When I put my guitar in this case for the first time one of the latches didn't fit right, but that was easyly fixed. It also was offset so the latches wouldn't fit right, but it fixed it self after leaveing it closed with the guitar in it for a while. Also it put a scratch on my guitar when I put in for the first time. Fits alright, it will proabably mold better to my gutiar over time. It is a pretty flexy case, but it seems like it would protect just fine. The Leather handle is a nice touch, and so is the big " Gibson USA" sencil. The case is VERY Light and small, has lots of storage space, and seems like it fits very well. One thing I also liked about this case is that the way the guitar fits in, it makes it so the headstock is suspended in air, and the tuners don't touch anything. Stays in perfict tune. Recomended case, a little expencive but I think it would be worth the extra case compaired to the Epi case.

I have to agree with the others that were disappointed in the quality of this case. Does Gibson really expect a quality piece (and it's hefty price tag) like the classic SG to be happy residing in this case? Mine arrived with the Tolex peeling off at one seam and parts of the inner plush lining that had never been glued down. The exterior is flimsy and should not be used for travel if you love your axe. Some seams & edging are downright crooked and the lock & hardware are just plain cheap. (Locks always crack me up on guitar cases anyway - a real theif would just walk off with the whole case and deal with the "lock" later.) The best part of this item is the Gibson logo, which will only better serve to let said theif know exactly what's in that pricey case! My advice? Pick up a less expensive case and slap a Gibson logo decal on it if you must. Your SG will never know the difference.

    The gibson SG case

    By niknaker1

    from Old Hickory, Tn.

I bought one for my sons Gibson SG. I had the privelege to look over 3 of them and this one was really a nice one. I can see where someone might get a bad one but mine was well represented. A bit pricey but it does go with a Gibson SG.

Update on May 3, 2007 review

    By Peter S Hickey

    from Tempe, AZ

I went to get my '61 RI out to practice this evening. In the process, the case fell against an exposed metal surface on my wheelchair. I expected a tear in the Tolex. I was horrified to see that a hole had been punched right through the case wall. I can only thank the guitar gods that my precious SG was missed and undamaged. This would not have happened with high-impact plastic or plywood, telling me that this case, while it may have a wood frame, essentially has cardboard walls. I will immediately order an SKB SG case as I cannot trust the well-being of one of my most prized possessions to this overpriced piece of junk. Neither can you if you at all value your instrument. Shame on Gibson for putting its name on this thing. A gig bag would be just as much protection and a lot easier to handle.

    Don't Be Fooled

    By NAMxxSGxx9

I've had this case for about 2 years and it is great. Right up until my Epiphone SG was in it and it took a 2-foot drop and snapped the headstock off. The case was locked up and closed properly and it still broke. Luckily we sent it in to the headquarters and they replaced it with a brand new Epiphone SG. Good for not getting dents, nicks, and scratches, but don't drop it.

    Box it came in?

    By Ski-n1l-Q

    from Seattle

I hate to be the one person that's goes against what everyone else says but... What was the best case you ever had - the box it came in? Everyone raves how this is "the case" to get. What the heck are the other ones like? I have ten or so cases and many have cost less than this one or were included in the price of the guitar. I feel this cost a bit much for what it is. Tolex? my experience has been that Tolex is like a heavy vynil or nagahide -what is this stuff ? the paper version - Tolex lite - the photographic version of wood paneling - self adhesive shelf liner - the "interior use only" of outdoor carpe? The case is strong and well padded but the exterior is not worth the premium price. My favorite feature-the big Gibson USA stencil on top with the "Case made in Canada" sticker right next to it.

Nice try, but needs better hardware

    By Avatar Sound

    from Salem, MA

This case is designed to fit very snugly around your SG, and I expected high quality work. I noted the plastic skin of the case was punctured by ill fitting metal latches. Once I shoehorned my guitar into the case, I found I could not get the latches to close without taking out a plyers and bending them so the "tooth" would fit into the slot. The metal of the latches was lightweight and flimsy. I think that this is the achilles heel of this case is this hardware. Everything else is fine.If I had it to do over again, I would choose a different case.

Slightly overpriced but an otherwise fine case

    By Rickindenver

    from Denver, CO

Before buying, I was slightly concerned that the other reviews were positive early and less positive lately (was quality declining?) I'm happy to report that this is a fine case. Yes, the hardware isn't the greatest I've seen, but it is more than adequate and is well-aligned between case and lid. My SG Classic fit perfectly into the case and the keys were properly suspended so as not to affect tuning. If I have a complaint, it is that the case has a rotating combination lock, but does not come with instructions on how to set your combination! I'm going to email Gibson about this!!

    Not Bad

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

This case came with my gibson sg standard and im impressed no scratches resulted from use of this case and the silk screen that covers the guitar doesnt completely cover my guitar but not a big deal the leather is a nice feature the only major concern that I have is it being stolen considering the GIBSON USA logo on the outside and locks arent going to stop a theif from taking my baby but can save it from children or siblings nice sturdy case a little expensive but worth the money for protecting my guitar.
