Unique and FAT tone!
I'm currently playing an '89 Fender HM Strat. I changed the neck pickup to a SD Hot Rails and the bridge PU to a SD 59 Trembucker (a cleaner PAF type tone).
I'm currently playing an '89 Fender HM Strat. I changed the neck pickup to a SD Hot Rails and the bridge PU to a SD 59 Trembucker (a cleaner PAF type tone).
I have tried alot of different brand sof strings on my HM (and all my past Gibsons and regular Strat) and even have local guitarists from time to time give me sets to try!) but I always come back to my EBs right away for one reason: TONE! Fat, yet bright. I agree with some of the other reviewers who say they wear out quickly and also agree with the one reviewer who say guitarists like Page, Clapton, etc. probably have their strings changed every gig. I play a couple times a month and after about the 2nd or 3rd gig I can hear the tonal change and can also see fret indentations on the strings, both signs which tell me it's time to change the baby's diaper( I never said I liked changing strings either!) I'll kick up the gain knob on the amp if I haven't chnged them by the time I should have.
I play with a very aggressive picking style and use these hard and little teardrop jazz picks and the last string I broke was in 2003! I also use my whammy bar alot when playing and never have tuning problems, as long as I've stretched out my new set of EBs when changing them. Tone can be such an elusive thing, but it's also a very personal thing. EB Regular Slinky's have helped me achieve mine for decades now. Thanks a million, Ernie Ball!

When I saw these advertised, I thought I was getting a deal. Boy was I wrong ! Sure the ads in mags like Guitar World, Guitar Player, etc; advertise these as the best selling strings in the world, or so they say, but I'll be honest here, while they sound great at first, they just do not last long. I bought the 6 pack a little over 2 weeks ago and already, I've gone through 3 sets. I only play for a average of a hour a day with the exception of 3 hours band practice on Saturday afternoons, that's it. You would figure with a brand like Ernie Ball, the quality of these would be much better, but I'm sorry to say that they're not. As soon as I'm done with these, I'm going back to buying a 10 pack of D'Addarios. Sure it may cost more, but at least with them, I know they'll last a long time when I put them on my guitar.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2221 Nickel Regular Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 6 Pack:
Some guys like to splurge on strings. I have been playing for over 40 years. I hate to get hooked on a string that is hard to find. You can find these strings everywhere. I like them a lttle more than D'Addario strings. Not quite as stiff. At any rate, buy these strings and splurge on something else!

Comments about Ernie Ball 2221 Nickel Regular Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 6 Pack:
I've been using these strings for some time and have grown use to the feel and tone . I love the way they sparkle and have a little mid-range bark when new that I haven't found in others strings. Ocasionally I try other strings but always come back to these. The only draw back I can see is they need to be replaced after 15 to 20 hours of playing time to keep that tone. Still the best bang for the buck ..

Comments about Ernie Ball 2221 Nickel Regular Slinky Electric Guitar Strings 6 Pack:
As a somewhat heavy handed novice coming from the acoustic world, I tend to press the strings a lot harder than needed on an electric. My electric came with a set of Super Slinky gauge strings, and I was amazed at how easily they would bend, but due to my heavy grip, I kept slipping off the sides of the neck just playing on 1 and 6.
I tried a set of Power Slinkys and they kept me on the neck, but I could barely bend them half a tone before ripping my acoustic calluses off. The Regular Slinkys seem to be a good compromise between bendability and the "training wheels" I need until I develop a lighter touch when playing the electric.
