Comments about Gard Deluxe Leather Trombone Gig Bag:
This bag has my highest recommendation. I do have an issue I with the photos in the catalog, as they are a bit misleading regarding the slide compartment. The photo shows the slide being dropped in parallel to the zipper, which is not the way it really goes in. There is a slide protector, and the slide is inserted from the end, and that entire protector goes into the bag. The protector has one hard side (toward the outside of the bag) which provides protection from dings. It is better than the photo would lead you to believe.
The Gard Deluxe Leather Trombone Gig Bag came with a "rain hood" which can be placed over the bag in inclement weather (not mentioned in the description), a nice feature. Can be configured either in a single strap or double, like a backpack. A zippered bag, roughly 6" sauare, is included for mouthpieces, etc. If you travel with more than one mouthpiece, I recommend you buy individual pouches for each so they don't cluck into each other in the zipper bag.
The quality of the leather on this bag is very good -- was not sure what to expect at the price, but was pleasantly surprised upon its arrival. Workmanship was solid, and the protection is better than the Reunion Blues (original style from ~1991. . . note: I was happy with the Reunion Blues protection, 20 years with no damage to horn). The only thing I'm wondering about is the durability of the cloth on the slide pouch. I have a .525 bore Yamaha, and the width of the slide is a bit broad for the pouch, it seems; might be stretching it a bit. Curious to see if I get 20 years out of this one, like I did with the Reunion Blues. For another comparison, I also have, and am happy with, a bag from the folks at Gig. That is a good bag, but bulky. The Gard bag is smaller in overall dimension, and affords better protection.
The quality of this leather bag is on par with other bags at double the price. An excellent value, indeed.
