OVERVIEW

Play like a pro with these revamped classics.

Ernie Ball 2721 Cobalt Regular Slinky Electric Guitar Strings are a new spin on Ernie Ball's best selling set of strings which have been played by the likes of Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Steve Vai and many more. The Cobalt Series is clearly an improvement on its classic nickel-wound counterpart giving the player increased sustain, clarity and output. In addition, they resist sweat and moisture better and have unmatched flexibility when compared to other nickel wound strings. Cobalt is the most magnetically active string alloy on the planet and attracts the magnets in your pickups more than any other string.

"Ernie Ball Cobalt Strings sound and feel better than anything I've ever played! You have to check these out!" - Slash.
"Cobalt Strings feel incredibly silky under my fingers and deliver more punch, output, and clarity than normal strings!" - John Petrucci.

All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and the most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance and long life. Made in the USA.

Actually I am somewhere between Novice and Experienced. I had been using a variety of strings and was okay with a couple of brands. But then I tried these and I was surprised at the sustain these gems had compared to the name brand strings I had been using. I love them. IF there are others I want to know, but these have sustain and clarity I hadn't been getting until now. Just wow.

I've been a D'Addario user for the last 10 years; however, I was curious about the new Cobalt strings introduced by EB, because no other string manufacture ever marketed strings made from this metal. When these new EB Cobalt strings were placed on my Fender Highway 1 HSS Strat, I noticed the guitar had much greater dynamics, volume, sustain and tone compared to the regular D'Addario 10-46 used in the past. Even when strumming the electric unplugged, you can definitely feel the energy of the sustain, and hear the dynamics of the individual notes clearly. These traits were also experienced with the guitar being amplified clean and dirty. Because of the strings clearity, you will hear all the nuiances of your playing. So if you play sloppily now, you hear that with these strings. But over time, your playing can become much more precise. As for feel, there seemed to be more drag when sliding. It wasn't as smooth as the D'Addarios. After 3 hours of playing, my fingertips were more chewed-up than playing with the DA's made from nickle. With that said, I also noticed that my guitar frets started to wear down quicker over the last year. Perhaps Cobalt is a harder element than Nickle??? As far as durabily is concerned... the plain strings started to tarnish after about 2 weeks, but tuning, tone, sustain, dynamics and volume were maintained. After about a year, I switched back to DA's because of the fret wear and draggy feel. I will try these on my guitars with stainless steel frets, but will not put them on my regular nickle alloy fretted guitars.

If EB can make these strings with less drag on my fingers, less wear on my frets and ant-tarnish, then that would more justify the price. Till then... I'm going back to D'Addarios.

I got a few packs of these over a week ago at my local music store because they were the only 10s they had so I figured I'd give them a shot. Every set I tried sounded like a set I'd used for 10 years they were so dull! The wound strings felt like rusty barbed wire under my fingers and the plain strings felt really raw and sharp like they were cutting my fingers. With no other choice I had to use these strings for 3 gigs. I will NEVER use these strings again!!

I've been using Erine Ball Regular Slinky Nickel strings for 20 years and love them. I recently wanted to try the new cobalt strings on my Les Paul. The first set I used at home and at a few indoor gigs and was pretty happy. They weren't as bright as Regular Slinky's, but that was what I was going for with my Bluesy Mid rangy tone. I put a second set of cobalts on my les paul and played an outdoor gig in the summer time in MN and was so disapointed at how fast these cobalt strings corroded in the humidity. They were dead in one day of playing outside.... Sorry but I won't be buying cobalts anymore. Nickel forever!

Comments about Ernie Ball 2721 Cobalt Regular Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

These are some great sounding strings. For years I have used the Markley Blue Steel. Those are great stings as well. But these Slinkys have a louder sound and a much better tone. Also, they seem to stay in tune very well. I am using them on my Godin SD and I believe these strings gave that guitar a whole new tone and feel. I do a lot of bending and I pick with a Dunlop Jazz3. They have held up very well. I am really glad I tried them. Now I am hooked on them big time.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2721 Cobalt Regular Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings are great. I think the clear tone and increased output is what attracts me. I have not had problems with the strings breaking, like other people have commented. I don't do a lot of bending, just a little.

While they do cost more, it is worth it to get one set and put it on your favorite guitar. Then you can form your own opinion.

Ever since I strung these on my guitar I was sure I'd be using these again- I was right. I'm not saying these strings are better than every string out there, but these are what I'm going to use.

I use these on a few guitars with overwound pickups to pull down the middle and extend the highs and lows just a little. Very smooth and musical, not as harsh as stainless steel. I use the EB 2221 on most of my electrics, and the EB 2251 on maple neck Teles and Strats.
