Comments about Fender Pure Vintage '64 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:
All I can say is, if you want the sound of a '64 Jazz bass, these are the REAL DEAL. They're a little quieter and more full-range than modern pickups. But, MAN, do they sit pretty in a mix!
I used to own a '64 Jazz Bass. I sold it because it had become so valuable I was afraid to take it to gigs, and also because the lacquer finish would come off in tiny flakes on my clothes and skin every time I played it.
I bought a 2006 American Standard Jazz bass and love it! The pickups sound hotter and a little bassier than the '64, but it's still every inch a Jazz bass.
If Fender had never made these Pure Vintage '64 pickups I could have been perfectly happy with the bass as it was, but I got a great deal on an open-box set of these and decided to try them. Wow! Thank you Fender, and thank you, Musician's Friend!
