I like the features of this stand.
In case it's not obvious (it wasn't to me), the angle of this mic stand can be adjusted by just grabbing and moving it; nothing has to be loosened or squeezed. It has enough resistence to hold itself in place, but if you step on the base to hold it down, you can move it with one hand.

The height, obviously, is also adjustable with one hand when you squeeze the trigger on the stand.

Together, these make this much more foolproof than boom stands. I hope that will mean it's more durable. Most boom stands require that you loosen something to adjust, then re-tighten to hold it in place. People who don't know this or can't be bothered to do it will just grab and move it, stripping the threads and forcing you to tighten it even further so that it holds still. I have seen the tightening rod bent in an effort to make an abused stand hold still. The beauty of this thing is that I don't think anyone can do it wrong, so they can't hurt it.

This isn't as adjustable as a boom stand - you couldn't use it at the piano, for instance - but for a singer/guitar player, the angle is enough to keep it out of the way of the guitar.
Seems to be good quality, but I just got it, so time will tell.

This is made well but will not work for many. If you use a pedal board the leg restricts you from getting the mic close enough to use correctly. The ability to tilt towards you is not enough. Your pedal board is likely to be placed on top of that support in order to get close to the mic. For that feature alone this is not recommended for a musician that sings and uses floor pedals, effects. The novelty of quick adjustment and a solid feel looses its advantage there alone. If you do not play and instrument or use floor pedals this should work for you. I bought the guitar holder a few years back that I loved but it lost the ability to lock up because the cam that applies pressure is plastic and has worn down. Bottom line is if you are a working pro and want to use this gear daily, rehearsing and gigging full time, find something else because this is more of a semi pro, hobby quality item in reality.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

I've had this stand for over three years now and it still performs flawlessly. I paid quite a bit more back then so the value now is even better. Still a bit pricey and I gave it a 4.5 on value. Everything else is a perfect 5.0 and you'll realize why once you use one. These stands are built like a tank. They are a little heavy but no more than a boom stand. By eliminating the boom but allowing the same results they are much less cumbersome and setup/teardown time and adjustments are faster too. If you ever had to move or adjust a boom stand with a guitar strapped on you know it's not the easiest thing to do. Much easier with this stand. The quick adjust height clutch adds to the simplicity. Makes getting around on smaller stages better and makes for a cleaner less cluttered look. An all around superior product that looks great with great functionality.

All that a mic stand should be. Been gigging with this for a year and a half I could not find anything negative about this product. Pefrect for pedalboard use unlike some boom arm that you have to constantly tighten. I recomended it to my other musician freinds. Looks great on stage. Would replace it if lost or stolen. Built to last

    Mic Stand Review

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

If you're looking for a quality mic stand that many features that won't break the band look no further. This is by far the best mic stand I've ever used. I play out about 8 to 10 times per month so my gear can tend to get a little beat up with transporting it in the back of my truck but this thing has staying power. Seriously you can't beat the price/quality.
Seriously...I LOVE a few features this stand provides. The quick adjust feature is awesome and works very well. I've had a few quick adjust mics but this one is solid. I also love the way the feet adjust and allow different setups reducing footprint. Also if you're wondering if the normal tripod footprint is bigger than a standard three prong mic stand it's exactly the same.
This thing is SOLID. It's a little heavier than your normal mic stand but it's only because it's so sturdy. This thing is tough and won't be knocked over accidentally.
I researched this for about two weeks. I went to my local stores and they wouldn't even mach the price I got at musicians friend.

Just wondered what a smaller footprint heavy base would be like: but there is no tip at all with the
legs the way it is built. The hieght adjustment is fabulous.
This is one handy stand. I havn't tried all posisions yet, I just got it. 4 gigs and no stinking boom in the way! If it holds up it will be the greatest. A friend of mine has one & said he'd had it for a year and it was still on top! Said he was rough on them, that was one deciding factor.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

This stand was great right out of the box. Setup took mere seconds. The vertical post is held between friction pads on the base, no tools needed, just set it and forget it. The stand comes with a mic clip, so no need to buy one unless you prefer a different style of clip.

You can use the stand set to 90 degrees to the floor like a standard mic stand, or tilt it towards you at an angle, and that is the really cool feature. It has plenty of reach and height to clear your guitar and present the mic at a comfortable height without a boom.

I would not recommend this stand for vocalist who like to swing their mic stand around or use it like a dancer's pole. It swivels back and fourth and is definitely more suited for folks who set their mic stand and don't move it around while playing, as constant up and down movement might loosen things up. It could be re tightened, but that would require tools.

I don't know why nobody else has thought of this design before, it is just what I needed, and is great for guitar or bass players who don't like a mic stand right in front of them. No moving stands up and down and booms in and out, up and down. You can set this stand one-handed, on the fly with the squeeze handle. Try one, you will like it.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

These are the best mic stands we've ever had the pleasure of using. We purchased three from the Guitar Center in Brownsville, Texas, two years ago (and "On Sale", too) and put them immediately to work on our first Rio Grande Valley music tour. For this current music tour of 20 shows, we thought it would be nice to replace our other On Stage stands (most now very flimsy) with two more Hercules stands. Again, the best quality & ease of function. Mic clip has an 'easy on' snap feature that's very handy (although we like the older version better).

Overall, you won't be disappointed by these quality adjustable stands! We recommend very highly.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

First off, I LOVE the design of this mic. It's exactly what I need. I play some guitar but mostly sing so having the ability to tilt the stand at an angle whenever needed is a HUGE plus. The grip adjust ment is nice as well, overall I really love this stand.

My only problem is after about 2-3 years of owning it, the stand no longer adjusts, it's like it rusted in one spot. I tried WD-40 and several other things to get it to move and it won't budge, even hit the top of it with a hammer, it moved it but didn't knock it loose. It is locked in an unusable state. A real bummer. For the somewhat high price, I really don't want to invest in a new one every 2-3 years.

I also noticed that the threading didn't quite line up correctly so my mics were always off centered, I'd use the washer to help but it would inevitably come loose and the saddle would flop around.

Hopefully this design has been improved upon. I don't know if anyone else has had these issues or not.

I kept bumping into my boom stand when looking up from my light control pedals. My line of sight wouldn't allow me to judge wher my mic was. This stand is in my periffrial vision since it leans to me. This stand also doesn't swivel awy from me if I bump it during performance. It was a bit lose when I first used it and fell into my chin but was easily tightend with a couple of crescent wrenches. Everyone that sees it wants one once they try mine.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

I bought this to allow me to use my mic on a stand that will also permit the use of my pedalboard instead of using a boom stand. Everything works well until I begin to really tilt it more than approximately 45 degrees where it tends to drop on down to the floor. I tightened up the screw as much as possible, but that may not be enough. I may have to add a pin to it after drilling a hole to lock it into a firm position. Otherwise, great concept.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

Been gigging with this for a couple months now. As others reviewers have said it is built solid. As a singer/part time guitar player it is super easy to go from one to the other with the tilt base, a much better option then boom stand in my opinion.Only complaint I would have is for some reason they didn't make the swivel legs lock into place so i was having some problems with them wanting to fold in when I would move the stand. But a couple of hitch pins and drill bit fixed that problem, overall a really well built and flexible stand

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

These stands are actually fun to use. No boom needed, just tilt it back toward you and it stays. They fold up quickly and set up quickly, too. And the extension mechanism is very smooth and precise. The overall quality is really nice, although I've only been using them for a couple gigs. We'll see how they last, but so far they're awesome. Just wish they weren't made in China. C'mon Hercules, your already a little pricey, but even still, I'd pay a little more for a 'made in USA' sticker.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS401B Transformer Tilt Base Microphone Stand:

I was tired of fiddling with boom stands, and the pedal board was difficult to position with tripods, etc. With this Herucles, you can one hand adjust the neck and the stand can be leaned forward and it is over the pedal board and the board can be positioned with ease. For me, it folds and stows (in my speaker stand bag) very easily. We will see how it holds in the long run, but so far, it has been very effective and handy

I really believe this product will be very beneficial in stage set-up at some music festivals we are providing sound for. We have been working with the standard mic stands but after only a few shows I find this Hercules stand to be more adaptable and much easier to operate.
