OVERVIEW

Safe and stable voltage for optimum performance at an affordable price.

Like its Merit series predecessor, the Furman M-8x, the Furman M-8x2 power conditioner is an ideal low-cost AC power solution for any rackmount system, just in a chassis that is 3.5" shorter. The 1U M-8x2 also has eight switched AC outlets in the rear panel to power and protect all your audio equipment with up to a 15-amp load.

The Furman M-8x2 power conditioner protects your electronic equipment by combining high voltage varistor (MOV) surge and transient suppressors. The fast-acting suppression circuit quickly responds and clamps transient voltages to safe levels. An RFI/EMI interference filter works to prevent and suppress noise from fluorescent lights, certain dimmers, radio transmitters, and similar sources of electronic pollution from contaminating the AC line and from there, leaking into sensitive audio, video, or computer circuits. The Furman M-8x2 power conditioner is NRTL/TUV listed.

FEATURES
  • Filtration of noise from radio frequencies and electromagnetic interference
  • Standard level of surge suppression
  • 8 rear panel outlets
  • Sturdy one rack space design

Make sure that your music gear operates at optimal voltage. Its life and your sound depend on it.

The new Furman conditioners now have one front-panel outlet, which is most helpful in home studio use when you want to try something out without having to climb behind your console to make a permanent connection. They have a very short chassis so access to other devices in your rack is not hampered. They last a very long time, are reasonably priced, so that is why I give them highest marks for overall value.
Recently added the Furman M-8X2 to my home studio where it does duty with a ten year old Furman conditioner once used in an amp rack. As my stack of studio components & devices grew I needed more power outlets. Most reviews of music related devices & instruments speak about the sound of a device. In the case of Furman conditioners, the lack of sound is the key. Less IS more. Most homes are plagued with flourescent lights, air conditioner motors, appliance motors, etc. that can really dirty up the electrical power to your sensitive recording devices. WiFi devices generate RFI as well as nearby cell towers. With the two Furman power conditioners, my recordings are absolutely free of any power-related noises. When I listen to recordings others have done in their home studios, I often hear these types of electric power induced noise, but not in my recordings.
While Furman makes very high priced devices, my two low-cost conditioners work flawleesly, and one has done so for ten years. Now that's quality & value.

I had some Furman surge protector/power conditioner, then a short happened in one of the devices connected to one. The surge protector breaker in the Furman didn't trip. What the Furman did do was keep supplying power to the short-circuiting device, causing it to catch on fire, then half the electronics in the Furman unit blew out and the surge protector breaker still didn't trip. If starting fires and blowing up your electronics is your idea of an "old fashioned" surge protector, then this is great. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere. It isn't exactly an exotic feature to have a surge protector breaker. Cheap power strips even have them.

M-8X2 Power Conditioner

Comments about Furman M-8X2 Power Conditioner:

This is the unit to buy for rackmount power control.
This is a great little rackmount unit. Has 8 outlets in the back, one in the front. The back outlets have variable spacing to accommodate wall warts, but the unit is only 1 rack space so that feature is not super useful, but available nonetheless. The front outlet is very, very handy, particularly for live performances.
Great build quality, metal construction, well made.
It's a bit pricey for what's really a rack-mount power-strip. But it does provide surge protection. What would be great would be common mode rejection so that fluorescent lights wouldn't add noise, but alas not with this "entry level" unit. Still, it's very reliable and practical.

Comments about Furman M-8X2 Power Conditioner:

Furman power conditioners have always been a safe guard for me, either at home where I have a lab,and all my high $$$ test equipment is ran through or playing in front of several hundred people , never a failure and this is using various power generators that can wreak Havoc on delicate gear. Even the power that comes into your house is very "dirty" so anything you care about, computers, stereo systems ECT. grab a Furman, they come in a variety of flavors, they work, they all priced very fair.

Comments about Furman M-8X2 Power Conditioner:

Bought this power conditioner to try and reduce some noise in my rig. Unfortunately it was quite ineffective at noise reduction. Although I do believe it had a positive effect on my tone, it sounds more balanced, less harsh. I do like the on off switch, that is especially effective at home for my pedal board. Surge Protection is a plus.

    Returning right away

Comments about Furman M-8X2 Power Conditioner:

If you are fine with hearing some buzzing through the speakers, then this is a good value. Otherwise, I am not impressed. I installed it and right away I could notice each and every thing I turned on that was connected to it. When I talked the the rep about having it returned, he was like, "It's just meant for speakers.." Why would it have 9 outlets then?

Anyway. Not impressed. I guess that's what I get for not paying for the higher quality gear. Everything else Furman I have ever used has been great.

    A solid value!

Comments about Furman M-8X2 Power Conditioner:

Today I have been mastering songs for a CD. Everything in my signal chain is being powered by this unit. Unless there is music, there is silence. I am completely confident that there will be zero power line noise or artifacts cause by power fluctuation in my output. This unit is functional, effective, well-built and inexpensive, all at the same time. Could I want for more! Try one, you'll be pleased.
It has all the features I need - an on/off switch, a light to let you know it is working, and a front convenience outlet, which I use regularly.
This item is a rock solid performer, and I expect it will continue to be so for many years.
Excellent protection for your expensive equipment at an affordable price point. This unit is probably the value leader in the industry.

This one is nice because the outlet is away from the power switch. Some have the outlet right next to it. That just seems risky to me. Just be aware that wall warts may not fit in the front if you have other gear directly above/below it.
