I have used these on my custom Maccaferri hollow body bass with a 30" Danelectro neck and they are perfect. I have no idea why others have said these aren't good for a 30" (short scale) bass. Maybe they stuck the high "E" on the "G" post or something, etc. I'm going to use a set on a Fender Bass VI. The price is incredible and they don't chew up your frets like some round wounds. There is really nothing else like these at any price.

I generally disregard negative reviews because nine times out of ten the reviewer is either biased or angry. That being said, I read the good and the bad, but decided to take the gamble as the set of strings was inexpensive. I lost. I bought these for my Squire MBVI. The low E and A are long enough (44.5"), but the 90 gauge is not thick enough to solve the floppy string issue the stock MBVI strings are known for. The rest of the strings were to short. The high E was only 39 3/8" long, you need at least 41" just to reach the tuning peg, not to mention another inch or two for the wrap around. I'm curious to know why some people say they fit the bass VI. Kalium Strings designs sets specifically for the MBVI. They suggest the 102s. You have been warned.

NOT made for 4-string basses

Comments about Ernie Ball 2837 Slinky Silhouette Short-Scale 6-String Bass Strings:

These are great. They are NOT made for short scale 4-strings like the Mustang/Bronco etc. They are made for the Fender Bass VI, Fender Sub-Sonic, and the like. If you use them for this purpose, they'll be great. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed like the other reviewers. I use them on my Sub-Sonic, and I have wonderful luck and tone with them. I repeat, these are NOT made for a regular bass, but for a baritone guitar to be used as a 6-string bass.

Still retaining tone but MUCH more deep and moody

By Travis Lucas

Comments about Ernie Ball 2837 Slinky Silhouette Short-Scale 6-String Bass Strings:

If you own a Fender Bass VI or custom shop version I suppose the price of your strings is no big deal, but these are seriously THE best option.
Now I'm going to go play my 1963 Dano VI, which would also be a great purchase with these awesome strings for anyone reading.
I am so pleased with this company and these strings. They will make your fingers feel so manly.
I own a Danelectro 63 baritone and was afraid the tuning pegs wouldn't accept the low A and E gauges. To my suprise, Ernie ball had the brilliant idea to slim down the winding at the place where you insert the string into the peg.
This makes it easy to install on any size tuning peg hole, even your child's mini strat guitar if you wanted!
It's Ernie Ball, the tone on these things are great. Great feel too, I find it easy to still play fast runs without my fingers getting uncomfortable from the monster gauges (then again, maybe that's my Dick Dale 11-63 gauge on a 25.5' Strat mindset talking).
The tone of these low strings combined with the lipsticks on my Dano makes the lowest, moodiest, darkest yet still twangiest tone I have ever heard.

You want bass VI tones, tic tac bass, Duane Eddy, moody Mogwai, or spaghetti western gunfight music? But still playability? Here you go!
These were suprisingly cheap. I was afraid that turning my Dano into a bass VI instrument was going to not only be hard due to tuning peg hole size, but also not finding the right gauges to not be too floppy or too tight to be able to be comfortable. Also if I messed up trying to get the right set I could either be out:
$30 for bass strings and buying a whole pack of guitar strings just for the high B and E.
$35 for Da'Darrio XL bass VI strings
or $45 for LaBella VI strings.

Nope! Under ten dollars for the perfect fitting strings.
Ernie Ball knows their stuff when it comes to gauges and fit.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2837 Slinky Silhouette Short-Scale 6-String Bass Strings:

I like ernie ball strings - they are my string of choice on all my guitars. So seeing a pack called 6StringBass Guitar you'd think they would fit the most common 30" scale 6 string bass around - the Fender BassVi. They don't. the 90 and the 74 fit ok and you don't have to trim the strings but the 54 and smaller either don't reach or don't have enough string to grip. Seriously bad product - it does not do what it says on the packet.

Probably okay strings but too short

        By NoRemorse73

        from Culbertson, MT

Comments about Ernie Ball 2837 Slinky Silhouette Short-Scale 6-String Bass Strings:

I bought these strings to replace the ones that were on my Fender Mustang bass that I got from my uncle. I had done all the measurements to make sure it was a short-scale bass. But when I got the strings the thinner strings were too short and they didn't fit my bass. I'm sure these strings would be fine if they fit, but it iritates me that they didn't take into consideration that some bass's headstocks are longer than others and therefore didn't make the strings long enough.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2837 Slinky Silhouette Short-Scale 6-String Bass Strings:

These are great strings. I did have problems with my G string not being long enough for my Squier Bronco, but that was expected as these strings were made for a certain model of guitar. I just used the first three gauges for my EDG (I left my Fender short scale string on for my G) and they sound great. They have a great tone and compliment the high output single coil.

Have a short scale bass, needed lighter gauge strings with shorter length to fit it correctly. These sound great and were easier to install as I didn't have to cut off long lengths of string to fit my short scale bass.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2837 Slinky Silhouette Short-Scale 6-String Bass Strings:

Nice responsive set, good tones. I prefer flatwounds but ridiculously hard to find for my Schechter Hellcat VI. I swapped the "A" string (.074) to the "E" position and added in it's place a (.064) as the Hellcat bridge has a way too tight bore and I want more comfortable playability. I am first a guitar player, then a bass player so making it feel like a down-tuned guitar more comfortable for me. Sounds good, plays fine, just wish either Ernie Ball or D'Addario would make a light guage flatwound set for these Fender Bass VI style axes.
