Comments about Evans Drill Bit Drum Key:

Somewhere on your set is a tensioner that is in a tight place that a drum key doesn't operate very well. Just stick this on any extension ratchet handle, and you can now get to those hard to reach spots. Oh yeah, it works well for rapid tensioner removal as other reviewers have already said.

        • Changing Drum Heads

Comments about Evans Drill Bit Drum Key:

This tool gets you past the slow task of using a drum key and allows you change drums heads quickly. With the cloud of having to use a drum key, I used to say..."I'll change that drum head another day." That's no longer the case. My band students take themselves and what they do more seriously when they see our percussion equipment well maintained.

        In one way.

Comments about Evans Drill Bit Drum Key:

This is a clever idea. BUT, I would only use it for fast drum head changing when loosening the lugs. If you use this on a drill tightening a drum, you can't tune it right, and you'll most likely strip the bolt and lug.

Seems like most of the other reviewers agree...use this tool for removing the heads only. I would recommend using the Evans Torque Key for replacing them.

Comments about Evans Drill Bit Drum Key:

I agree with the other comments that this is a good option for removing heads. If you ARE using a drill to take the bulk of the slack out of your tension rods when installing them (not necessarily for tuning), make sure to start the threads first by hand and then be careful to make sure nothing is cross threaded before you pull the trigger or you could hose the threads on the lug and rod in record time. It's definitely handy to have in your drum key collection. My problem is that I forget I have it until I'm halfway through a head change, or my drill is too far away to get to. No fault of the key though. But I agree again with the other reviews, it can cut your head removal time down considerably when swapping one out.

Comments about Evans Drill Bit Drum Key:

This will cut your head changing time in half! I wouldn't recommend using it to tighten your heads, but for removing them quickly, you can't find a better tool to use. I had all of the heads removed from my 7-piece (top and bottom) in under 5 minutes, ready to have the new heads put on. It's cheap, too! Now all you gotta do is go buy a drill.
