The Floyd Rose Special maintains the construction parameters and features of an Original Floyd Rose, while utilizing zinc alloy saddles in place of steel and a zinc alloy sustain block in place of brass. The design specifications and high quality materials of the Special Series Floyd Rose bridge will hold up to the demands of today's performers.
The R3 Nut is designed for guitars with neck widths of 1-11/16" (42.90mm) and a 10" radius.

so lets start with the good I have , own and or tried extensively all the bridges except german schaller floyd roses at this time. Taken this as well as the licensed and original 1000 apart so I can help people out a lot.
ok so the good
it can be upgraded , the fine tuners are much smoother feeling than the licensed I found. The whammy bar twists on a little nicer and you get lots of good stuff. It's still 90% a licensed floyd rose to be honest but much better than the knock off ones on "echo bay". The tuning stabillity will be better as steel is harder to go dull than a zinc baseplate so this is built to last longer as when the blades go dull it's hard to keep the floyd in tune. I heard many people use chap stick on the posts.
the bad
I know a few people who use heavy gauge strings around 12-52 and 13-60 area that the saddles where soft and didn't last long. The block where all your tone comes from is still zinc it looks identical to the licensed one just has a different stamp on it they weigh the same too and remember guys weight is tone. So this bridge although an improvement over the licensed it's not something I'd run out and buy for a guitar I'm building. The only part of this that is high end is the base plate where it says "floyd rose special" on it that keeps everything together.
I'd suggest this for beginners to intermediate players , something to warm up with or try some new whammy bar tricks without worrying about a floyd rose original 1000 or higher going dull or whatever. Maybe to play small clubs or whatever. If you are say 17 or 18 and money isn't good I'd buy it and grow with it. It can be upgraded and you'll get a better sound if you know what you're doing with the right block upgrade and some new saddles. For the price you can't go wrong as we always get what we pay for.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great value and as always great service from Musiciansfriend. I needed this as a replacment bridge for a floydrose "knockoff". They offer allot of cool finishes. It can change the look of your inst. too! I replaced a cheap black bridge with swanky nickel finished floyd and it made a nice subtle/custom touch to the look of my guitar.

I will NEVER buy a Original Floyd Rose ever again. This is the exact same thing. The only difference is this one is made out of Zinc, softer metal than the OFR. Which means, the saddles may not last as long but either way, I have 2 Specials and both guitars stay in tune and function great. As long as you take care of your equipment and you know how to set it up properly, this thing should last you a long time. So unless you are worried about the name or logo, save yourself the cash and pickup a Special.

This tremolo surprised me in a good way. I got it to replace a Jackson tremolo on a mid-range guitar, and the way it increased my guitar's playability was a very pleasant surprise. I bought this as an alternative to getting an "orginal floyd rose" since they cost close to $300 and still only have a 1-year warranty (not what I call standing behind their product). I use this to play anything from Sabbath, Van Halen, Malmsteen, Ozzy, etc. This tremolo is very similar to ones that I have played on $1,000 guitars, so if you want a good tremolo at this price, you've found it!

Bought this to replace a low profile licensed Floyd on a Jackson guitar. After modifying the bridge slightly to fit the route, works perfectly. I installed a big brass sustain block for better tone. Original Floyd Rose parts will fit this bridge. This is the only non-original Floyd that is backed/warranted by Floyd Rose. Definitely the best choice for under $100.

If you need a new bridge and don't want to spend the money for the original then get this one. Quality made in Korea with a hardened steel base plate with zinc saddles. Best Floyd under $100.
