When I first started playing guitar, I used GHS Boomers but I was so inexperienced, I didn't know the differences between string brands and their construction. I was too busy learning how to play. As I got better, I switched to D'addarios because my teacher used them and gave me a couple sets. Fast forward 25 years...I recently tried the GHS Boomers custom lights (the .046 stays at better tension for my occasional drop D playing) and LOVED the tone. Maybe not as bright as the D'addarios initially are, but the D'ads seem to tarnish fast and their tone dies quicker. That seems to be happening a lot lately with the D'ads. Maybe different raw materials supplier? Who knows? But the GHS's have incredible tone, awesome harmonic content with excellent mids, plenty of bite and tight low end. I play hard rock and classic metal.

I also have found out that GHS Boomers are ROUND core strings vs. Hex core. The wrap wire makes contact with the entire core wire instead of just biting on the edges like on hex cores. This is the reason for the perceived boost in volume, awesome sustain, increased tonal/harmonic content, silky feel and easy bendability. They still have plenty enough tension for my heavy handed pick attack. Whatever their formula is for the alloy they use seems to be a difference too. More magnetically active I guess. Whatever the mojo is... they're AWESOME strings. One of my "secret weapons".

Do NOT dismiss these as "beginners strings" as I've heard some people call them. Visit their site and see their roster of artists. I mean Eric Johnson (KING of tone) uses GHS, as does Dave Mustaine, although a different kind. Haven't broken one yet and have had this set on for about 3 weeks and the tone is JUST now starting to noticeably fade. But I play a couple of hours a day. So, not too shabby! I won't say they should NEVER break because that's unrealistic. But so far, so good.

These strings are such a beating--The sound was fine but I spent as much time replacing them as I did playing them (at least the e/b/g-strings)--I am not a "string pounder" and yet I just broke my freaking 8th string in seven days. I got ten packs of them a couple of months ago thinking it would be more than I would need for a few months and I've already burned through most of them--maybe I just got a bad batch--I remember GHS being reputable back in the day but the ones I ended up with SUCKED! What a waste of cashish.

Comments about GHS GBCL Boomers Custom Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I use GHS custom light strings on 4 of my guitars. They seem to hold their tone and stay in tune as well as any other strings. I have tried other more expensive strings when I could not find these and was not happy with them. Will stick with GHS CL strings.

Comments about GHS GBCL Boomers Custom Light Electric Guitar Strings:

Others have said most of this (except the "one star" guy who raved about them! Huh?) I've been playing for ***ahem*** five decades and GHS are simply the best. I play classic rock and blues, and these give a beefy lower end with the extra light gauge on top. I won't play anything else.

                I was looking for sustained

I even decided to put some on my

good too this is a good choice.

I have been playing electric guitar since 1967. I've played numerous different brands of string since then but since I settled on Boomers I have never looked back. They sound better, for a longer period of time, and I have only had a set or two which hand a bad string in them. I have used hundreds of their string sets so, out of that, 2 or 3 bad strings is an incredible percentage.

VHS Boomers are the one thing I don't have to worry about for a show. I've been using them foe thirty years. I can count on them. When I'm playing " Mr. Bojangles with Jerry Jeff, I want to sound good, and I don't want to break a string!
