Hard drum throne surfaces can be very uncomfortable and difficult to endure for extended periods of time. Without solid support and comfort, a drummer's style and creativity can be severely impaired.

Gibraltar's Softy Throne incorporates a top-grade 5"-thick cushion and an outer layer of plush Cordura fabric creating a soft and comfortable sitting surface. After playing at a certain height for approx 35+ years with a throne I got when I was 17. I needed something tall. I sold the original throne I had and bought a Roc N Sox. I figured I'd get a killer throne. It was great except it sat a few inches lower than I was used to. I ended up making a riser just for my throne to bring me back up to height. Well I sold that after a year or so and bought a cheap throne. Still too low. So I started looking online for anything that sat over 24". I found this one with Extra Height if I needed it! A guy at a drum shop told me about me about the SOFTY version of the seat. I was sold. When I 1st got it it seemed a bit hard for having 5" of foam but I figured it would get broken in with use. On my 1st gig it did not seem too hard at all but just right! Most of the gig I did not even think about it, that was how natural it felt! Very sturdy base too. I did not give it 5 starts cause of the weight. It is not light. But I would Highly Recommend it! It's Awesome! Rock on, Dale W.

I own their Oversized Motorcycle Throne and its very soft and comfortable but bought this throne to tour with since its smaller but so far it's like sitting on a brick with cloth on it.

Comments about Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne:

I bought this throne after almost 20 years on a heavy duty Gibraltar motorcycle style throne. My old throne was good, but I started to feel like the foam was getting compressed and not supporting me enough (my behind went numb by the end of the night). The old throne also had a strange memory lock thing for the height adjustment that would loosen up in my bag, causing the throne to be at a random height every time I took it out of the bag. I also got tired of having to look down to turn the throne the right way to sit on it, since it is uncomfortable to sit on a motorcycle throne the wrong way.

This new throne is super comfortable. The seat is extra padded and I feel like I am sitting on a very sturdy seat. I was surprised how big the feet are on this throne. The base is very heavy duty (almost too heavy) and it will not creep on you no matter what happens.

The only con that I can think of is that Gibraltar ships this throne with their standard height base, which means that the lowest setting actually feels much higher than a regular throne. I am 5' 6" so I have it on the lowest setting and I'm already thinking about shelling out for the short throne base just to be able to lower it down that extra couple of inches. This sucks because now I will have spent a total of almost $200 when I could have just bought another popular brand (initials are PP) of extra thick padded throne for only $150. Gibraltar needs to get on the ball and ship this thing with the short base to start with.

          Great Throne

          By dw keller

Comments about Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne:

This has everything you want in a seat. It is very comfortable and easy to move around on gigs. Not to mention that the price is good for what you get. The first sit is stiff but it gets worked in. I have had this for a few months and it kills in every feature. If you have a good seat, you can play for hours without pain or soreness to your back end. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good throne.

          My keyboard seating solution!

          By Scott Thomas

          from New York City

Comments about Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne:

I'm an old key learning to play piano/keyboards; a couple of hours seated at the instrument was stressing my back & backside. The Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne has solved all problems for me.

The Softy is extremely comfortable and stable, It is infinitely adjustable between approx. 20" to 28" height AND you can swivel or lock-in your perfect keyboard position. The padded top is terrific & won't cut off the circulation in the back of the legs. This is the perfect keyboard seating solution for me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for anyone.
Adjusts to 28" high, swivels, allows position-lock, portable, very stable legs with large, non-slip "feet" and the Gibraltar Softy has a wonderfully cushioned seat that will handle even heavy adults.
Relatively light yet strong; very solidly contstructed.
There are cheaper thrones but the Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne is maximum bang for the buck.

All I can say is my backside in not sore after playing for three hours. With my old throne that was a nightly occurrence. Also very sturdy and easy to adjust. Would recommend over more expensive thrones with more bells and whistles.

Comments about Gibraltar Softy Drum Throne:

Throne is very sturdy, very comfortable. Typically, using my old throne, my rear was quite sore from sitting at the end of a four hour gig. Not anymore! As others have mentioned, the seat sits rather tall even on lowest setting. I'm 6'2" tall and it works well for me set almost as low as it goes. I am very happy with the throne!

Good throne, but it didn't see anywhere in the description how low it went. I like to play with my thighs about parallel to the floor and it wouldn't me get that low. I'm 5'11'', and i needed it to go down about another 2 to 3 inches. I sent it back. I feel a throne is something you need to try in person before buying, like shoes.

This is my second throne. My other throne is a DW. When I was shopping for a throne I was considering getting a Pork Pie. But I settled on this one because it also has a soft seat and and was cheaper. I like this throne better than my DW. My DW loosens up a lot more than this one does. It is really comfortable. It takes a little while to break in. At first it seemed too high but after breaking it in I raised the seat a half inch and it is perfect now.

This is a very comfortable "round" throne. It fits in my trap case easily. Very heavy duty like all Gibrator 9600 series gear. The thick, threaded bar makes seat height adjustment precise and solid and a memory lock to keep it where you want it.I gave it a 4.5 on features because there are a few round throne seats a little thicker and more comfortable. But they're$40-60 more.

Great for players with bad backs. Very sturdy and well built. Do not spend your money on a more expensive throne this one does it all.
