The E-J Nickel Rockers (11s) are my preferred string set for for rock on Gibson instruments (Les Paul, Explorer, et al). I've found them to be well balanced tonally right out of the pack and they tend to retain their character for the life of the string. I used to play the Boomers exclusively and still do on occasion but I don't like how bright they are when new and more importantly, how quickly the brightness falls off after they wear in. The extra weight on the lower strings used in the E-J set is nice - the little extra bit of metal simply sounds and sustains a little better than the standard set of Nickel Rockers. I like the smoother feel of the roller wound material and although I have no proof, I think it's easier on frets. Pick slides require more attention as the ridges on the string are less pronounced. It can be a little tough to get a good consistent slide - but maybe I just need to spend more time practicing and less time writing reviews... For the price you can't beat this set. Also, if you're playing 10s - step up to a man's string and get the 11s.

I will admit that using strings this heavy with a Floyd Rose isn't exactly kosher, but it worked well aside from the obvious stiffness. The sound was nice and bright, but also full and booming (much nicer than my regular strings). My problem with these strings, however, is that they feel kind of sticky to the touch. This was not only noticeable, but it actually affected sliding. Too much friction for me to be comfortable with them. Might have worked with Fast Fret or the likes, but I'm not a fan of such products. I'm sorry to say, I replaced the the strings the next day with the D'Addarios that I normally use..

Best for Gibson!!

Comments about GHS Eric Johnson Signature Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

Hands down the best string for Gibson guitars...especially if you want to keep that vintage mojo. Excellent tone, durable, less string choke(excessive string noise from gliding across the round wound strings, handles all types of music well. Nothing else go on my Gibsons.

The only strings to use on a Dot.

Comments about GHS Eric Johnson Signature Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I use the lighter ones on my strats, and these mediums are the only ones I used on my dot. They're fantastic if you want a smooth, warm sound. If you go for bite and twang and harsher sounds, these are probably not for you. These can scream and roar, but always with a touch of class. So if you like your playing to sound like a street fight, get something nasty sounding and go to town. If you like something smoother even when you dig in, go for these. Kind of like Sean Connery, you can swear your head off with these and it'll still sound classy.

Comments about GHS Eric Johnson Signature Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

Love these strings, have been playing with them and their predecessor, the Gus series, for decades. They seem to increase sustain and are tough enough to last a month of practice and gigs and still sound/feel good. They're a little heavy for my hollow-body electric, but I have them on my solid body and semi-hollow guitars. I have the light gauge on my hollowbody. The gauge makes a difference: I kinda wish I could find a heavy set for my "surf" guitar. The Gus series used to have a heavier set and I really liked the tone they delivered. Good for blues, surf, jazz. Not sure if they're a shredder's delight, but really useful when you want a semi-bright, clean, sustained tone.

Comments about GHS Eric Johnson Signature Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I've played D'Addario 11's for as long as I can remember. I've also played on Carvin strings, Fender strings, Gibson strings, DR's... These strings by far take the cake. They aren't as rough as other strings (like a crossbreed between flatwounds and roundwounds.) and the tone on them is AMAZING. I love the thick thick low E and how good they feel to bend. I haven't had them their full life yet, but they really are a good string from what I can tell so far...and I'm a pretty picky guy. I'm still laughing at the guy that gave these a bad review. Oh, I have them on my Fender Strat. Using Carvin Electronics (hum/single/single).

Comments about GHS Eric Johnson Signature Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been playing light top/heavy bottom sets for many years but I was getting uncomfortable with the jump in tension between the G and D strings. This set is more balanced in that regard. The tension on the high strings is higher, but I'm OK with that. Most people would probably be more comfortable with the light gauge version of this set. Oh, and they sound really good too. Somehow they're mellower and brighter at the same time. Maybe it's more midrange that I'm hearing.

Comments about GHS Eric Johnson Signature Medium Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings just stole the soul of my Gibson SG! Totally lifeless and bad tone, couldn't wait till I just put them in the trash. I will never buy these worthless strings again. Get Boomers instead, they're just better.
