I tried these new EC2 heads at the EVANS booth during the 2006 NAMM Show. I have used EVANS Hydraulics in the past. But I did not want that particular "dead" sound on my kit. When I tried the new EC2 heads on their kit, I was amazed at the "FAT" full bodied sound they projected without any extra tape or moongel. I ordered a set of these heads for my large studio kit. They sound fantastic on the high end 8" tom and equally wonderful on the 18" floor tom (and all toms in between). I use single ply bottom heads tuned slightly lower than the top. If you want a fat round sound that is full...these are the heads for you. If you like that annoying "boing-boing" ringing overtone...then buy something else. There is still a lot of action in the rebound of the stick and I have not put any dents into the heads after 4 months of daily use. I play fairly hard, and usually would have a bunch of surface dents by now. The two-ply does not have oil in between, and the ring control is adhered to the underside, not in between the plys. They stay in tune fairly well. I have NOT tried these heads on my snare. If you are not sure....buy one head...try it out...then make your own decision.

I have owned these heads for quite some time. At first, say for the first few months, they are decent. The sound I wanted was a low and somewhat muffled one, which is what the man at the music store told me I would get. They were a new type of head then so I thought , "What the heck, I'll try them." The low and slightly muffled sound was NOT what I got though. I had to tune hi and bright, which was not good for live and mic playing. After about a month, my floor tom cracked on the top head, and I don't tune very tight or play hard at all. I think I'm gonna go to the Vintage Emperor next, a tested and tried and true head, unlike the EC2 which still needs some bugs worked out of it.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I bought these heads recently for my 12 and 16'' toms and they are absolutely Amazing, They Play well live, rehearsel, and in the studio. Im in 2 bands I play drums for 1 one of them but even the drummer for my other band said that he loved the tom heads. They have a perfect low end tone if your tuning low like me and can be perfect for any genre I love these Heads. I Highly Recommend them to any drummer with any level of experience.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I am overall pleased with these heads besides it took for ever to tune them, but once they were tuned they gave me that nice punchy rock sound that I've been looking for. Evans are so much nicer than remo.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

These heads are amazing. They perform much better than remo pinstripes in both high and low tuning ranges! I have a fusion sized kit and tend to tune to the low side. These heads make a fusion kit sound bigger than a standard!

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I have been drumming for over 15 years and I have finally found some great heads. 1 1/2 years ago, I purchased a custom kit from a local store and I have tried numerous brands and styles of heads trying to get the sound I want. I finally bought the EC2's for the toms after liking the reverse dot on my snare. These have to be my favorite heads I have ever played.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

These EC2's are great. I just bought a used drum kit that had these on there. They sound way better than my Aquarian classic clears. They are punchier and still generate good tones from my maple toms. I would recommend these for batters and stay with a single ply like Remo Ambassador or Aquarian Classic Clear on the bottom. Be careful who's advice you take about heads. From my experience most drummers can tune their own instruments. I can tune drums and these will make you happy to be a drummer. The ones that came on my kit are beat up and they still sound great. Cant wait to but some fresh ones.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I finally found a home. I love these heads and never going back. I have two drum set and I getting Evans heads on all of them. I wish they had these years ago. I been Playing drums for 23yrs. These heads don't Kill the sound of the Drum. You still have overtone but when you are playing live you won't even hear it. I have tried taping Cloth, cutting holes, everthing you can think of and can't get the sounds these heads can do.

Best ive played

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

these are the best tom heads around. They take out all overtones, while letting the toms true sound resonate. they have a punchier sound with a little bit less sustain if tuned low, and a less punchy sound with a little bit more sustain if tuned high. They sound great on my birch ddrum kit, im positive they'll sound good on your kit too.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

Well, I have used the evans g1 coated skins that came stock on my Gretsch and it just wasn't the sound I was looking for. They had a warm tone but I was just eager to pound somthing that would shake the paint off the walls... Then one day I saw the ec2's on a kit at Guitar Center and decided to give it a wack or two. Wow, this was the sound I was looking for! I loved how they gave the drums a good tone, focused, but no where near choked up. So I bought 4 tom heads for my fusion set up, and tuned them on my Catalina birch.... yes! The sound was amazing. I got a high, bright attack on my 8 inch tom and an awesome, paint shaking, thunder rumble from my once wimpy floor tom. These heads have a pretty broad tuning range, so you won't be dissapointed in that. Also, they are (to me) perfectly balanced in tone. They gave my birch kit a lower voice, which what I was looking for. I gave it a 8 on quality b/c they dimpled and dented after one day of recording, but that was b/c my drums were angled to much and.. well... I'm a pretty hard hitter. But, overall I was very pleased with them. Evans did a good job. Now, I'll see how long they can take the beating.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I was suprised to find these heads to be cost so cheap, but sound perfect. I was looking for some drum heads to reduce the ring in my toms, and surely these are it. They keep the toms from ringing amd they give it a nice warm sound, something that Remo Pinstripe couldn't give.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I just bought some of these for my set and the way they control the overtones is amazing. I tried a lot of other things with my other heads and couldn't get a softer sound with the same tone. These have done that for me. Sometimes i wouldn't even practice only because of how bad my toms were. Now i can't put my sticks down. These heads are simply amazing!

Evans Has the Midas Touch

By Anonymous

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I have played on a plethora amount of drumheads from diverse drum companies and I can honestly say that Evans has discovered what it takes to make an excellent Drum head. I have an Ayotte maple kit, a Tama Birch kit, A Custom maple kit, a Gretch Birch kit, and I can honestly say that these heads sound great on each kit! I have had the EC2 clears on my custom kit for over a year and they still look and sound wonderful. I was concerned if they would continue to sound as good as they did when I first put them on a year ago and they still sound great! I put the EC2 coated on my Ayotte kit and I used it on the road and in each setting the drums sounded as fat as me and I weigh over 400 pounds. Evans has done it again with these EC2's. Because I like to experiment with different sounds for different settings such as live, studio, outdoor etc. I try different heads such as remo and aquarian but I keep coming back to these Evans EC 2's. I think I have finally found a drum head company that is worthy to be endorsed.

Comments about Evans EC2 Clear Batter Drumhead:

I've tried them all and these are the best. Paired with Evans glass reso heads, they sound awesome. They have great sustain but no ringy overtones. They are durable as well. They price was a little steep when I bought them, but they're worth it.
