Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

I had a little hum/noise in my little home studio setup, after connecting my studio gear to this, the hum disappeared. Ive only had the product for a couple weeks but so far so good. The package came in promptly after they got it in stock, everything was working, and even the box was undamaged when I received it. Big up to Musicians Friend for the deal and the shipping.

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

I've had serious noise issues at home where I play guitar, sometimes it is so bad I couldn't enjoy playing. I've tried *many* things to get rid of the noise, but with little success. I recently got tired of the noise (again) and finally spent a lot of money on good EMF meters to determine the type(s) and cause(s) of my noise. I knew I had RF interference. You can shield equipment and cables from that, with patience and attention to detail. But I was still having major noise. I was hoping it wasn't ELF/VLF, because that is harder to remedy. Turns out I got lucky and just have lots of high frequency noise in my power. Most of it is caused by my computer equipment and battery backup units. That's why most of my previous efforts didn't help - I was trying to improve shielding, which doesn't affect noisy power.

Knowing that my biggest problem is dirty power, I looked for reasonable cost solutions, most of which involve filtering. I already used three Monster Power units that have what is supposed to be very good noise filtering (Stage 3 or better). But with my meter, I could see the Monsters were removing only a small percent of this noise. I decided to give this Furman unit a try, since the price was pretty reasonable. It removes about 80% of the noise, which makes a very big difference. That's much better than my Monster Power units, and at about a third the cost. Furman has a better grade of noise reduction/filter, but it costs considerably more. I also have one of the lower grade Furman units (M-8 family), which removes about one third of the noise. That isn't really good enough for me. I think the PL-Plus would be fine if I also apply some noise filtering to the computer gear. But if I could afford the nicer Furman, I would definitely give it a try.

Filtering is sort of additive, so replacing my Monsters with a couple more PL-Plus units may also do the trick. Anyway, I went from pretty extreme noise to a much more manageable level, rarely requiring my noise reduction systems to be used.

Note that this unit has several outlets, but they are not all isolated from each other. There are two banks of outlets. The outlets in each bank can share noise with each other, but not with the outlets in the other bank. This isn't too big of a problem for me, because my audio gear isn't the main source of my noise. I also tried plugging my computer gear into the Furman. It worked about the same as plugging my audio gear into the Furman. Didn't seem to matter one way or the other. I just need more filters for the amount of noise that I have. I will almost certainly swap my Monsters for these units to see if that solves the problem, since the Monsters aren't really giving me much noise reduction anyway. The Monsters are also several years old and nearly always on, so maybe they are worn out.

Do not try to daisy-chain these units to get better filtering - it actually gets worse when you do that. Just plug each one into the wall and they will each remove some of the noise in the circuit. Seems like a reasonable price for reasonable performance, although it doesn't get rid of all the noise in my situation. Pretty heavy unit, so hopefully that means it'll last a while.

This is NOT a voltage regulator. It will shutdown if certain voltage problems occur, but it does not regulate power. If you need that, this is not the right type of equipment. This is just power filtering / surge protection. There are 3 products in Furman's PL line. They all seem to do the same thing and differ only in how they tell you about your voltage. But they don't correct it, nor claim to.

If you have noise problems, I recommend getting good meters to figure out what specific type of noise you have and what is causing it. I wasted years trying things that wouldn't work until I had real information showing me what my problem was. If the meters indicate noisy/dirty power, then this Furman unit is pretty good.

The performance earns 4 stars for solid mid-range power filtering, but for the reasonable cost it is 4.5 - 5 star deal.

This thing is pretty massive, so make sure your rack can handle it. It works really well, the lights in the front make it easy to understand. It has two lamps on the front that you can pull out or hide and you can control their brightness, definitely helpful! The spaces in the back that give you extra room for bulky devices is really helpful! I love that this has an outlet on the front as well, I use it for my phone and my laptop. It is really good, it keeps away any noise that you would usually get from a bad power source. The price is irrelevant on this this, whether this is cheap or expensive, it does the job it was made to do!

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

Recently, I just built a new PA system for one of my bands. After investing several thousand dollars in a digital console and new power amps, we decided that we should up the ante on our power conditioning.

I've been using Furman gear since the early 80's (I've got one of their parametric EQs in a studio rack that's still rockin'). Their power conditioners have been in my equipment racks as long as they've been making them. But the ones we had been using for the PA were coming up on 8 years old. Being a Senior Electronics Tech by trade, I knew that certain components in a power conditioner wear out over time.

After comparing specs, features, and price we opted to go with the PL-Plus-C. The two specs I really look at for a power conditioner are the noise attenuation and the response time. A lot of manufacturers don't fully spec these, and in my experience an omitted spec is usually one they're not very proud of.

The attenuation and response time of the PL-Plus-C is on par with some of Furman's more expensive solutions, just minus the whistles and bells. I gave up having a digital live voltage readout, but for me the bar graph style meter is a lot easier to read across a stage.

Bonus points to Furman for adding the LED on the front to indicate that the protection circuitry is working. This is a section of power conditioners that takes the brunt of line surges (so your equipment doesn't have to). It does eventually wear out, and to have that "wear indicator" on the front is huge! And the lamp socket on the rear panel is a handy addition when working on your connections...because we all know how well most clubs are lit, right?

Finally, the unit is seriously built. It's funny because one of the only negative reviews I've ever read on this conditioner was someone complaining about the weight. Well, that rookie apparently doesn't realize that good noise attenuation on AC power lines takes some sizeable inductors, and those are use going to have some heft to them. I personally find the weight (12 pounds) to be reassuring.

So, how well does it work? Time will tell. Again, this is 1 rack unit of insurance. I can tell you this...in all of my time using Furman power products I have never lost a piece of gear to an electrical event. And when I can read interviews and see pictures of the gear that a lot of pro touring musicians and sound companies use and see the same piece of gear I've got in my rack...well, there's got to be something to that.

            Weight isn't a bad thing

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

This is in direct relation to the previous review.Weight is NOT A CONCERN when protecting your gear. In fact, it often is a good indicator of quality. If you know anything about Power Supplies in a computer, you'll know that the heavy ones are usually the most reliable one's on the market.I'm glad it's heavier than the first version!Don't let Weight influence your purchase. This is a great product and I highly recommend it.

Comments about Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner:

This power conitioner is supposed to be the improved version of the Pl-Plus Series 1.The biggest prblem I have is that this thing is TWICE as heavy than its predecessor. Gigging musicians today want their gear to be LIGHT weight and easy to haul. This thing weighs more than most power amps @ 12 lbs! It's a fancy power strip, not an amplifer.Bring back the 5.8 lb. Pl-Plus with LED read-outs!
