In a world with a lot of guesswork surrounding replacement parts, proper fits, and innacurate specs, it was wonderful to get something that was a perfect fit. These were a perfect, drop-in replacement for the stock tuners on my new MIM Fender Cabronita. Installation took 5 minutes of work with a hollow tube nut driver (and that included removing the stock tuners). I've done 2 string changes since, and the pins / locking mechanism is as good as any locking tuner I've used in the past 21 years (generally Sperzels). Smooth and accurate gears. Expedient string changes. Staggered, so you can get rid of that string tree if you want and remove another friction / potential binding point. The break angle over the nut is not nearly as dramatic as with the bent steel tree, but the angle is absolutely sufficient and honestly the original angle was (IMO) putting too much pressure on the nut and without lube (e.g. Big Bends Nut Sauce) I could see that being a nasty binding point as well. So, these tuners are not only convenient, but definitely help the overall functionality of the instrument. Great and worthwile purchase.

The 3 treble-string tuner holes are filled with chrome! I wish I had discovered that before I installed them (and back when I bought them). So far I have been unable even to drill the chrome out. Seems like a major quality-control oversight. Advice: Inspect them before you install them.On the plus side, they were easy to install on a strat knockoff--no adjustments needed (other than clearing the chrome out of the holes!)

Comments about Fender Deluxe Locking Machine Heads:

Eased my concern with the 2 pin drop in when they dropped in perfectly. Yes, the mim strat is 2 pin. Thought I'd run across that situation (clogged string holes) stated in the most negative comment but turns out that the mechanism need to be turned way out to clear the string entry - unlike the few turns on the Sperzels on my Strat Plus. Happy camper playing in tune :-)

I was disappointed with the quality of this product and returned them to MF. Since I didn't use them, I can't comment on their functionality. In my opinion they don't compare to Sperzel or Schaller.
Of course, Musicians Friend handles issues in a professional manner.

Mind you, there are varying heights (the three taller posts are E, A, and D. The short posts are G, B, and E. They drop in easily. ALSO, go to the Fender site and they have a really good rule-of-thumb for positioning the string holes when restringing (critical).

Comments about Fender Deluxe Locking Machine Heads:

I have upgraded some of the newer models of Stratocasters, Telecasters, Jaguars, and Jazzmasters, by utilizing this set of Korean made machine heads. They work adequately with Fender Tremolos and are an upgrade for most models. They replace the newer sealed machine heads with no difficulties. They are not the Kluson type that Fender used on the vintage models and are not a replacement for them. When used properly, they do help to keep the guitar in tune.

                          • Bloodless String Changes

Comments about Fender Deluxe Locking Machine Heads:

I had no trouble at all installing them on my Fender American Standard Hard Tail Strat (built around 2000). I hate changing strings, but I like new strings, so I put locking tuners on all my guitars. These tuners look great with the Fender logo, and the nubs fit perfectly into the holes from the original tuners. I'm 57, and changing strings is like shaving used to be: there is always the chance that THERE WILL BE BLOOD. Not with these. These locking tuners are graduated in height, but not like the original tuners. There are three long and three short. At first I was concerned about the D string popping out of the nut, but I've been playing and bending the strings, and everything is fine with one string tree. I haven't tried this, but if you plan on installing these on a headstock without the nub holes, I would try first bolting the tuners tight enough to make a mark, then remove the tuners and use an awl to make the holes for the nubs. If that works, you won't have to use a drill, or grind the nubs off, which might get metal debris into the mechanism. That's what I'll try when I install the second set I bought, here at MF, onto a strat copy I'm putting together.
I can buy locking tuners a little cheaper, but I don't think they are better than these, and they don't have the Fender logo.
