Patent-Applied-For sound and wax potted to fight pickup squeal.

The Gibson '57 Classic Humbucking pickup for the neck position is a reproduction of the original Gibson Humbucker from the late 1950’s. In those days, Gibson did not build separate pickups in those days for Neck and Bridge, they used the same pickup for both. To best replicate the “Gibson PAF”, guitarists should put a '57 Classic in the Neck and Bridge positions. It is actually for both. For more modern sounds, the '57 Classic in the neck can be paired with the '57 Classic Plus in the bridge. The guitar pickup features Gibson's special Alnico II magnet, wax potted to fight high-volume feedback squeal; vintage enamel-coated wire; nickel-plated pole pieces; nickel slugs; maple spacers; and vintage-style, 2-conductor, braided wiring.

    Features

    • Special Alnico II magnet
    • Vintage enamel-coated wire
    • Nickel-plated pole pieces
    • Nickel slugs
    • Maple spacers

Get back to that vintage sound, JoJo. Order this Gibson humbucker today.

All Les Pauls Need '57 Classics

My rig is simple: Gibson LP to Morley wah to Marshall JCM800 50-watt w/ Tophat 2x12 Celestion "greenbacks" cab. My two Gibson '59 LP Standard flametop reissues have '57 Classics and I love 'em. The horrible 498T and 490R humbucking pickups that come on most Gibson LP Studios and Standards are far too "bitey," like dragging your teeth across a chalkboard. Thus, I've replaced 498T's and 490R's with '57 Classics on 2 Gibson LP's, and also put them on an Ibanez "lawsuit" Rocket Roll V and Ibanez '77 Les Paul. 57 Classics have phenomenally sweet tone even at low volume and still roar at high volume. Will give you the desirable harmonic feedback and sustain through a Marshall, not that ghastly microphonic squeak. (By the way, put Groove Tubes on your Marshall!) Gibson should install '57 Classics on all their LP's and dump the 498T and 490R.

I've owned a set of these pickups for over 3 years. I've had them in my Heritage H-555 semi-hollow body electric guitar, and I find them very muddy. I am playing through a vintage Fender amps, which are pretty bright, but these p/u's sound like someone put a blanket over my amp. Low output, very dull and muddy.

    Classic PAF

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

This replaced the stock burstbucker pro alnico v neck pickup in my gibson les paul standard plus. The stock alnico v neck was too bassy and powerful even after lowering height. This pickup tamed the bass and cleaned up the sound. Great pickup! The search is finally over.

    Good sounding pickups.
Faithful to the original humbucker sound.
    Top of the heap.
    A little pricey.

    One of the best!!

    By AngolaJonno

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

I have one of these in the neck of my les paul. And I installed a set in a customer's Epiphone Sheraton II. This is one of the best pickups on the market. It is super clear and clean, but very warm without being muddy. That being said. I feel that they are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY over priced. There are other pickups out there that are very similar in tone, and cost about a quarter of the price. So if you want "that" tone, get these. If you want similar tone for less, get DiMarzio PAF Pro.

    excellent pickups

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

I upgraded the pickups in an epiphone sheraton/335 and these really make a difference. Bought the pickups from MF, and the local tech that did the install also upgraded the pots, caps, and wiring. couldn't afford the real gibson 335, but these upgrades get it real close.

    Like butter to my ears!

    By SharkAtl

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

I dropped a pair of these humbucker pups into my PRS Se Singlecut to try to ge a little more of a clean tone to the guitar. Loved the sound of the original pups, but just wanted less of the crunch and more of the soul. These things sound fantastic!! Very smooth and clean tone to them. I decided to use the Classif 57 in both the bridge and neck pups, as I did not have a real need for the crunch of the 57 Classic Plus. I am very happy I decided to make this switch! This was the exact sound I was looking for. In fact, it has caused me to hold off upgrading my SE Singlecut to a PRS DGT model for a little while.

    believe the good reviews

    By RockNBlues

    from Detroit

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

I was skeptical despite all the good reviews that the 57 Classic was that much better than all the modern humbuckers. Believe it. Smooth, full sound that can go from mellow to intense with a turn of the volume knob. I installed a 57 Classic in the neck position of my SG Standard and it sings now like it never did before.

    classic!

    By moses2112

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

when i told everyone in my band i was putting this pickup on my ibanez they all thought i was crazy! but it sounds beautiful, just like a gibson. i have this in the bridge position, it was a pain to get it to work right because the outside of the wire was the other part of the wire, so you need to make sure its not touching anything before you start playing. i bought this for one reason: alex lifeson uses it and man oh man do rush tunes sound great on it, its great for blues and classic rock so if that your kind of music, get it

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

I recently installed one of these in the neck position my my Agile LP. WOW!! these pickups spew vintage tones from another era. I was able to get really good Clapton BluesBreakers era sounds, as well as good Cream and Zep tones. Put one of these in the neck and pop a 57 Classic+ in the bridge and you'll be set for life. Good for blues, classic rock and jazz. Metal heads think twice.

This came stock in the neck position of my Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom (a limited run of Les Pauls in 2007), along with a '57 Classic Plus in the bridge, and the sound is simply AMAZING! Go buy one and put in the neck position!

    Great Classic Pickup

    By Mr.Todd

    from Chicago

Comments about Gibson '57 Classic Humbucker Neck Pickup:

First off let me say that just like you, I too have felt pressure to put some super hot distortion factory humbucker in my Gibson. In fact, I had to secretly go behind the backs of my guitar buddies when purchasing and installing these in my new Gibson SG special. I decided to actually get online and review a product from tonight's practice. We had a personnel issue in our band which resulted in me cramming a 16 song set into a week's worth of rehearsal on my SG ( I was going to be playing drums). Not only does the other guitarist LOVE my tone but I was even surprised at the tone when I couldn't use the old tube amp. I practiced out of a little fender solid state combo tonight and it sounded great. These pickups are awesome when paired with the SG. They have such a rockin tone when played through the tube (clean and distorted). Please do your tone a favor and pick up the 57's!
