I bought a set of these to try out on a Gretsch 5120. (I would normally use D'Addario 11's on it.)The Everly strings sounded more like flatwounds on the Gretsch. All the sparkle and twang was gone, replaced by what I can only describe as a "thunk" sound on the D, A and E strings. Might be good for jazz. Useless for rockabilly, jangly 60's rock, etc. Not for me.

I have been using these strings for several years now after using others such as D'Addario, Ernie Ball, Gibson et al. Hardly ever break one of these and they feel good and sound good.
