain strings are made of specially tempered, tin-plated, high-carbon steel, producing a well-balanced tone for your guitar.

All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and the most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance, and long life.

Ernie Ball is a pioneer of rock and roll guitar strings. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Steve Vai, and Slash are among the long list of Slinky players.

Gauges: 11-14-18-28-38-48.

Slinky strings ideal for rock or blues.

The time to realize you should have bought a pile of strings is not when you're onstage. Order now and rest easy.

Normally I hate Ernie Ball strings - they go flat in less than a week, they're too flappy, and they always end up with that twangy sound, which in my case is not preferable. I'm happy to say that these really changed my mind about the brand. I bought these because they came in the same gauge as the flatwounds I use on my other guitar - sometimes you just want that brighter sound. Even after a couple of months of playing they're still sounding good, a little twangy but nothing that a little distortion won't fix for me.

With the 11-48g these are obviously made for drop-tuners. Drop-D is all well and good, but I've used them to drop a guitar's tuning down to B-to-b, and it still sounds great - intonation is still good, they're a little slack but it doesn't buzz, just takes on a neat chorus-y effect.

Pretty much if they can do that and turn your guitar into a whole new animal as a baritone, I'd say they're worth it.

These strings are like a stick of gum. Great at first, but quickly lose their flavor.I used to use Ernie Ball strings always, their price is nice and they do sound great when they're brand new. However I started to notice how quickly I'd have to replace them to keep sounding good, so I decided to try out D'Addario strings as a replacement. I don't like the feel of the webbed strings and the D'addarios were in the same price range as the Ernie Balls. I don't think I've ever broken a string while playing, so this is not a problem for me. The D'addario strings sound the same, but last longer. I find myself changing strings half as frequently since I switched. All in all the Ernie Ball strings are still good if you don't go through strings very often. However I recommend the D'addario if you seem to have problems keeping them sounding new.

I purchase the heavier strings for my Gretsch to get a stronger sound when I play with a small combo I am in. It works pretty good. No for bending,, they are kinda old school which I like. I switch back and forth between the .10 .

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings have good tone and hold tuning on my Strat, but are stiff and require too much pressure to chord. I have carpal tunnel syndrome and my grip is weak so I guess I'll have to go back to ultra lights.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

            A heavy, lifeless string.
I have a tweaked Affinity Strat with Mighty Mite SSS pickups and pots and a blocked trem. I recently bought this inexpensive guitar to re-aquaint myself with an electric - after several years of playing accoustic only. These were recomended in a review I read for the pickup set. The sound was described as "really coming alive." I went from a 038/009 Hendrix set to these and they really muddied up the sound. Lost a lot of the Strat "quack". More of a jazz sound. Not for me.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

Ernie Ball's are the only electric strings I use, and this is the set I use for my mostly dirty blues rythmn playing.

Slash says that Ernie Ball's are the strings he ever plays. If They are good enough for the guy who can play whatever he wants to whenever he wants to, I'll take that endorsement to heart.
At that price point you can use and abuse these things forever!

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

I use these strings on all my guitars except for my SG which I have Not Even Slinkys on. I love these for my Strat and Epiphone Casino. I switched to these because Regular Linkys just got too easy for me so I stepped it up and these are perfect. They have a nice fat tone and they are easy to bend. I'm a blues player so I pick pretty hard so I need heavy gauge strings and heavy gauge picks. These fit the bill perfectly. They sound incredible with that Clapton Mid boost circuit.
            They last forever

Excellent Strings at a Great Price

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

Bottom line: Ernie Ball is the way to go. I use Power Slinkys for guitars tuned "2 steps down", Regular Slinkys for "Drop C" and "1 1/2 Steps down", Super Slinkys for "Drop D" and "Standard"
many of the strings I've tried felt rough, but to me Ernie Ball Strings feel smooth like coated strings.
I've been using them for 7 years and I have never broken a string while playing.
Love the price, if I went to a local store I would be paying a few dollars more + gas money
