Best Uses

Comments about Farley's PocketTones PT-15 Chromatic Tuner:

I sing, practicing mostly a cappella, for which I need pitch cues. I like the sound of blown-reed pitch pipes, but find them distracting to blow just before singing a song or exercise. I also find that blown-reed pitch pipes fail, perhaps because I overblow them or something.

Pockettones is the best solution that I've found, and I keep buying replacements as needed, but they are unreliable in at least 2 ways that constitute serious shortcomings:

    1. The batteries can fail without warning. Replacement batteries are available, and not too expensive, but tricky to identify and acquire.

    2. The pitches sometimes change without warning. My C-C instruments sometimes switch spontaneously to F-F. Sometimes some of the pitches shift, while others stay where they belong. This is tolerable in my individual practice, but destroys the value of the instrument in performance.

    Nice unit.

Comments about Farley's PocketTones PT-15 Chromatic Tuner:

I've used this unit for a short while and it works very well. I like the fact that when you press the note, it will sound long enough to get you in tune and all you do is press the note again to get it to stop. The only inconvenience would be the battery. It's a round/flat type, so you need to buy a spare. You probably won't have one of these just lying around. But the unit works as advertised and I would recommend it.

    Excellent for timpani use

    By Matthew-w3bIP

Comments about Farley's PocketTones PT-15 Chromatic Tuner:

I use it as a timpani tuner in my school band. The volume switch is very nice so that you don't have this insanely loud note over the entire ensemble when retuning drums. The only thing I would change is that I would have both the sharp and flat values written. It's not a huge deal but would require no thought at all if the flats were already on it. Otherwise, this thing works wonders.
