Comments about Gator GRC Slant-Top Console Rack Case:

We traded down from a beautiful--but insanely heavy--OSP road case. The Gator case is *much* lighter and more compact, which was the primary selling point for us as we're loading without a ramp.

Initial impression: This case does not appear made for continuous, heavy road use, as the thin polyethylene walls deform and buckle with point pressure. However, for weekend gigs and small tours, it works great. The lightweight construction makes it much easier to sling in and out of the back of a pickup truck or hatchback.

      Kudos:
      1) Lightweight. Our original OSP case was over 100 pounds empty. This case is 33 pounds, which makes a world of difference.

      2) Compact yet roomy. For us, this case is holding a monitor mixer, two 16x4 snakes, and 7U worth of wireless gear. It's still heavy, but it's manageable.

      Beefs:
      1) Our biggest problem with the case is the single handles on each side. The center of gravity does not line up with the handles, which means that it's prone to tipping and wrenching out of your grip if you're not prepared. Two handles on each side would make this case much easier to carry.

      2) The rack screw mounting plate is a separate strap from the aluminum extrusions. If you remove the pre-placed rack screws, the plate falls away. This becomes a problem when mounting a 10U mixer in the 10U top, as you have to remove all the screws to place the mixer, yet there is no space remaining for your hand to reach underneath and hold the mounting plate against the extrusion. We solved this with some tape to hold the mounting plate in place while we screwed in the mixer.

      3) Lightweight latches. The plastic around the latches flexes and bends when normal latching torque is applied. Considering that this case is not supposed to be a heavy-duty monster, this problem is not a deal-breaker; however, we're concerned that the latches will eventually fail under normal use.

Summary: A light weight protective case, for light-to-medium duty use. Provides more-than-adequate protection for gigging and small tours where there's just you, the bass player, and your car. In spite of the issues we have with the case, we're very pleased with our purchase.

Comments about Gator GRC Slant-Top Console Rack Case:

I had the smaller version of this rack for the last three years. Now we run sound from the stage and I incorporated the power amps into the new larger rack. I purchased the Crown XL series power amps and everything now fits into one compact package. I added wheels and this whole set up weighs less than 50 lbs. What a back saver for us over 50 guys still playing out every weekend.

Sick of wood case bulk, but couldn't find a similar product in the SKB line-up. I got this and couldn't be happier. I know where I'll be looking first in the future.

Comments about Gator GRC Slant-Top Console Rack Case:

I have had this case for almost 2 years. It has proven to be a road rugged beast. I have had no issues with it at all. I only wish they could incorporate a locking mechanism for when I have to leave my machines overnight in strange places.........I did drill it and add locks to all the enclosure lids pretty easily though.
