Hercules Stands

Made for quick and easy breakdowns and setup.

The EZ Clutch Mic Stand with Boom from Hercules Stands features three great design innovations that eliminate the usual problems associated with the everyday mic stands. The Quik-N-EZ Adapter requires a simple push of the lever up or down to quickly mount it to the mic stand. It can be left attached to the mic clip for speedy setups. Secondly, the Quik-N-EZ Boom with Retainer allows for instant attachment of the boom to the stand. Just flip the lever up to attach and down to remove. Finally, pressing the lever on the EZ Clutch releases the clutch, letting you slide the upper tube up or down. It's as simple as ever.
Height adjustable from 41.1" to 66.1", the microphone stand has a tripod base made of durable die-cast aluminum.

Features

  • Quik-N-EZ Adaptor for instant microphone attachment
  • Quik-N-EZ Boom with Retainer for instant attachment
  • Quik-N-EZ Clutch for easy adjustments
  • Tripod Base made of durable die-cast aluminum
  • Manufacturer's model number: MS531B
  • Height adjustment from 1045-1680mm (41.1-66.1")
  • Weight: 3.2kb (7lb.)
  • Base radius (340mm or 13.4")
  • Boom length: 780mm (30.7")

With boom arm and easy adjustability, this mic stand is a no-hassle essential.

Features:

Basic tripod stand save for the clutch mechanism which is an interesting design.

Quality:

This is an interesting design but poorly executed. The clutch works well and makes raising and lowering the stand an efficient process. The stand is heavy duty but that isn't helpful. The problem is the main knob that controls the angle of the boom arm. The knob is very difficult to loosen and tighten. As a guitar player my hands are pretty strong but this knob hurts to use. Moreover, the knob doesn't do its job--the boom arm will not stay in position no matter how much you tighten down the knob. The boom arm slowly droops so that you have to loosen and tighten the main knob every four or five minutes. And this isn't a one-off problem--I bought two of these stands and the problem exists with both of them. I'd give these stands a negative 10 if I could but I can't so instead I'll warn you against buying one.

Value:

Over priced even if it worked well. And given it's a nightmare of bad performance I suggest you look elsewhere. I would return the two I purchased if I could. You have been warned.

Overall:

See above-not much else to say.

It looks like a well-built stand, and for the most part it is. I love the 'clutch' design, for easily raising/lowering the height. That is genius, and it works very well. But I do have a pet-peeve with the boom... the main adjustment knob is odd... it seems difficult to tighten and loosen. Sometimes I'll be trying to loosen it, and before I know it I've loosened it too much and the knob pops off. Other times I'm trying to tighten it, and it's hard to tell if it's tight enough. It's hard to describe, but let me just say that it has an awkward feel to it. Also, the boom has a hard time with heavier mics, such as a large diaphram condenser. The boom tends to spin under their weight, especially if the stand is configured to mic an acoustic guitar. Fortunately I rarely use a heavy mic. It's fine with other mics. Despite all that, I'd still recommend this stand. Even with its quirks, it's one of the best stands I've ever owned.

I had one of the older models without the ez glide height adjustment. I like it a lot better then the new model until the pot metal tripod base snapped in two. No problem paid the extra cash because it came with lifetime warranty. Well try getting them to send you a new one. I have been promised one but it has been almost 8 months and still no stand. I wont buy a Hercules again! I'll buy 2 of the cheapies and when they break I can actually buy parts to fix them with.

Sturdy, easy to adjust, awesome quick release head.  I have killed my fair share of mic stands.  This one has lasted me years and still looks like new.  About to buy a second one.
