I've never had a single problem with George L's cables... NOT ONE ISSUE, EVER!!! I bought a kit from Robert Keeley's site about 3 years ago. Ordered the 0.155" cable with gold right angle connectors and stress relief jackets. Took me about 30 minutes to make 10 six inch cables. Plugged in and that was it. My board has been taken apart and changed around dozens of times over the last few years, cables have been added and removed 100's of times, still no problems with sound or connectivity. My advice to all the folks who complain about how the connections fail or how difficult it is to assemble the cables... order a couple of George L's pre-packaged cables... I really don't know how anyone could complain about the quality and sound of these cables. Go ahead and A/B test George L's with any of the Hosa, ProCo, Core X2, Planet Waves, etc... really any mass-marketed cables that are available... you will hear a real, audible, difference. The only complaint I have is the high cost, which is well above any other pedalboard cable products, but I also priced out 10 custom made cables from Redco, using gold Switchcraft right angle plugs and Mogami cable and ended up $10 higher. Also, those "stress relief jackets", they certainly don't relieve any cable-to-jack stress. They're just colored covers, you don't need them, get them only if you're into aesthetics.

I kept ready so many good things about these cables so I finally broke down and spent the money for the pedal board kit. The first few cables were fine then I started getting shorts in them. I would test them and find that the jacket connection was but the pole connection would not seat.
I followed the instructions meticulously being sure not to press down on the cable while I screwed the cap on the jack.
Very unreliable and difficult to assemble
Way to expensive for something that doesn't work consistently

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

So here is what you need to know about George L's before you buy: 1.) they sound incredible 2.) YOU CAN'T CUT THE CABLE WITH WIRE CUTTERS!!!!!! It pinches the cable and it won't work. The only way to cut the cables is with a razor blade. If you do it this way, you won't run into any issues. 3.) They will come unscrewed through wear and tear on your pedalboard. There is short term and a long term way to fix this: short term: screw it back in and make sure it's snug. Long term: buy a plumer's seal appoxy at your local hardware store and put it on all the threads. Let me say this, I've tried other cables, but nothing has the sound quality of these guys.... They're wonderful.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

If I sound frustrated then this review is dead on. I really thought that I would keep these in a my gig bag to do that "quick cable" if I ever needed one, but I need gear that works and is reliable. George L's are neither.
After over and hour I still don't have a useable cable. I'm not inept. I can wire up my own guitars and work on pedals and amps. I have tried recutting, more pressure, less pressure, threading the end harder, lighter and nothing. I will waste no more time and I consider this the WORST $80 I may have ever spend when it comes to gear.

I have done numerous cable comparsions and own cables from 15 different companies. Pro Co Sir Tweeds are by far the best sounding and longest lasting. I still have some Pro Co's from the 80's that still work.
Can't tell since none of the cables work.
      Wasted money.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

I have a rather large pedal board with a chain of between 10 to 15 pedals in series. Prior to using George L's I had to remove pedals from the chain that I wasn't using because of signal degradation between instrument and amp. With the George L's I get, to my ear, a perfectly clear signal to the amp with at least 10 pedals in series. The sound is an absolute improvement over other cables. The assembly is incredibly simple and straightforward. Read the instructions?don?t strip the cable. I do wish they included a few more ends and a little less cable as I have cable left and no more solderless connectors; I rated value ata 4. Yes, they are expensive, but consider how much you have spent on the rest of your equipment. A single quality pedal will cost at least as much and will still sound of poor quality if you don?t use high-quality connectors and cables. The fact is that a chain is only as good as its weakest link. For me, that has always been with the cables. I will NEVER use inferior cables again as the sound difference is amazing. George L?s can only be described as crystal clear like the waters of a mountain stream. I don?t have any affiliation with George L, its parent company or subsidiaries. Save your money, buy these cables, and experience the feeling of discovering your instrument all over again!

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

These cables are extremely easy to use. It is as simple as unscrewing the back, cut the cable to desired length, put the cable in the connector, then screw on the back. That's it! I didn't have any problems making these cables. The only thing that I would recommend is getting a pair of good wire cutters and making your cuts as fast as possible. I found that if you cut the cable faster, your cuts will be much cleaner. Lastly I would like to say that my guitar tone improved greatly just by switching to these cables. Don't listen to the negative reviews, these cables are amazing! Buy some, you won't regret it.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

9 out of 10 right-angle jacks were okay. One was defective.

The kit is great. Cut wire with a razor, straight cut, no angle, no stripping, don't cut with wire cutters. Then simply push the wire all the way into the jack. With your finger, bend the wire just enough so you can screw the cap on.

The screwing action of the cap against the cable sheath cuts it, and connects with the negative (outer) conductor. This is common.

The positive connection is made by pushing the cable all the way in. There is a small (looks like) plastic insert, with a pin hole in it. The center conductor makes contact with the metal, and the plastic insulates the common.

The defective plug's plastic insert wasn't deep enough. It was impossible to push the wire in far enough so it would make contact. And it kept popping loose while screwing the cap on.

I'll use these again because they're easy to assemble, sound quality is great, and they are compact and flexible -- great for a crowded pedal board. But because of the defect, I now perform a quick continuity test with a multimeter after each cable is assembled. Easier than tracking down a break "somewhere" in the whole signal chain.

Bought this for my pedal board, I wanted to put George L's through the whole circuit since they're such a good cable company. The directions said DONT push the cable into the metal part. the cable wont work otherwise, you DO have to push the cable into the end a little bit. ALSO dont cut your cables with scissors or a wire cutter, use a box cutter (or a razor blade tool thing) and a cutting board. you'll get better cuts.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

For those who said they could not assemble these, I wonder how they managed to set up their effects in the first place. A monkey could have done it. I use Monster cables too and don't hear a difference. The only thing is, the George L's are more flexible and clean things up nice. Also, the right angles are small and fit nicely onto a true bypass box. I'll be buying more of these.

Flexible, easy build, custom length - Perfect!

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

While not very pretty - at first the 0.155 cable may seem too skinny and the connectors rather industrial looking - these cables are actually fantastic...and beautifully flexible.Assembling your cables couldn't be any easier - the angle plugs included in this kit are actually easier than the straight George L's connectors because seating the large screw-on cap requires no tiny screwdriver as does the set screw on the straight plugs. I find it perplexing that anyone could have trouble assembling these things, though I suppose there is one key point that, if missed, could cause you trouble. You need a clean, straight cut of the cable using a razor or Exacto blade - do not try smashing it in two with a dull pair of dykes. The biggest plus of this kit for me is that it allows you to customize your cables based on your application - length is up to you (need 3.286" - no problem if you can measure that precisely!) and you can even purchase a straight plug to terminate an end if you need or want to. On my pedalboard, I use various perfectly-sized lengths between my Bad Cat 2-Tone, Moogerfooger, tuner, and EB volume - no extra lengths of looped cable cluttering the board - sweet. You will, most likely, use the 10 connectors before you run out of cable (after all this is a patch-cable kit) but in the unlikely event that you run out of cable first, you can simply order additional cable directly from George L's (mf does not carry it) at $0.90 per foot (www.georgels.com). I didn't use all of the cable but I did have extra connectors and wanted a few guitar cables. So, I purchased 18' of 0.155 cable and a straight plug from George L's. Using 3 excess right-angles from the kit and the purchased straight plug (my amp has a recessed plug that won't accommodate the right-angle plug), I built great guitar-to-pedalboard and pedalboard-to-amp cables. The George L's kit, with 5 top-notch cables as long as 24" each, is a bargain. If you are considering something like the Monster Jazz or Rock patch cables for anything other than pretty looks, consider not only the outrageous price but also the fact that the connectors are very LARGE and could be problematic or at least unwieldy in some pedal applications. The George L's have relatively small connectors and the included rubber jackets cover the metal screw-caps protecting adjacent equipment from dents (as in the case of the wood-sided Moogerfooger) or scratches. You wouldn't want to cover those lovely Monster gold-plated connectors you just paid $25 for, would you? But then again, do you want to scratch up or chip that hand-painted ZVex?I highly recommend this kit for anyone willing to forego surface beauty for pure high-quality, flexible, and functional patch cables at a great price.

because that's about how long it takes to cut and assemble these patch cables. They're fantastic, simple, and completely silent! I am ordering more right now. They are expensive, but you have to pay if you want to get the fullest out of your equipment. The point is that they're worth the money. Plenty of cable; I would have liked to have a few more plugs. I don't have any affiliation with Musicians Friend or with George L's.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

I gig weekly and have been using George L's for about two or three years. I understand what some of the posters here are saying about the signal and it getting crackly. If you don't install the cable into the socket correctly - it will work and then get more crackly with time. When you snip the cable it MUST be at a perfect right-angle - I use scissors when I trim the cable to get a clean cut. When you insert the cable into the jack (I use the 90 degree jacks only) you bend it at a 45 degree angle and then screw the cap on. This causes the cable to be pushed down onto the post (in the jack) and the insulation to be properly cut by the cap - giving proper connectivity. As I said, I have been using these for two or three years and am constantly changing pedals - no problem. I even have two cables cut to about 15 feet that I use as instrument cables. No problems.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

Overall this is just what i needed for my rig . you get what you pay for and i feel i got top quality..
And if you care about aesthetics of your rig will certainly look great.
I never write reviews but after a bad experience with some other solderless wonders I think its time speak up. What could be better? this a cable that is easy to make ..looks great on your board and sounds clear.
They look very well made.I think they will last a lifetime.
That said ..I just got them and havent realy had enough time to test durability.
What i can say is i was able to put them together and had my board up and running in a very short time.
no problems at all with any of them. Just follow the instructions or go online theres a few realy good videos on you tube that will walk you through it..After i did one the others went together easy as pie..
As far as sound ..i dont think i have the best ear to be fair but i will say I can hear a difference in my rig..
Gone is the mess of cheap missmatched tone robbing cable mangle..
Im giving it a 6 only because i think for the price we should get 12 ends not 10.
I have plenty of cable left over (what will i ever do with it)

YOU MUST CUT THESE THE RIGHT WAY!

        By David Needham

        from Houston, TX

        See all my reviews

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

I saw people complaining about these cables, saying that they had to re-cut them several times to get them to work. Well, the key to not running into any problems with these particular cables lies in the device you use to cut them with. DO NOT USE REGULAR WIRE CUTTERS!!! Regular wire cutters squeeze the wire and in-so-doing, leave the wire squashed together on the end and the signal cannot pass through. The best thing to use is A RAZOR BLADE because it is a thin blade that gives you a nice even cut without squashing the wire. Also, with these cables, sometimes the pieces that screw in overtime unscrew a bit and become loose and so your signal will cut in and out. This is no problem, all you do is just screw it back in, but a smart thing to do when you first put them on your board is to go to the plumbing section of your local hardware store and buy some sealant epoxy to put on the piece before you screw it in. I promise you that if you do these two things, you will NEVER have troubles with these cables. I swear by them.

a lot of great reviews here. here's another bad one for you. I assembled custom length cables precisely as instructed and although, when I tested them out (and worked), the very first gig I showed-up at, I had a cable failure in the very first song of our set. I've never been able to get these to work for one live show. great-concept, unreliable.

When they did work, I was impressed with the sound quality and the materials.

FWIW, the Live Wire cheap patch cable I had used for years prior to making the change to George Ls, I had never had ONE problem - ZERO problems with inexpensive patch cable - 100% reliability. George L's - 0% reliability.

            Won't use these ever again.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

After reading countless reviews and wanting to do it right the first time, I'm glad I chose wisely. Using this patch kit along with a Voodoo Labs PP-2 has produced the results we're all after: Clean signal chain and no extraneous noise or hum. Watched a George L tutorial how-to on Youtube and got it right the first time.

Comments about George L's Effects Pedal Cable Kit:

Very straight forward to measure, cut, and assemble. Agree with recommendations about using a blade and not a wire cutter to cut the cable. (My wire cutter pinched slightly and I had to re-assemble two of the cables--my fault, not George L's.) Make sure to test each one before installing in pedal board. (I just plugged one end into my amp and touched the opposite end with my finger.) Also, the instructions are easy to misunderstand if you don't read closely--you DO push the cable into the end-jack to seat it in the pin, but you DO NOT bend all the way down after that because the end cap needs the resistance to pierce the shielding and ground the connection.

The .155 cables are EXCELLENT for pedal boards. Their slim profile leaves much more space than bulky 6-8" patch cables, and the customizable length gives you many more options for pedal location. And yes, I did hear a difference. They sound excellent.
