OVERVIEW

The feel of a traditional pick with the brightness of metal.

Fender Steel Guitar Pick 4-packs are the ideal way to get the picks that improve tonal quality yet have the same feel you're already used to. Steel picks are composed of a specially formulated stainless steel material that provides the flexibility of a traditional pick, but the exceptional brightness and clarity of a metal pick. The classic Fender 351 shape has polished edges for a smooth feel that will be gentle on your strings, while textured ridges on both sides allow for an excellent grip.

Comments about Fender Steel Guitar Pick 4 Pack:

These Fender Stainless Steel picks were very disappointing. I was expecting a bright, strong, focused attack. Instead, I got thin, scratchy and, of all things, quiet. Yes, quiet. Compared to a 351 celluloid pick, the sound was quieter and less "fat". I wouldn't say "bright", though - just thin. It takes more effort to get the same volume from your strings, and the result is not pleasant.
The picks are apparently stamped and have no bevel to speak of. There's actually a small burr on one side as an artifact of the stamping process. This burr drags across the string and makes an unpleasant scraping sound preceding every note. Not a good thing, and I can't imagine it is good for string life, either.
I took the time to use a fine-grit sharpening stone to put a bevel on the edge. It improved the "scraping" sound considerably, but it didn't improve the tone or the volume.
Finally, the picks are cold and hard to hold on to. There is a bit of texture to the grip surface of the pick, but it is ultimately pretty slippery. Combine this with the extra oomph you need to bring to your picking style, and you'll find yourself flinging these all over the room.
I do not recommend spending extra to get these picks.

This pick has grooved to help with your grip. Unfortunately the grooves also catch your strings. I can't use these picks.

Comments about Fender Steel Guitar Pick 4 Pack:

I've used a lot of picks over the years. I've mostly settled on nylon when I'm using a pick (Dunlop Nylon Max Grip). I had never tried steel before though and I was cheap, so I gave it a try. The sound is even more abrasive than I expected and even the slightest drag across the strings is very apparent. They look cool and I might keep them around as a novelty, but they are not worth using.

Comments about Fender Steel Guitar Pick 4 Pack:

Slightly brighter sound, probably hard on guitar finish, more of a novelty.

Comments about Fender Steel Guitar Pick 4 Pack:

I love the unique metallic attack. I love the thickness- I prefer a thin pick and while not quite as flexible as a celluloid thin, it is flexible enough and sounds like a much heavier pick. I love the sound, the feel and the durability. Except for s few songs where I still use a very skinny (floppy) pick for fast strumming, this is my pick of choice now.
