Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

I am very particular when it comes to my five string bass strings, much more so than with four string sets. I often find that most five string sets have a boomy low-B but a thin sounding G or sometimes the E through G sound fine but the B is weaker by comparison. In other words, the string-to-string balance is very poor.

These strings however, are the most balanced I have heard. I get a pretty equivalent bass response from the B all the way to the G. This is because the B is a 135 which gives plenty of bass and enough tension not to get floppy and the D and G strings are a 70/50, respectively. This is like having a heavy gauge high-end and a medium gauge low-end. This offers the perfect balance of tensions/bass response that I have found in any strings I have tried to date.

These strings also seem to last a fairly long time. I can easily go months without changing and not notice a huge drop-off in my tone. One drawback to these strings is that because the gauges/tensions are a little higher than normal for the D/G, it can put some extra strain on your fingers during longer sessions of play. However, you tend to get used to it after a while. Also they are pretty cheap for a heavier gauge five-string set.

I refuse to use any other strings on my fiver (25th Anniversary Music Man HH). If you're interested in even bass response from string to string and from end to end on the fretboard, then check these out.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

I needed new strings when I got my 6 string bass because the ones on there were just nasty. I knew I wanted round wound strings that had quite a beefy B string and these did the trick. I am faithful to Ernie Ball when it comes to guitars and I already had the 4 string set of Power Slinky's on my other bass and they did wonders for me. I tune down to GCGCFA# which is drop C with a low G to match the C. These strings give plenty of punch. I use them for everything from crazy shredding and riffage to regular, smooth finger style and slap. The only thing I wish was different was instead of having a 105, having a 110 just like the 4 string set because it's a bit unbalanced going from only 105 to a huge 135 plus a 110 is perfect for drop C. I was told that these strings wear out but that was from a pick players point of view who only uses the bottom two strings anyway. I've played several gigs and practiced non stop and they are still like new. I put lots of sweat and time on these strings and they are still great. I've had them on my bass since August and they aren't beginning to be worn out. Ernie Ball's are great bass and guitar strings. Definitely get these strings. Even though I play in drop G essentially, these work very well for standard tuning as well.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

I play a 5 string bass and haven't liked the rubbery feel of medium gauge B and E strings. These strings don't have that and sound fantastic. I was sceptical going to such a heavey gauge string, but no more. These are great. The .135 and .105 gauge are just right.
Excellent value.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

I bought these strings because I like to play with a low action, and most string sets aren't able to keep enough tension on the B-string to prevent fret buzz. The Power Slinkies did the trick!

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

Got these in the mail, and to my surprise, the low B doesn't fit in the hole in the bottom of the bridge! Don't know if this is normal or not, but Musician's friend was good though. Sent out some new ones free of charge. That's why I order from these guys!

Exchanged for some Ernie Ball "Super Slinky's". The Low B was a very tight fit, but it made it through!

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

I use these on a Yamaha BB405 bass. I had never used guages this heavy before, but the pickups on the bass are not the greatest, and going to the heavier strings noticeably beefed up the sound, particularly on the higher strings.
I've been using Ernie Ball strings on all my guitars and basses for well over 30 years, and I've never been disappointed.
Find a deal on these (I got a two pack), stock up, and add some life to your low end pickups!

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

Got these for my Rogue 5-string, since the factory strings on it were dead in no-time. Needed something with higher tension too, these seemed to do the trick. I tune to (low to high) C#-F#-B-E-G#, and these seem to have a nice tension to it. no fret buzz anymore either, no dead notes, love it.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

Ernie Ball strings are the best. With the 135 string, I have been able to down-tune to a low G. They also last long (about 4 months). I like to slap alot and to this date I have never broke a string. I think Ernie Ball strings are a great value.

These dominate every other string out there, can't say a single bad thing about them. Perfect for tuning down a full step (or lower, I sent the 135 down to G and it still sings). Powerful, clear tones and extremely long life. Worth every penny; Ernie Ball comes out on top again.Turn your tone into an inescapable force!

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

I just got these strings and i love them. I did get thicker strings then these, but I automatically fell in love with them. Timmy-C (RATM) is a huge influence on me and I am finally getting his tone. They pack such a punch and i have not even broke them in! They are the best out there. They destroy my old Carvin strings.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2821 Power Slinky 5-String Bass Strings:

I use the ernie ball super slinky (pink package) on my four string basses and used the similar 5 string pack on my 5 string before which I love those but as soon as these were on my five string I could hear a difference in the low b string. These strings have nice tension, they resonate, they have nice tone, and they can sound loud! Guitarists that I jam with are blown away by my basse's tone and I think it's because of these strings. They even made these comments when the strings were old! They last a long time, I just noticed that they need to be changed, and the last time I changed them was last august a year ago (oops!) I have recorded with the strings, practiced a decent amount, goofed off, jammed with them, and played shows with them. They do take a while to get used to and if you practice excessively you may start getting callouses on both hands from low b string but once you are used to them, they are worth it! For bassists these strings are perfect but if you are a guitarist switching to bass you may want thinner strings (guitar friends have said they feel like they are plucking crayons lol) One review said they sound "tinky" when you first put them on, this happens with most strings you can reduce this by stretching the strings when putting them on moving tuning pegs back and forth while tightening the strings, I usually have this noise for only the first few minutes of playing after a change. Great strings, highly recommend but really you can't go wrong with ernie ball for bass!

These strings are great, but when you first get them they sound like tin, that?s all I can call it. After a couple days you will never regret your buy, they are very tight and give plenty of sound. I have had mine on for a few months and they are still great. They still hit the harmonics very well. They will not leave you with a dead sound. Give them a chance and you will be hooked.
