I recently purchased a Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst from MF. One thing I read several times in the reviews was that you need to put new strings on a new guitar. Seemed odd since the strings were presumably new but I decided to buy the 10 ga. Gibson strings since that is what came with the guitar. I could not believe the difference it made, the tone, ring and clarity with the new strings was incredible. I suppose the original strings had lost their edge since they were new when the guitar was manufactured but probably sat in a warehouse for a while before the guitar was shipped. One thing I found out is that you have to call MF's toll free number in order to get the discounts they offer when purchasing some manufacture's items, including Gibson's. If you try to order them online it shows that you get the discount but the price doesn't change. My experience with the call center staff at MF has always been excellent, they are very friendly and helpful. And to be honest I would rather speak with a real person than do an impersonal online order anyway.

Better tone AND action...

Comments about Gibson Vintage Reissue 3-Pack VR10 Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings came standard on my LP 58 Custom Shop Reissue. Decided to try 'em on my vintage reissue 62 Strat and 52 Tele as well. True enough, they do seem to help round out the tone of these vintage single coil pickups superbly, especially the bridge. And I guess nickel strings like these are a bit softer than modern steel or nickel-plated steel strings. Consequently they seem easier on your fingers and reduce fret wear (especially on Fenders which seem to be more prone to this than Gibsons). They also maintain their tone quite well even after many hours of aggressive play and don't seem to break easily. But I keep 'em very clean, oil my guitar neck constantly, use a flexible pick and don't do a lot of radical bending so I'm probably not the typical player in that respect. I also feel that using these strings can allow you to achieve lower action without fret buzz, resulting in better playability and improved intonation. That's a bonus others have not mentioned, but I really think it's true. They're pricey, hence the 4.0 value rating, but I'm willing to pay more for the perceived benefits. BTW, if you buy these at Guitar Center, make sure you price match 'em online because they are usually listed higher over the counter.

The REAL McCoy

Gibson Vintage Reissue 3pk VR 10 Electric Guitar Strings

My Gibson Les Paul Studio & Epiphone Les Paul Custom both shipped new with these strings and as the saying goes, "you dance with the one who brought you!"
These strings are the MOST comfortable and best sounding I've ever played.
They stay in tune and the intonation is "spot on".
Being a Contemporary Christian guitarist, my playing is not very extreme. I take very good care of my equipment, and these strings have lasted the longest of any others I've tried (EB's DR's).
As other reviews have noted, they may seem a little pricey, but a thousand dollar guitar deserves The Best and these strings are It. Forget the others and go with these, you've tried the rest, now go with The Best!
Could be priced a little lower : )

Ask me a question

Comments about Gibson Vintage Reissue 3-Pack VR10 Electric Guitar Strings:

A friend gave me a set of these and said I had to try them. They sat around a couple weeks until I decided to try them on my MIM beater Strat. I changed one at a time while plugged in to hear a difference. Indeed there was, there was a clarity to the new strings I could hear with each one I replaced. It wasn't just the fact they were new, the set on the guitar were new also, I just wanted to see if there was a difference. Almost all those unwanted overtones were gone, a little less bright but in a good way. I used Ernie Ball regular's for years because they were easy to bend but these bend easy also, they feel even more silky. I ordered 9 sets right away, I own 40+ guitars but changed strings on some of my main players and it improved the sound greatly, especially on my '73 LP Deluxe. They cost more but are worth it, it's like putting cheap gas in a $30,000 car, you have a $1000+ guitar so 8 bucks for a set of strings is nominal for such an improvement in sound. Been playing over 40 years. I recommend you try them, all you've got to lose is a couple bucks, you might find you have discovered a great new tone.

Don't get much better than these!!

Comments about Gibson Vintage Reissue 3-Pack VR10 Electric Guitar Strings:

After a LONG period of time(20 some odd years to be exact) being loyal to one brand--Ernie Ball--I decided to venture out and see what was out there and started reading reviews. I stumbled across these Gibsons, didn't see a bad review, so I ordered the 3-pack. Strung my '76 Standard with 'em and as I was handling the strings I could INSTANTLY tell a drastic improvement in quality over the EB's I had used for so long. I gotta say I didnt think my old Gibby could sound any better, but after I played a few licks on the Gibson RI's, I was very impressed!! Needless to say, I am in a serious state of regret, not changing brands before now!! EB's are not all that bad sounding, but the damn things almost instantly corrode and get all nasty so its safe to say I won't be buying any more of them any time soon if ever!! If you are looking for something good, GET THESE!! You'll be sooo glad you did, I sure was!!!!

Comments about Gibson Vintage Reissue 3-Pack VR10 Electric Guitar Strings:

I just put these babies on my '89 Gibson SG '62 RI and wowy wow-zas! They are great, brings ur guitars tone to another level, I've tried plenty of other brands - ernies, dean's, ect and these ones just stand out above the rest. I gotta play in the shade cuz the tone is sooo warm! By the looks of other reviews, other who have tried them will agree. try 'em out!

Comments about Gibson Vintage Reissue 3-Pack VR10 Electric Guitar Strings:

I just acquired these on the advice of the fellow who sold me my '59 Les Paul Historic RI and wow! These strings are great! They are pure nickel wrap and have a great feel and great tone to them. I won't put anything on my LP but these from now on. They are way better than the old strings I was using. (Ernie Ball 3121)

Comments about Gibson Vintage Reissue 3-Pack VR10 Electric Guitar Strings:

I am posting this review more for info than any thing else. I put a set of these VR10's on my Les Paul and found them to be mellow and warm just as they should be. However, you can not seem to get a brighter sound so I went back to my D'Addario EXL-110's and got my brightness back. With the D'Addarios, if I want a mellow or warm sound I use the tone control but can get the brightness if I need it. IMHO, I find my original strings the best for my needs. Still, these are great strings by a great company.

Comments about Gibson Vintage Reissue 3-Pack VR10 Electric Guitar Strings:

I've used many different strings over the years and usually opted for the D'Addario multi-pack to save money since I have a lot of electrics. I mainly play a PRS NF3 these days and got interested in trying some pure nickels after reading comments on the PRS forums. The Gibsons seemed to generate the highest praise so I gave them a try. I immediately loved the softer feel of the pure nickel wraps and the tone was exactly what I was looking for. I later tried the D'Addario Pure Nickels, but they did not have the same tone or soft feel the Gibsons have. I'm back on the Gibsons and they will be my string of choice for all but my darkest sounding guitars.
