After trying a few different brands and gauges of strings over a five year period I have finally found the perfect brand/set of strings for playing in C# and drop-B tunings. I started out playing Ernie Ball sets on a 25.5 scale guitar in standard tuning but when I began experimenting with down-tuning I found the EB sets to be lacking in tone and definition the lower I tuned my guitar not to mention constantly breaking my low E string. When I switched to playing a 24 3/4 scale guitar in C# and drop-B I had to start looking for a new set of strings because the EB "not even slinky" sets I had been using just were not cutting it. I tried Dean Markley Blue Steel .13's with a wound 3rd string and found the top strings to be cumbersome and the low .56 still not heavy enough for dropping the low E to B. I went to every single music shop in town looking for a light top/extremely heavy bottom set and I finally ran across the GHS .10 - .60 set on sale, two for the price of one. Perfect! These strings last forever. If you use some GHS Fast Fret on them they keep their tone better than any other brand of string I've tried and I have yet to break a string in the year or so I've been using the GHS .10-.60 sets. The tone is fantastic and they sound great on a mahogony/maple body guitar with EMG pickups. It does take some getting used to the difference in string gauge between the low and high strings but it didn't take me long to learn to adjust my pick attack for the lighter strings on the top end. If you know how to set up your guitar for heavy gauge strings get 'em and go to town! If not I would highly recommend you take your guitar to a guitar/music shop and have it set up by a pro. Oh, for you kids out there: these strings are NOT meant for standard tuning and they will not make you sound like Zakk Wylde but they might make you a better guitarist if used as intended. I now use GHS strings on all my electric guitars.

I have tried all kinds of strings for the past 15 years. The most consistent brand for me is GHS. I am a big fan of Ozzy and Zakk's music. When I heard about these strings, I'd thought I would give it a try. They are way too thick. Even for dropped D and C tuning! You don't need this thick set of strings to get Zakk's sound. It's HIS custom made set to suit his needs for guitar playing. To get his sound you need to buy his pedals, either an Epiphone or his own Les Paul, and a quality amp. You may not get it exact, because it would cost you thousands to buy all of his exact equipment. The only good thing about them is that they stay in tune when you are playing in dropped tuning. A warning: these strings are made for dropped tuning only.

These work well for Eb tunings on all scale length guitars and also for Db standard on 25 1/2" scale length guitars.

I just put these on my king v and man! The low e is massive, power chords are so thick and ballsie yet you lose nothing on the high end of the fretboard. If you want strings that can chunk it up, sing, scream & yet stay true to tone these are YOUR strings! thanks zakk & ghs

These strings are ok at best. I was excited to see how they sounded when I got home from my local shop. THEY SOUND HORRIBLE. Do not buy these strings unless you are ready to modify the nut on your guitar because the bottom string is massive. I modified the action and the neck of my guitar and I still get enormous amounts of buzz. The only way that I cant get buzz is to play in standard tuning (what I'm using now cuz I haven't bought anymore strings yet.) I usually play Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky and I think that its gonna stay that way. Buy EB or Elixir!

I use this sting on my SG and it turns it into a Metal beast. I can drop all the way to #A and still have great, buzz-free tone. Great job ghs. I only use these strings on sg because my strat's tuners are to small to hold these beasts!

These strings are amazing and are great for dropped tunings. You may have to get a new nut if you use lighter strings but worth it. However I only recommend these strings to serious low tune players.

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Electric Guitar Strings Light Top:

I have used several different types of guitar strings in my 9 years of playing, and these are by FAR the most AMAZING sounding strings I have ever used on my Samick Fastback. My tone has so much more of a snap I was able to cut my gain in half and get an even punchier sound. They seem very thick at first, but once you get used to them (give it 3 weeks or so), they are great. They are very versatile for tuning (from standard to low A for me). As far as soling, as long as you have decent finger strength you will be able to solo on these. Word top the wise: I recommend a thick (at least 1mm) pick for soloing on these bad boys).Overall, absolutely amazing. I might try the 11-70 set too...

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Electric Guitar Strings Light Top:

For the past few years ive stuck to my usual Ernie Balls. However, after my friend told me about the Boomers, I decided to go out and try them out on my guitar. They have the best quality for lower than normal tuning that I have ever used.

The best strings I have ever used!

By Doomsayer_Vox

Comments about GHS Heavyweight Boomers Electric Guitar Strings Light Top:

I recently bought these strings, and I am amazed at how deep the low end is and how screachingly high the high end is. I just love the flexibility I have now. Before I was using some crap strings that lost their tone in a week or 2. But these strings, after almost a month, have kept the same tone they had when I first bought them. I would recommend these to any serious guitarist.
