I know that everyone's likes/dislikes, preferences, and gear differ very greatly. The last 20 years I had used nothing but medium GHS Boomers. Recently I decided to try out their heavyweights. For me personally, these strings are the best I've ever used. They sound amazing in any tuning and really beef up chords. The best thing about them in my experience and gear is that they keep their tension even when tuned very low, which is obviously one of the reasons why GHS created them in the first place. Really good string tension has proven to be a major factor in overall sound quality in addition to my hatred of loose and floppy strings. So, these might not work for everyone and their respective gear, but to me they have been absolutely amazing. A whole new realm of tone.

The .070" barely fit through the tuning peg on my jackson kvx10! the GHS website says these are designed for A to A standard tuning on a 25" scale so dont buy these if you are only tuning down 1 or 2 steps. I am tuned down 2 steps, sometimes to drop Bb, and the action is REALLY high and the floyd rose system does not help. the bridge is flush and the two allen screws are as low as they can go. im not going to turn my truss rod the 3 complete turns it probably needs because im putting on normal strings in a few weeks.id only recommend using these on a real baritone that is tuned A to A or lower. If you are only going to drop C, 10-52s are fine so dont use these.

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Custom Lo-Tune Electric Guitar Strings Heavy:

These strings are awesome. I started out at 10-52 tuned D-standard, and they were too light, they got muddy at that tuning, so I moved up to the 10-60 set which I fell in love with and played for several years, with the 11-70's for drop C. Just recently, within the past year or two, I started using the 11-70's for D-standard and just fell in love with them all over again. I have them in my mahogany V with Dimarzio X2N's and they sound amazing. Perfect for heavy rhythm and even moreso for soloing, they really get you to hold onto the string for dear life and will improve your vibrato the longer you play them. I play progressive metal and like to try different tunings, and these strings are perfect for the low stuff, I've gone as low as drop G and they still maintained clarity.

These strings offer the tonal qualities that are needed for the hard/modern rock genre. They can be taxing on the hands, but if you work your way up to them you will not want anything else. These are strings for professional players and not for the weak handed or leisurely guitar player.

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Custom Lo-Tune Electric Guitar Strings Heavy:

I was wowed when I threw these on. Clarity, definition, but most of all, a booming bottom end that's great for chugging rhythm. Don't worry, the high strings still sound good, but these are really for just all-out destruction and loads of potent gain. Check these babies out!

Made a world of difference in drop tuning

      By stratkat

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Custom Lo-Tune Electric Guitar Strings Heavy:

These makes my epi les paul classic sound as close to a 7-string as a 6-string guitar can get. I was a little put off by how thick they were at first, but when I plugged in and tuned it to drop-C, (which usually sounded to low/sloppy,) and it sounded amazing (but evem still a little high.) Right now I have it in drop-A with a lot of gain, I can't believe they made such a huge difference. I've had them on for about 10 minutes, the only problem I have is that upstokes are awkward when I'm sweeping or alternate picking, but I think I'll overcome that once I get used to it.

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Custom Lo-Tune Electric Guitar Strings Heavy:

I use the GHS .10-.60 set on my LTD Viper-401fm and the .11-.70 set on my LTD-F-400fm and with these two guitars I can cover just about any tuning from D standard to drop G# with optimum string-tension and it's all due to the quality and versatility of these strings. I've tried several different brands of strings over the years and I've not found another brand of string that matches GHS in terms of tone, durability and lifespan. These strings will keep their tone a very long time and will resist rust and corrosion for months if you take care of them and use some fast fret on them fairly regularly. A previous review said that GHS recommends these strings for A - A tuning on a 25.5 scale guitar so keep that in mind. I keep my guitar (25.5 scale) tuned to drop-A, occasionally tuning as high as B standard, but I'm afraid to tune it any higher. All that being said - BE ADVISED: The .70 bottom on this set of strings will probably require some minor modifications to be made to your guitar. I had file out the nut, widen the string-hole on my tuning peg with a dremmel tool and file a slightly wider groove into the saddle so the string wouldn't slip off. If you're hesitant to do these modifications yourself take it to a local guitar shop and have them set it up for you. It may cost you a few bucks but it's worth it.

These are heavy. I had to drill out my Schaler tuner peg just so the .70 could fit through. But they sound great. Might be too heavy gauge for 25 1/2" scale length guitars.

I needed a set for low B tuning on my Les Paul. These strings work the best for me. They have a tight sound on the basses which provide excellent definition. I use them with a Duncan Custom.

As with any major tuning change, you will need to set up the guitar properly. Relief, action, and intonation will need to be checked and changed, which is time consuming with these strings. Trebles are really light and basses are really thick, so you will need to get used to them. Once you do, it's an awesome ride!!!

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Custom Lo-Tune Electric Guitar Strings Heavy:

Finally some strings thick enough for drop B and lower that aren't twice the cost.
One thing to be careful of though, is that the 70 gauge might not fit through your tuning peg. On my les paul I had to widen the peg a tiny bit with a drill in order for it to fit through.
These strings sound great: the thickness of them really adds to a heavier tone. I play in drop A# and they aren't floppy at all. The range from super skinny to really thick takes a bit of getting used to, but its kind-of nice when you are accustomed to it.
I think thats about all I can say about these. I love them, and will continue to buy them. I recommend them for people tuned under Drop B.

I've found these strings to do the best job for me. I play my Fender Strat hard, and these strings hold up the best under the hard strumming and chopping way that I play. They hold tuning very well and, certainly because of their size, last quite a long time for me.

I bought these strings being a zakk wylde fan and now these are my favorite strings! they give so much more tone and low end compared the ghs tnts I have on my les paul and more chunky palm muted distortion. You'll most likely have to have the nut widened on your guitar but it's totally worth it!

Its hard to find strings for guys like myself who play in low tuning. Its even harder to find a GOOD set of strings designed for low tuning. This is it, friends, a nice thick gauge and a fairly bright sound. I find that the thicker gauges make it a little bit easier for faster picking.

Well I've been playing the guitar for close to 9 years, and frankly all the other strings I played were not even close to these. Forever I used Ernie Ball, but they would crap out when my band would play Db, C, or B. Don't bother with getting the 60's gauge, go right for the 70's, theres more punch and low end in the 70's, and over all an explosion of sound from the boomers. They rock and check them out, you'll fall in love with them! check out my band: Evade Fate

These strings are awesome if you like tuning low. Before these I've always used DR 11-52s and always had trouble speed picking, becuase I play in drop B, and they were way to floppy. But now with these, there is hardly any floppieness, no matter how hard and fast you pick. And the tone is just frickin' heavy. They also make it very easy to hit pinch harmonics. So if you like to tune way down, check these out.

Well if you cared at all about tone you probably wouldn't be looking for strings bearing the name of Zakk Wylde. Seeing how your going to drench it in distortion and make ridiculous artificial harmonics who cares. Well I however am one who is annoyed by the dull flat tone of strings. Figured I would buy these cuz I like using drop c / drop b tunings and don't like flapping strings. These strings could not hold a tune and they could not hold tone they were flat from second one . I took elixers off to put these on and I must say it was quite the let down . Go for real quality not ghs or DR, the worst 2 types of strings I've ever used.

I use these on my 6 and 7 string guitars. I use standard tuning to down 1 step. I get soo much power out of it, the guitar is actually a lot louder with these strings. The thing I like most about the heavier strings is when you are picking hard and fast, they don't budge. Excellent strings.
