Comments about Gibson Modern Gold Machine Heads:

My double cutaway gold top Les Paul cried out when I had to drill 2 of the 6 shaft holes a little bit. I put masking tape on it before I drilled, so as not to burr the finish around the edges. It had come with the Kluson plastic tulips, which look all vintage and everything, but would *not* stay tuned...especially the 3rd string. These all-metal tulips stay in tune, and have a more 'satisfying' feel (gear ratio). They also only have one wood-screw hole, so the top hole from each Kluson (they had 2 screws) is just visible on the back of my headstock above each tuner. I'm the only one who notices. I'm glad I made this upgrade to my guitar; it looks great, and--more importantly--my strings don't constantly slip anymore. If you own a Gibson w/ Klusons and they slip, I think it's worth the effort to drill (if necessary) and install these. You could even fill the barely-visible screw-holes on the back, if you were so inclined....

Not a fit for '74 20th Anniversary LP Customs

By John Burgum

from Wash DC area

Comments about Gibson Modern Gold Machine Heads:

I bought these hoping to put them on my '74 White LP Custom - 20th Anniversary, and the screw on these machine heads at 6:00 o'clock, whereas on the OEM machine heads, the screw is at 5:00 or 7:00 - off center. By all accounts, these are great tuners, but they will not work on the '74 Custom without drilling the headstock, which for me is a deal breaker.

Works on Epiphones

By SmoothD

Comments about Gibson Modern Gold Machine Heads:

I just wanted to write this review to any Epiphone owners know that I was able to install these on my Epiphone Sheraton II with no modifications whatsoever. They look beautiful and hold a tuning much better than the stock epiphone machine heads.

Save $2000.00 !!!

Comments about Gibson Modern Gold Machine Heads:

If you own a Les Paul Studio, installing these tuners will make your guitar the equal of a Custom Shop LP with the exception of the brighter sounding ebony fretboard and overpriced eye candy. These are the tuners found on all top of the line Gibsons.
