Comments about GHS GB8 1/2 Boomers Ultra Light+ Electric Guitar Strings:

Who ever heard of .0085" strings? I certainly had not, but when I built a Jazzmaster with a standard 25.5" scale neck instead of the 24.75" I've played for years, I was uncomfortable with the increased string tension. The .009" Ernie Ball Hybrid sets I usually play were too stiff for my liking on the longer scale. I tried EB .008"s, but they were kind of mushy feeling, at least to me. I needed to find strings that I could use on the Fender scale neck that would feel like the .009"s do on a Gibson 24.75" scale. These ghs .0085"s filled the bill nicely. I'll still use EB Hybrids on my short scale guitars, but for Fender scale, I've found my new favorites.

Comments about GHS GB8 1/2 Boomers Ultra Light+ Electric Guitar Strings:

Great strings. I nonetheless found that for ultra-light gauge, I prefer GBUL (.008-.38) Boomers. I generally play GBXL (.009-.42) Boomers.

I tried these because I have a guitar that felt tight with .009s. These strings solved that issue plus they feel & sound excellent. It didn't take long to adjust, either.

Comments about GHS GB8 1/2 Boomers Ultra Light+ Electric Guitar Strings:

Searching for a one-set-fits-all, these pretty much fill the requirements. May not be best for a heavy picker, and shorter scale guitars may get a buzz on 3rd G played near the nut frets due to the lighter gauge. These are also excellent for bending - even the wound strings can be pulled far beyond heavier gauge sets.

I don't like high string tension on a strat. After trying every custom gauge at standard and E flat standard I have found these, which are the perfect tension for my Eric Johnson strat (also bought from Musicians Friend ).Play smart, not hard.No need to play heavy gauge strings ,for me anyways ..

Using on my Gibson Les Paul custom tuing Eb playing through a Marshall amp with ultra distortion. Great tone, excellent for bending strings, playing fast and awesome harmonics. I play metal with a light touch...if you bash away at your strings...these strings aren't for you. They are excellent with my playing technique and equipment.

Comments about GHS GB8 1/2 Boomers Ultra Light+ Electric Guitar Strings:

Switched to GHS strings after using other brands for 15 years. I noticed that a set of Boomers would stay in tune better than the other brands & would hold up for an entire week (6 nights) when other brands wouldn't go much past four nights. However in those days I used 11-52. It took awhile before I tried the 9-42s but once there I used that gauge for 20 years. When they came out I tried a set of 8 1/2-40 & it made a great difference to me personally. I was pleased that I didn't lose any tone by going to a lighter gauge yet found them to be much easier to control for vibrato, bends, etc. I love 'em & use 'em for everything now. I wish GHS would come out with an all-nickel (Nickel Rockers, Burnished Nickel, etc.) in the 8 1/2-40 gauge.

I have a schecter C-1 pro which is like a C-1 artist.(25.5" Scale, fixed bridge, string through body.) Awesome guitar but the bends can be a little tough after a while no matter what string or set up that I tried. So I found a set of these GHS 8.5's and was amazed how they bend a little further but still felt like 9's. Strong sound. They last quite a while and seem to be the solution for this guitar and my aging hands.

I play lead guitar in a classic rock band. I injured my fretting hand in and industrial accident in '03 and hard a hard time after that with the 9-40's. The 8-38's were noodly and didn't stay in tune. The 8.5-40's hold the tone, stay in tune, take a beating, and are easy to bend. 25.5 scales are tighter--- most 24.75 are good. Every now and then a 24.75 will feel a little loose. The GHS seem to hold their tone and bite week after week, along with their strength. Used them for 10 years--- stickin' with them. A good deal.
