OVERVIEW

See what Slash, Jimmy Page, and Eric Clapton are raving about.

Ernie Ball Coated Slinky electric guitar strings combine the latest technological advancements in string manufacturing. All wound strings are treated with a micro-thin layer of enamel that prevents decay and corrosion up to five times more than uncoated sets. In addition to treating the wound strings, each plain string features a rust-resistant plating along with a patented reinforcement winding of titanium wire. Titanium's inherent strength prevents string breakage, string slippage, and is proven to keep your guitar strings in tune better than conventional plain strings. Ernie Ball Coated Slinky guitar strings maintain the feel and sound of uncoated sets, combining the added protection with the vibrant tone Ernie Ball musicians have relied on for over 50 years.

All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and the most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance, and long life.

Ernie Ball is a pioneer of rock and roll guitar strings. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Steve Vai, and Slash are among the long list of Slinky players.

Gauges: 10-13-17-26-36-46.

Tone and feel on these strings is impressive to say the least. I have not had the corrosion problem that others have mentioned, nor have I seen a rapid decline in tension. I did not have to adjust the intonation or any other setup items when I switched from blue steel or from D'Addario EXL110's to these strings so I can use interchangeably and not have to change the setup on the guitar. I practice 2-3 hours daily playing various genre and guitars. I prefer different strings on different guitars depending on what the guitar needs to sound the way I need it to. I use these to brighten things up a bit and are great as all around strings. Made In USA, good quality, and good value have me considering using these more often. In the end it is all about tone! These are really worthy a try.

I do a lot of studio work, and hate restringing my guitar every week. I like ernie ball tone a lot more than elixers, but elixers stay live for.... forever, basically. So i was super stoked to hear about Ernie Ball Coated strings. I finally bought some, and put them on an sg standard, and dug the sound. For two days. These strings went completely dead in under a week under relatively light use. I wipe my guitar necks down after every session to keep them lasting, too. I've had a pair of elixers on my strat that have lasted me 4 months! they don't sound perfect, but they still sound usable. If you are going to be restringing your guitar every week anyways, you might like these. Maybe I got a bad set, but these fell very far under my expectations. At the least, I don't think these are worth the extra money over their non-coated ernie ball counterparts.

    Are these even coated?

Comments about Ernie Ball 3121 Coated Titanium Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

I've used Elixirs for a while and though i'd switch it up so I bought 3 sets of these. Color me disappointed. These rust JUST as fast as non-coated strings. I replaced them 3 days ago, playing maybe an hour or 2 a day, and they are already dark and dead.

If you're getting coated strings, stick with Elixirs.

A fair review: Slinky VS Elixir.

Comments about Ernie Ball 3121 Coated Titanium Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

These are great strings. I won't rave about them simply because I'm still more impressed by elixers.
These are the second best set of strings ive ever tried. I have been using elixir since they came out in 2005-ish, but i keep an open mind and always try new thing. Tonally, the slinkies have SLIGHTLY more noticeable bite to them. This is probably because the elixirs are coated which might dull down the sound by that little. However, the main weakness of the slinkies is that the tension dies down VERY QUICKLY (less than a month), whereas that does not happen as fast with elixirs. When the tension starts dying, your intonation goes out of whack, and you're always playing out of tune no matter how much you adjust the tuning or intonation itself.Your only remaining option is to replace the string, which defeats the purpose of anti-rusting and long life strings. The tension has a much longer life on the elixir strings which is why they remain my favorite so far. Mechanically and physically, elixirs are closer to an "ideal string," despite the Slinky's slight tonal improvement.
It lives up to its anti-rust claims, but like i mentioned, they dont have a "long life" since the tension fades quickly. However, none of the strings broke and i do play a lot of downstroke thrash metal rhythm which is very abusive to the strings.
Acceptable--You get what you pay for, I never use cheap strings. (Like i said, elixers for years now)

No strings last forever - neither do these. but I love the feel & tone over the Blue steels that I'd been playing for quite awhile. These are now my go-to string on both my PRS Custom 24 & Strat. If you want your sound to remain true, change your strings regularly. I won't pay what Elixirs cost because I'm going to change mine regularly anyway. These strings fit the bill for me, whether practicing or gigging.

      Disappointed!!

Comments about Ernie Ball 3121 Coated Titanium Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

I'm a long time EB users and have used Elixirs coated. My hands do sweat more than the average person, that's why I use coated strings so I don't have to change strings that often. I bought 10 packs of the 3121 coated strings. I must tell you that after just a couple hours of playing, the plain strings started to discolor and wear out unevenly which make it hard to slide the finger on the stings. I wipe the strings down every time but after just one day those stings are down to the dark metal, no shinny at all. Thinking that it must be a bad set, I replaced with another set, same thing. I'm on the 3rd set now in a week so I don't think these work for me at all. Just for comparison, the Elixirs do last a long time.

Comments about Ernie Ball 3121 Coated Titanium Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

Ernie Ball, I am happy with these strings. They're a great set of stings for my Les Paul and for the amount of time I play. They're very durable, don't corrode very easily, and what do you expect, they're Ernie Ball Slinkies.... They kick butt! I highly suggest this set of strings.

These strings have lasted me 3 months, and still sound brand new, even though I play 1-2 hours every day. I used to use the Elixirs, but my guitar tech recommended me these, and have used them since. They just sound, and feel better, than Elixirs. I can do very large bends with these on the high strings and not worry about them breaking and blinding me. I plan on using these with every guitar I can.

Comments about Ernie Ball 3121 Coated Titanium Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

Being a die hard elixir user, I find these strings quite warmer sounding, kinda like an "old school" sound you get with pure nickel. however, they feel quite comfortable to those who want a longer lasting string, without the feel of coated. But I yearned for the bright sound of my elixir nanowebs, I only had a set of these on for a week before switching back to my elixirs. I tried testing the strength of these strings, didn't break at all.Try them, you have nothing to lose. they're cheaper than elixirs, and cheaper than cleartones, but strings are personal taste. These strings feel too much like Cleartone strings and sound, without the higher price tag of Cleartone. Not bright enough for me, but solid, even for a week I noticed more tone loss than I would with elixir nanowebs.

          my new favorite strings

Comments about Ernie Ball 3121 Coated Titanium Slinky Electric Guitar Strings:

I have been an extremely diehard dadario fan for the majority of my playing career and until now had no convincing reason to change but with the economy the way it is and the rate I normally go through strings (about a pack a week on my main guitar) I decided I needed to give coated strings another shot. compared to my normal XL's these strings retain the majority of the sonic character of a nickel-steel string albiet with a touch less high end response. feel wise there is almost a wet feel to the coated plain strings that takes a little getting used too but most players won't find it a problem. now as far as string life goes I have played our last 4 gigs with the same set of strings and inumerable hours of practice in short the string life is vastly improved and obviously I haven't broken any yet although my guitar has all graphite parts so I rarely break strings anyway. I would reccomend these over other coated strings for a few reasons mostly the fact that the coating doesn't fray on the wound strings and the entire set is coated vs the bass strings only a'la Elixer not too mention the titanium solder on the wrap gives me added piece of mind and does seem to positivley effect stability somewhat with trem use

Tried these and they lasted 6 shows (weekend warrior style) and all the practices in between before they lost their newness. He didn't break one, had to cut them off when it was time to change. TRY THEM

These strings sound good but don't last as long as they should. I have about 8 hours on the new set and they are already starting to fade some toward the first few frets. The regular uncoated strings last longer in my opinion. But, they have a really great tone. I'm playing on an LTD Ec 1000 deluxe with the Seymour Duncan pickups and an Engl Powerball head.
