GHS JD Crowe's: A Clear Winner

Comments about GHS J. D. Crowe Studio Signature 5-String Banjo Strings Light:

Folk's, I've tried many brands and gauges of banjo strings, but the strings that I've found to be superior to all the rest are GHS JD Crowe's. As far as tone, clarity, playability and longevity go, there just isn't anything better out there. Everybody has their own gauge preference, but I like the lights. The 11 and 12 gauged 2nd and 3rd really allow you to do some bending.Definitely the best banjo strings on the market in my opinion.

Comments about GHS J. D. Crowe Studio Signature 5-String Banjo Strings Light:

I started using these strings a few years back.I have been using GHS strings on my electric guitars since the 70's. I use GHS strings on about everything I play. I like how GHS strings last. This J D Crowe set has a good feel and tone for me that I like. GHS strings will last a long time and for those who are familiar with bluegrass music know that you need strings that will be tough enough to handle all those all night jam sessions at festivals. Some jam sessions start early in the evening and go till the sun comes up the next morning. This is a testing ground for strings and so far GHS is the one brand that can handle what I put em through. For normal playing, you will get great tone from these strings on any banjo.

Comments about GHS J. D. Crowe Studio Signature 5-String Banjo Strings Light:

The strings were great -- however, the middle G string was a little too light for me - I didn't get the "sound" I wanted. I ended up putting another slightly heavier G string on from another set and that worked for me. I like the rest of the strings and will probably order a different arrangement of weights next time.
