Normally I cannot knock grovers out of tune for nothing, even on childrens guitars, but I have had a problem with an Epiphone Les Paul which is not even a year old. Other people have also had problems with their Epiphones. The new tuning keys did resolve this problem however Grover informed me that the 102c's Musicians Friend sent me are probably 14:1 gear ratio. They no longer manufacture 12:1. There was nothing on the package to indicate the gear ratio. Grover also told me the keys on the Epiphone are probably also 14:1. The keys were almost identical with a slightly different casting mark on the bottom. I did not have to resize the key holes and the screw holes were the same. I have played guitar for 50 years. It is always preferable to go to a lower gear ratio if possible. 12:1 or even 10:1 if you can find them. That means that one gear will turn one full turn while the other gear will turn 12 times depending upon the gear statistic. If you think about the gears on a bicyle,if the gears set one way it is easy to pedal. If the gears set the other way it is harder to pedal. The closer you get to that 1:1 gear ratio(gears of the same size) the harder it is to turn. If you have a tuning problem with your guitar go to a lower gear ratio.

I have several Epiphone and Gibson SGs and Les Pauls. Most of them came equipped with these tuners, but two of them had those plastic "vintage" tuners which I don't like. I bought these Grovers because I thought it'd be a nice, easy "swap out." But they don't fit! The post is too thick to fit through the holes in the headstocks, and they'd need to be drilled out. Definitely not a procedure you should attempt at home.

They're doing a great job. They didn't fit exactly. I had to drill the holes just barely, but it was no problem. They tune easily and they stay in tune.

Comments about Grover-Trophy 102 Rotomatics 3-Per-Side Guitar Tuning Keys:

I wish I would have gotten these first instead of switching bridges and the nut on my Gibson. These are heavy duty and the gears don't move around after you tune it which is the cure for a problem guitar. If you've got a problem guitar in your collection, get these. You won't be disappointed.

i bought these tuners to replace the factory tuners on my ibanez AF55. the factory tuners were cheap. a couple of them bagan to stick and grind inside and one finally quit turning all together. these tuners fit the holes perfect. i thought i was getting the angled screw holes. these were at a right angle. but that's ok. no bigy. they keep the guitar in tune like their suppose to.

I ordered a set of these to replace the low quality, rough feeling, unstable tuners that came on my Epi Les Paul 100. They dropped right in, look fantastic and work great. I highly recommend this product.

Comments about Grover-Trophy 102 Rotomatics 3-Per-Side Guitar Tuning Keys:

Very nice. I bought these to replace the factory ones on an old Alvarez I have had for 25 years. They work great and keep the guitar in tune very well.
NOTE: If you are lucky, these will fit your existing headstock holes. (.391 = 25/64). The holes on the old Alvarez were much smaller, about half this size. I took a leap of faith and drilled the headstock without any damage.(to be honest, I was worried about splitting the headstock and ruining this fine instrument.)
Once installed, they cranked up very quick and held the tuning. Over several days, the guitar is still in tune, and it just may be me, but I noticed an improvement in tone right away. It's like playing a whole new guitar.
These are big, heavy, beefy, good looking tuners. Too bad all guitars don't come with them.

Bottom Line: Very nice, superb quality and a serious upgrade for the price. Buy them.

I put these tuners in my 1980 Ibanez AS 50 semi-hollow body. No modifications necessary as the tuners on the guitar were copies. Wow, what a difference, these tuners are great. Always have been, always will be.

Simply the best out there. I installed the 102's on my Ibanez Art 100, I rarely have to tune it, even after days of hard playing and note bending.
