I used to use nylon-wound bass strings back in the day (in the 1960s, on a Vox Phantom IV) and I loved them, even though the wrapping took a beating when I played with a pick (probably wasn't that wise to use coins as picks, but . . . ). These Fender nylon-wrapped strings feel more tightly wound and better made than those first gen strings.
These add a deep, thumpy tone reminiscent of an upright bass (perfect for R&B and jazz or those '60s rock sounds of the early Stones). But they're also quite versatile. I put them on my Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass and these transformed the sound. I couldn't be happier (and the black wrapping goes so nicely with the Geddy's black-and-white color scheme.
The steel core gives them a slight latent ring. The nylon wrapping is a bit slick, so they're also fast. Not for everyone, but if you're looking to break away from the bright, edgy sound characteristic of roundwound strings, then give these a try. I'll have to see how long they last.
The Fender strings cost less than half the price of similar La Bellas.

These are unique. They're exceptional for jazz, fair / good for slap bass, and compatible with whatever else.
Thanks!
I bought these strings because I wanted something smoother / faster. Also, I felt like they'd motivate me to focus more on jazz music (as it takes up a large portion of my music education major).

I opened the box and to my suprise, they're solid black! I hadn't done my research!
All is well though, they're consistent with my Epiphone Les Paul bass' color scheme (cherry w/ black hardware).
These strings carry little to no restrictions. They're considerably smoother than roundwound strings, making walking bass less strenuous. As most people have said, the brightness of your tone may lessen, but that's sort of what I was going for. They also bend rather effortlessly, I feel like it's been much easier to express myself with these strings, and I believe that says it all
I see no flaws in the construction of these things, I'm curious to see how long they'll last. Regardless, I'll likely use them again.

I have played bass for 47 years and have used everything from rounds to flats and everything in between. I have never played on strings such as these. The tone and feel are wonderful.I havent tried any other tapewounds than Fender, but if they are all like these, I'll be changing the strings on all 6 of my basses soon!

The E string came unraveled after just a few hours of playing. I should have bought rotosound, they have never gave me a problem. When for something cheaper and that is what I got.

Comments about Fender 9120 Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings:

The Fender 9120 Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings are my favorite.
For that retro sound, flatwound strings (especially on a semi-acoustic bass) are ideal.
For the sound that must be very bright and twangy, perhaps only roundwound strings will do.
For anything in between, these Nylon Tapewound Strings are absolutely ideal.
If you are playing a mixed bag that ranges form hard-core C&W to hard-charging rock'n'roll, these strings deliver.

Comments about Fender 9120 Nylon Tapewound Bass Strings:

I have Labella Tapes on one of my main basses but wanted tapewounds for a project bass I'm working on as well. I purchased the Fenders because they were one of the most affordable tapewounds I could find, and I already use Fender flatwound strings (which I like very much) on another bass, so I figured why not. To my surprise, these are pretty much just like a lighter gauge version of the Labella tapes. For those of you that do not know... Tapewounds are generally a very mellow sounding strings with little to no high end "sparkle" and these deliver in that department as one would expect from a quality string. Great thump and roundness to them. Overall I am very pleased and will probably buy these strings again in the future.

While these strings sound nicely mellow and natural and are easily installed, the bridge had to be raised quite high because the strings vibrate in a wide pattern. On the other hand, it's not too great a problem because they get to their pitch without much tightening, so they remain smoothly easy on the fingertips. End result? Great tone, comfortable, but a fraction of a second slower in action. I haven't yet decided whether I would buy them again versus just sticking with flatwound metal strings.

I have only had the strings on my bass for about a week now, so its really tough to give too detailed of a review just yet. I will say however, that the feel and overall palyability is fantastic. I love the smooth soft feel that the wrap gives you. less noise, less click, and a rich tone. I am used to using flat wounds for that reason. I like these because I still get that punch from a round wound string with the smooth feel of flatwounds. Just cant beat it for the price in my mind.
