OVERVIEW

Add fun and dramatic LED lighting to your guitar.

Think of the Fretlord FretLightZ as a spotlight mounted on your guitar or bass, aiming right on your fretboard so you can see your fret position in the dark. The light has 5 colors to choose from.

Fretlord's Fretlightz comes with a mounting clip that attaches to the headstock strings behind the nut. Fretlightz projects a brilliant high output LED light onto the fretboard.

The Fretlightz LED light also pops out of the claw base to use as a gig light to see your set list onstage or wherever you need light.

Flip it on when you break for a lead solo, or provide much needed light in those dark clubs with little to no stage lighting. Nighttime beach gigs, campfires, or just tearing it up while practicing or recording in the studio.

Fretlightz produces lighting effects making your frets, strings, hands, knobs, bridge, and guitar body illuminate. Color theme setups create an interactive flashing effect with the shadows of your hands giving of the effect of multiple color changes off the frets. Fretlightz is one handy accessory and looks absolutely outrageous to help battle the dark forces of low visibility.

Fun little light....

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

I've owned this for over a year now, use it once in awhile. The batteries just pooped out after about 20 hours of use, and they were CR2016 batteries sandwiched together. I used a single CR2032 battery, which just happens to be as thick as the two originals. The light is much brighter than it ever was, and the battery is the exact same voltage so I'm pretty sure it won't hurt the LED (in theory at least). Anyway, it's not only fun and cool, but very PRACTICAL in a dark room when you can't see your frets otherwise.

Not Very Useful

Cons

  • Doesn't Illuminate Much

Best Uses

  • Adds To Stage Image

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

I bought the FretLightz so I could see my fretboard in a darkened room. Sadly I could not. Several reasons I found it less than useful:

1.) Just not bright enough. I could sort of see the fret markers for the first 5 frets, but not any further up the fretboard.

2.) I bought the multicolor light. Mistake! It blinks and pulses the different light colors. Cool effect, but if you need to see your frets, you better hope you steal a glance during one of the illuminated pulses.

3.) The clip attaches loosely to the strings on the peghead. If you play guitar without moving your body, that's fine, but if you like to move while on stage, the clip is going to slip and turn.

4.) The clip doesn't hold the light securely. If you touch the light to turn on the power switch or adjust its position, it's going to fall out of the clip.

5.) No info about batteries. Since there's no instructions included, you have to disassemble your FretLightz to figure out what kind of batteries it uses. They're CR2016, 2 pieces.

6.) Replacing the batteries requires a jeweler's screwdriver. Kids...don't attempt this while onstage. If your batteries die, wait till you get home before performing micro-surgery.

7.) How long do the batteries last? No idea! I was thinking of bringing spare batteries to my next gig, but see #6 above.

In summary: FretLightz is a cool idea that's poorly designed and cheaply manufactured. Reminds me of a Cracker Jack prize!

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

I have the green light and it works fantastic after some very easy but critically necessary adjustments. I am no handyman at all, but these adjustments were very easy and now it is a fantastic light. First I cut small pieces off of a non-slip pad like you would have in your kitchen and using a glue stick attached them to the inside of the clamp which is plastic and has no grip. This allows the clamp to grip much better and not slide around while playing at all. Second I used the glue stick again and cut out small pieces of felt & glued over the top of the light to prevent the ambient light from reaching my eye. It is now the perfect light and is highly practical for seeing in the dark and looks very cool!

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

It's a real cool toy that makes a great light show on the fingerboard, and it helps you see the frets. Tried it on a bass (standup and electric) mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars and a banjo. It really was a hoot.

The down side is it falls off the headstock strings easily, and the whole thing falls apart if you touch it. I finally put some electrical tape on it ans it stayed together.

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

I have seen a couple different bands using these lights. (Wolves In The Throne Room, Storm of Light.)I thought they were pretty neat, but had never seen one before. I did some research and found out what they were. I bought a green one and i like it a lot. Works great, and is brighter than i expected. Thinking about getting another one for my pedal board. If you play in dark places. Get one.. It will help you find the way.

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

I bought this as a gift for my husband. The photo suggested that the light illuminated the entire fretboard. What it does is create a strobe effect on a small area. Not helpful at all.
I'm going to see if I can coax it to work as advertised. If so, I will follow up on this site.

Does what I wanted it to

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

I'll certainly find this item useful, but needed to modify it to get exactly what I want out of it. It radiates too much light to the sides and is actually kind of blinding, both to me and the audience in a quiet space; so I contrived a little shade for it so that it only directs the light down the fretboard where I need it. Also, the neck is too short- the light really needs to be an inch or so higher off the head- fretting fingers and capo cast shadows so that I cannot see my pick very well. Finally, the cradle that holds the light itself is wimpy- bump it and the light falls out. So after goofing around with it a bit it's fine, but unless you're a craftsman as well as a musician, it may not serve as well as you'd like...

Comments about Fretlord FretLightZ Fretboard Illuminator LED Light:

I thought this might be the answer for dimly lit stages, but I can't get it to stay on the headstock. And the light flickers like a strobe light and is more of a distraction. Very flimsy and not very well made. I guess you get what you pay for.

I purchased different colors of these for use in smaller venues where the lighting isn't that good and stage lighting isn't an option. These sufficiently light the fret board on my bass. The frets take on a almost neon like shine.
