I've owned this case for about a week now and I've got to say so far so good. I'm a traveling musician and this case is in the mist of a ton of gear on the road. It is advertised as a universal case, but it fits my bass like a glove. I play an Ibanez SRX505 out on the road...The reason that I bought the Gator is b/c the Ibanez case that came with my bass upon purchase was beat up pretty badly by an airline that I'll not name :0 -- And I know it...it wasn't a flight case, But it was pretty much destroyed.

On the flip side, this Gator case is very sturdy & well made. I'd feel safe sticking it on a commercial flight without worry. I'll give this case 4 our of 5 only b/c it is 'universal' and doesn't fit every bass perfectly. Over all, I am very happy with this purchase and I'd recommend it to any musician looking for a good case on a budget.

This case seemed alright at first... It fit all of my basses and was able to handle the rigors of riding in the back of my band's trailer.

However, I later discovered that the supprort straps, which keep the lid up while the case is open, are attached with hot glue. Of course, they all let go with time. This is unacceptable, particularly because of where this case is priced. If it were a Musician's Gear case, then I'd understand.

In addition, the latches don't always stay latched while in transport anymore. Yes, I did say that this case is transported in a trailer, but it isn't abused. It should be able to handle average wear-and-tear, but the latches can't, and they now easily pop open with minimal vibrations.

I flight, trashed case

By Allen White

from California

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

Should not be baught with the intention of using it as a flight case.
One flight with this case, on the way home checked it in, it was closed and locked but when I picked up from baggage claim it was partially open and totally destroyed. I would have been better spending my money on a real ATA flight case.
Didn't stand up to the TSA, or the baggage handlers
Not worth the money, it didn't funtion as advertized

Wish I'd bought two!

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

Gator GPE-ATA Bass CaseThis is by far the best instrument case I have ever owned. I'm a touring bass player and my basses have to survive jostling rides in a big trailer, abuse at the venue, and occasionally on a plane. It is very lightweight - it feels about half as heavy as my G-TOUR traditional "road style" ATA case. With my P-Bass in it, the case is very well-balanced in my hand. The cushioned rubber handle is sturdy, solid, and FAR more comfortable than any of my other hard cases. The outside is hard plastic like an SKB but it's slicker looking. The latches locks are top knotch and fit perfectly together, no need to nudge the lid this way and that. The inside is firm red velvet - cushy enough to protect from bumps & scrapes but firm enough that I feel like the bass will be safe in an impact. Can't wait to take it on tour.

Survived a US Tour & a Fly-date

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

Okay, I reviewed this case after I bought it... and I DID end up with two. I took this on a 7-week US tour; we traveled in a bus with our gear in a trailer behind us. These things endured being thrown around, stacked on top of, and used as door stops. They still look brand freaking new and most important, my basses were totally protected.I recently flew Southwest to Indiana for a fly-out show. First of all, the case with my P-Bass in it weighed only 25 pounds - less than most ATA cases EMPTY. So I got to check it for free. It got scanned by TSA (what a surprise) but they were able to open and close it easily. This is the best case I have ever owned, guitar or otherwise. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

20+ years of guitars etc. I been through a lot of gear. Gator cases (made in Florida) are a great value. I love the fact that all the locks are on the front and none on the bottom/top. Also there is a button on the bottom of the locks that pushes in to then open the locks! Awesome. The center latch has the lock mechanism and it's actually pretty good,Makes my SKB look like a toy. Fits the bass tight and is as compact as a case good really get. I had to return the Spector case because it would fit the Spector bass! Glad I did it was cheaply made. This case Looks like it could probably be thrown in the ocean and come back dry safe and sound...wonder if it floats?

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

I purchased this case to protect my Musicman bass while traveling. I took it on a trip down to Florida (it traveled by truck) and was happy to see that it protected my bass, and even kept it in tune! However, I soon noticed that the handle was coming loose. Within 5 minutes of carrying the case the handle came off completely. The screws come up from the case into the handle, which prevents the handle from being screwed back in or tightened.

When I called Gator to complain, they told me to just "glue it back on." I expected them to at least reimburse me or send me a new case.

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

After studying features, prices, and reviews of cases for a couple days I decided that this Gator ATA had the best user reviews, best price/feature ratio and had what I needed in a case. I've had it for a few weeks now and I am delighted to say I was right. This is a great case for the price, very functional, great looking, good fit for my Ibanez bass. I like the way the latches work. It is very sturdy. There's plenty of room for most everything, with the one exception of extra strings...I do keep a set in the case but the compartments are not big enough, they are in with the body of the bass. No problem... This is a well-built case and well worth the price.

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

This is my second case. The first one was used as a step by some dullard backstage at a NAMM show gig. It warped the case top's aluminum frame rendering the outside 2 latches ineffective - not staying reliably closed. The case did its job though. My prized Zon was harm-free. I did attempt various methods to get the case's lid back in shape but with no success. Given that it did a good job protecting my bass under abuse, I'm pretty happy. Bought another to replace the first one. For the price and local gigs, I highly recommend it. Based on the results of the damage the case received, I'm not sure I'd trust it in checked luggage for fly gigs though.

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

I bought an ESP B series case for my 6-er, B-206 SM, but it didnt fit in it! I sent it back and bought this case, and I have never seen such a quality guitar case before. The latches are sturdy, snug, and latch with perfection. The case looks good, is balanced on the handle perfectly when a bass in in it, has a nice snug interior, and plenty of room for my pedal, X2 wireless, cords, batteries, etc., without being able to be jossled around and scratch my guitar. If you want a bass case, try this one first!

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

I purchased this case for an old Aria Pro II 5-string bass that I picked up used to learn on. I think I paid more for the case than the bass! Anyway, this case is great! Hinges are larger than on my Fender/SKB case, interior is very nice plush red, latches are beefy. Outstanding value! It seemed to me that my Fender Big Block P bass didn't fit so well, in that the neck didn't lay in the neck channel. Perhaps when I closed the lid, it would've pushed the bass down into the plush liner and fit fine.

I have used this case for about a year. The interior has broken and does not hold my bass securely, the latches are very hard to lock, the lid is out of aliment and does not close securely, and the strap that holds the lid open has broken. VERY POOR Quality. I used this case to hold a Lakland 44-60 Jazz bass as I transported it from rehearsal and gigs. It started falling apart after about 3 months of use. It has gotten so bad I now have to replace it.

Best Case in the world. Was on backlist for a Coffin Case (because, face it, pulling a neon green bass with a purple strap out of a coffin would be amazing) but I cancelled because I really needed a case, so the guy on the phone told me to get this because it was the same as a flight case, but like 200 cheaper. So I ordered it for the great price and have been a happy camper ever since.
Military-Grade is an understatement. Get this case. You will never regret it.

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

I recently bought a Ibanez SR705 and wanted a great case that fit well; and i didnt want the poorly designed stock ibanez case, or a plywood one [which tend too not last long in my hands]. I got my wish! It fits snug as a bug almost like it was designed for the SR series bass; the case looks cool; and looks like it will prevent any drunken slammings too my baby in small club hallways, or loading zones. It doesnt have a great compartment system which is a slight bummer. And It does smell a bit like adhesive, but just leave it open too the summer air and it will be fine. Also, its very, VERY lite and easy tah carry. I dont plan on taking any flights with it, but it will take any road abuse a mid-level metal head can throw at it for sure.

Comments about Gator ATA Polyethylene Bass Case:

A very solidly built case that isn't as heavy as it looks like it ought to be. It snugly holds my Dean EQ5 Five String Quilt Top Bass. The case also travels and stores easily laying flat, sitting up, or standing upright. On top of the great protection, I often gets compliments about how lovely the red velvet interior looks.

I'm not sure if there was a change in design, or if my model is slightly different, but my case has four latches instead of the three that are pictured. Speaking of the latches, those are my only real complaint about the case. My issue is that they only open up less than an inch, so sometimes they still catch on the lid. It can be frustrating when trying to pack or unpack in a hurry. I suppose that's the trade off for getting latches that are more secure than traditional case latches.

One more thing I found is that if you use Dunlop Dual-Design Straploks, there isn't quite enough room to leave the strap attached as well. Not a huge deal (as it's best to take the strap off anyways), but sometimes you just want to pack up or be ready to play in as few steps as possible.
