Ordered the 4 space shallow case for a lightweight bass head. A dbx 160A, an Alembic preamp and a Crown XTI 2000 power amp. The Crown XTI series of amps do fit in this shallow case flush with the back, except the 6000 series that is slightly deeper. great case for these components. They seem to be made with a little better materials than they use to be. The latches can be replaced if they ever fail or get damaged. The handles are better than the old cases also. I am sure the case will last a long time with proper care and minor maintenance.

Do yourself a favor and buy an SKB case instead. I'll probably end up selling this case and buying an SKB case that is larger than what I really need but at least I will be getting a MUCH higher quality case.
This Chinese made Gator case is a so-so rack case. Nowhere near the quality of a U.S. manufactured SKB rack case. I had to settle for it though because SKB's closest equivalent was 1/2" short depth wise for my rack equipment needs.
This is a 3 space rack case with mounting rails both front and back. It should have come with a minimum of 12 screws for mounting three single space pieces of gear from the front. It came with 10. Six in front and 4 in back. What's really disappointing is that it didn't come with any nut clips. Instead each rail has a strip of metal behind it with tapped holes in it. And these pieces of metal are simply stuck to the back of the rails with what appears to be double sided Scotch tape. When you remove the screws the tape doesn't even hold the strips of metal in place.

The latches are very loose and of low quality. They are also installed wrong. On SKB cases the key portion of the latches are attached to the covers. On the Gator case they are attached to the rack itself which means they are free to vibrate and make noise. Since the latch keys on SKB cases are attached to the covers this is not a problem.

Great Value

Comments about Gator GR ATA Shallow Rack Case:

Needed a shallow rack for an audio interface and some mic pre's. SKB shallow rack was too shallow and the normal SKB was too deep. This Gator was the ticket. The tapped pieces of metal for the screws are useless. I used some SKB captive nut hardware instead. The supplied rack screws were crappy and soft. Overall though, I'm happy with the purchase. Build quality is fine. As good as SKB? No, but good enough and a great value for the price.

Comments about Gator GR ATA Shallow Rack Case:

this is a great rack if you dont play bass. The hinges are badly designed, they are very loose against themselves when thier open. The vibrations from my 210 and 115 cab realy make this thing make noise, every G A and D vibrate the most. othewise very good rack.

Needed to assemble a simple I/O rack for live keyboard/synth use. Does the job just fine. I usually use SKB racks but for a small 4U rack, the gator case is more than sturdy enough.

Comments about Gator GR ATA Shallow Rack Case:

I've had this 3 space unit for about a year or 2,and it has held up well. I don't beat my equip. up, but I do haul it around a fair amount. Latches are good quality. Easy to tell front from back. Very easy to access the back panels of your rack gear- unlike some units with a smaller view of the back side that makes plugging stuff in more difficult. Carries easily like a suitcase. My power/preamp weigh about 45 lbs and it handles the load.

Comments about Gator GR ATA Shallow Rack Case:

I bought one of these a few months back and I was concerned about the "looseness" of the latches from the getgo. They got even more floppy with use. also, one of the handles is loose in the slots, causing it to slide to and fro, sometimes to the point that it comes loose on one end or the other!

Comments about Gator GR ATA Shallow Rack Case:

This case is super light. I used to have the skb shallow but it was to short and the back panel was cheap. I preferred the gator shallow because i didnt want to lug around more case than i needed, and its the perfect length(not to long, not to short in depth). I have my racktuner, head and wireless in it. It is built very nicely. The shell and rack parts are top notch. The only lower quality part of this case is the latches. When tighten they are indestructible and create a good seal, but when loosened they begin to feel like they arent nice, but this does not bother me at all, because i am careful with my equipment and not careless and throw it around. I am very happy with my case. It also looks sick when your gear is in it sitting on top of your speaker cabs.

I knocked down the star rating because of the rack mounting hole spacing. The holes are not spaced properly to allow mounting screws on the top holes and bottom holes of standard rack equipment. Only the top holes can be used.

Comments about Gator GR ATA Shallow Rack Case:

Regular sized 4U racks added weight, unused depth space and bulk. I needed something to house my GK RB1001 bass head and a power conditioner. Fit's perfectly on top of my cabs without hanging over the front and back. Older shallow 4U racks I had looked at used only had a rear access panel (not a removable cap/door) that I could barely fit my hand inside. weighs roughly 15 pounds less than the ATA style 4U rack case I had and smaller size makes it easy to one hand.

The shallow case fits perfect on my fender rumble 4x10 cab. Aesthetically and functionally an improvement on the standard depth case. I have a markbass little mark tube 800 so it fits well plus my power conditioner. Probably want to make sure your gear dimensions are suitable. Mounting hardware is solid. Looks great, feels great works great.

Comments about Gator GR ATA Shallow Rack Case:

I prefer light weight racks and this line from Gator fulfills that need. SKB cases are probably made better, but I am not too demanding on my racks and carry these in my car to local gigs.

The good...Gator now installs the latches on the cover (like SKB) and not the rack itself. No more rattling during a performance. Bravo.

The bad. As others have stated, the tapped metal plates are a PITA and will not stick to the rack.
If your units are 1U each, you can hold the plate in place with one hand while screwing in the screws with the other. I installed a 3U Kemper rack and you can't do it. It took me 30 minutes to install the Kemper as the plates kept falling away. I had to use packing tape to try and secure it plate from behind then use a piece of dowel through the hold (sideways) to keep the plate on while putting in one screw on each side.

Gator should have attached these with a bolt. If you can't deal with the plate issue, but an SKB.
