Comments about Hercules Stands MS540B Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand:

I am an acoustic guitarist/singer and play seated so I was looking for a low profile stand. I didn't see too many options. This is a nice heavy duty stand which seems well constructed. I do think it is important for potential purchasers to know that the mechanism which tightens the boom in position has to be turned really, really tight to keep it's position with the weight of a microphone on it. A person with arthritis or not a lot of hand strength may have difficulty with it. Also note that it is with the counterweight portion of the boom extended 23" and the portion holding the mic 23", so I am not attempting a crazy, unbalanced setup. Positioned as in the picture here in the ad it would be even more unbalanaced. I don't think it is specifically a defect in my unit as I see this same issue in more than one previous review here. My economy boom stands do better. The knob at the bottom that tightens the base to the shaft of the stand works really great with just finger tightening. That part is superior to any of my economy stands. A good stand overall, but would be a great stand if they could redesign a little.

      Good, solid mid-height boom stand

Comments about Hercules Stands MS540B Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand:

Pretty good boom stand if you need a mid-height/mid-level boom. The adjustability of the boom axis is a little different/tricky than other boom stands, but stands still once turned tightly in to place.

      A weaker offering from Hercules

      By Tone Obsessed

      from York, PA (nowhere)

Comments about Hercules Stands MS540B Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand:

I love Hercules stands, but this one falls a little short of their usual perfection. First of all the base is really big, about 2' in diameter with all three legs fully extended; although this is necessary if you want to fully extend the boom, is still way to big if you've got limited space. Second of all the knob that tightens the tilt mechanism on the boom arm has a rubber gasket that has to be cranked down really hard to keep it from slipping and drooping. This is a really dumb design and kind of surprising to anyone accustomed to Hercules usually great engineering. If you don't need a lot of height or boom extention, I'd go with the small Hercules stand and pair it with one of the small On-Stage booms. This set up works great on acoustic guitar and is a better choice for a little less money. If you looking for a vocal mic stand, the larger tilt Hercules version is probably a better choice for that application. I'll still use this stand from time time, but it's admittedly a bit of a dissappointment.

      Unique

Comments about Hercules Stands MS540B Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand:

I've had this for nearly a year now, and am quite happy with it. All the parts are well made and seem they will last for years. Relatively light weight, good looking and very stable.Believe it or not, I have used this mostly for mounting a CAD M179 studio condenser microphone...which has revealed one flaw: With the extra weight of the heavy microphone, the boom would gradually tilt forward. With the boom straight up, there is a simple solution: Wrap one or two cable-management (Velcro) straps to hold the bottom end (handle) of the boom close against the stand. All that being said, this was not designed for a 17.8 oz Studio condenser, but with a little help, still does a great job.

      Worth the extra cash!

      By MusicMan7728

Comments about Hercules Stands MS540B Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand:

Very nice mini boom stand that's perfect for micing your amp. As with many mini booms on the market, they tend to tip over with the average condenser mic attached. The Hercules is meaty enough to allow you to extend the boom without it wanting to tip over or seem uneasy. Don't waste your money on other mini booms (tripod or round base). Spend the little extra cash and get this product. It will save you many headaches!

      Best Portable Stand

      By Humble Servant

      from Ukraine

Comments about Hercules Stands MS540B Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand:

I needed a mic stand that I could carry with me (on foot). It has to fold up small, but still be able to mic a person standing up. I wanted a quality unit that I could take with me overseas without the need to replace it for several years. This stand is perfect! It can be fully extended straight up and mic someone about 6'4". It folds up small enough to carry on the metro with my Roland AC-60 and guitar. It is very well built and stable. All other short stands would not go up high as this one will.

Comments about Hercules Stands MS540B Low-Profile Tripod Microphone Boom Stand:

I needed a mic stand that I can carry with my Roland AC-60. This is the only stand that folds up small enough to carry easily and still extend tall enough to be used as a mic stand for someone standing. The quality is outstanding and it is quite stable.
