Love the old pure nickle wrap strings. I have been using SOB strings for several years, and these Big Core strings are the best I have played to date. Not as bright as modern nickle plated steel strings, initially, but they stay consistant, not for days, nor weeks, but months. Really!!. I have them on three of my main players for over 4 months. I do wipe my strings down after I play, without fail, always.
I've used almost every brand of string available with .009-.042, .009-.046, .010-.044, 10-48 sets. The .010's have always been a tad too much for the way I play but the .009's just don't seem to be enough. I was using the D'addario .009-.044 set until I found these. They feel great, have a terrific tone for everything from country twang to metal, and last. You've really gotta try these things!
No other string I have used bends and sustains like these. Very good blue sounds comes off these strings.
I was introduced to these fine strings when I won three sets of these as part of the Grand Prize winner in the GHS/Santana Giveaway! First off Santana rocked in concert! Derek Trucks was the warm-up act and this kid can flat out play guitar! Let me tell you, these are great strings! They are very responsive and hold a wonderful tone for a long time! They have easily become my string of choice. Try a set and I'm sure you'll agree!!
I've been playing 40 years, using everything from the old Black diamonds to the current latest & Greatest. 3 pack sets are the best deal and since buying several dozen sets, and used on three of my personal guitars and giving sets to fello players, it's unanimous. Big Core + Big Tone. Even better the outlast anything on the market. Not as bright as nickle plated steel at first, but they maintain that tone, consistantly. Do your tone a favor, try a set.
Put these to the test over the last two years...now using them on all my guitars...the 9.5-43's work great and last a long time with no breakage...a little heavier than 9-42's which give them some really clean tonal sounds with plenty of bass...they are not as hard to bend as 10-46's...my 5 Strats really love'em...as do my Tele...also use the heavier Santana 10.5-48's on my Jag, Jazzmaster and Acoustic-electric...great strings and not just because Santana signed off on them (although I must admit that's why I tried them in the first place)...
