Hipshot

The Hipshot Tremsetter greatly improves guitar performance by stabilizing your tremolo. It automatically returns your full-floating tremolo to its exact "zero" neutral position, eliminating flutter and sag, so your guitar remains in tune.

With the Tremsetter you can bend strings, play bridge harmonics, aggressive rhythm parts or mute strings, and the bridge remains stable.

Best of all, the Tremsetter is total retro-fit. No need to chop up your vintage axe, just install it and play!

The Tremsetter installs on your tremolo guitar in the back cavity where the springs are. When you put the cover plate back on your guitar you will never even know the Tremsetter is there doing it's job. The Tremsetter automatically brings your guitar back to its "zero" or starting position.

Ordinarily, your tremolo relies on string tension pulling against the springs in the back of your guitar. It's a delicate balance similar to the way a teeter totter works. If one side is just a little out of balance, your guitar will be out of tune. The Tremsetter overrides this precarious balancing situation and brings your tremolo back to the exact "in-tune" position.

You can still push down and pull back on the tremolo to raise and lower my stings. The Tremsetter works very similarly to a double hinged door; i.e., the door can swing both ways, but comes to rest in the center position. When you let go or your tremolo arm after you have raised or lowered your strings, the Tremsetter automatically returns your tremolo to it's "zero" position.

The Tremsetter works on Floyd Rose equipped guitars, and will work on just about any style of fulcrum tremolo including Fender, Wilkinson, Kahler, and Ibanez.

The Tremsetter stabilizes your tremolo and eliminates annoying flutter. The flutter or warbling sound is really your string energy being absorbed by your tremolo springs. The Tremsetter lightly holds your tremolo in position so that your string's energy goes through your pickups and out your amp, not into your tremolo springs. You should immediately hear a dramatic improvement in your guitar's attack, volume, and sustain.

The Tremsetter stabilizes your tremolo to minimize "tremolo sag". "Tremolo sag" is what you experience when you bend a string, increasing the string pressure causing your tremolo to rock or sag forward. This puts your adjacent strings out of tune. This is especially annoying when you are trying to play country or blues style double stop bends. Also, when your tremolo sags forward, you have to bend farther to raise the pitch of your strings.

With Tremsetter, you will immediately notice that your strings feel tighter and less rubbery. The string tension of a tremolo guitar in large part is determined by the tremolo springs located in the back of the guitar. When you bend your strings what you are really feeling are the springs stretching out. Once the Tremsetter is installed, your tremolo will be stabilized and you will feel the true string tension. The Tremsetter will give you all the advantages of a fixed bridge guitar while maintaining the versatility of a full floating tremolo instrument.

The Hipshot Tremsetter works as advertised... IF you take the time to follow the directions exactly. Now, a well-set-up Strat should hold tune just fine anyway (and if yours doesn't, then you should address that before installing this thing). What the Tremsetter really does for you is allows you to do fixed bridge-type stuff like unison bends well enough to get away with live. It also improves your tuning stability enough for you to go from standard to drop-D quickly on stage without having to completely re-tune your guitar if you don't feel like switching or can't switch guitars - once again, close enough to get away with. It will also help with tuning stability on a guitar with an old bridge that is starting to wear at the pivot points. It will not make up for a binding nut or slipping tuners, so don't expect it to do that.

I also want to note that Hipshot's customer service is impeccable. While installing the brass pull-rod into the brass sustain block on my Showmaster, I got a little too rough with it and broke the hook of the rod off. I contacted Hipshot through their website and asked if they had any spare parts I could buy off of them, since it seemed like a waste to buy a whole new system. I got a response via email the next morning requesting my mailing address, and two days later I received an envelope with two extra pull-rods, free of charge. I was very impressed, to say the least.

In short, as long as you don't expect this thing to do something that it can't, and as long as you take the time to install it correctly (actually read the instructions and watch the video), you will have a great experience with the Tremsetter.

When i bought this I really believed this was going to solve all the tuning problems, (even the ones I had not had yet). I even bought two tremsetters planing to install them on my two guitars. But let me tell you, after I installed the first one, I sure did regret buyng it. First of all, forget you can bend the notes with your whammy bar, because if you do you wont go back to tune unless you hit the bar down (which is one of the things I wanted to solve, but instead, this thing made the problem worse).I will surely not drill a holes in my nicer guitar(fortunately I first tried it out on the "cheap one", but still, it ruined my Jackson RR3).This thing is not either worth the money or the work, because the installation takes quite a while.Since both tremsetters I got were christmas presents, and they were bought in advance by my girlfriend, so by the time I got realised i just didn't like them at all, it was too late, and I couldn't send them back. So, I am positive when I recommend you not to buy this product, I took it off from the guitar after a while, but the holes are still there, and will always be...And if you are sure you want to buy it, tell me... I have two tremsetters to sell, hahahaha.

Comments about Hipshot Tremsetter 401000 Tremolo Stabilizer:

I used these on every Stratocaster I've owned since they used to come stock on the Ultras. I have them on 3 of my Strats now. Not only do they do as advertised, they also keep your guitar in tune should you break a string in the middle of a song. I know this from experience, that's why I use them. Note a point of interest, have a competent luthier install and set it up for you.

Comments about Hipshot Tremsetter 401000 Tremolo Stabilizer:

My main issue is a string that goes flat when you bend its neighbor. You can compensate by applying pressure to the the bridgeplate with the back of your palm, but you don't always get it exactly right.

Twenty years ago, I installed what is probably an earlier version of this product in an American Strat, which I later traded off for a G&L Legacy. I was too lazy to return the Strat to "stock" condition, so I considered the Tremsetter a gift to whoever bought The Strat.

After 20 years of dealing with the floating tremolo "issues," I have finally decided to install a Tremsetter in my Legacy. I don't expect the same thing as a fixed bridge (i.e., it will still be a little goosey), but it should be a big improvement over the floating tremelo.

Works exactly as advertised, I'm really glad I installed my tremsetter. The guitar stays in tune so much better now! Notes are easier to bend because the tremsetter keeps the bridge in place when not using the bar.

                Does What It Says

Comments about Hipshot Tremsetter 401000 Tremolo Stabilizer:

This unit fixes several problems with the Fender tremolo. Double stop bends stay in tune better, the tremolo returns to relaxed position better and the tone is fuller. If you like the Jeff Beck style, loose spring set up for your tremolo, this might not be for you. Everyone else will love it.
The Tremsetter is straight forward. It stablizes the Fender tremolo, and greatly helps intonation when bending notes.
The unit itself is built very well. The instructions for installation? They are a little tough. There is a video at Hipshot's website that is very helpful. Just be prepared and not in a hurry when you install.
                Inexpensive for what it does.

The guy who designed this is a GENIUS ! All the other reviews are true. The springs in my Ibanez Satriani died so I replaced them. I added this unit at the same time and FINALLY it plays the way it should. Tunings a breeze in seconds. String bends are perfect. Lean on the bridge and it doesn't sag. Dive bombs come right back to pitch. More sustain. I didn't have to use the extra hardware supplied or drill holes. Just a little file-ing on the one pin. I'm going to put one in my other guitar as well.

                mostly works

Comments about Hipshot Tremsetter 401000 Tremolo Stabilizer:

I installed one of these on my MIM strat about three months ago. The installation was not bad, but I did a lot of research on it beforehand.I did not get this for tuning stability. All of my strat trems stay in tune fine without any extra aid.It really is a series of tradeoffs. I love my strat trem but it kills any lick where you bend a string and strike another string (about 80% of generic rock and blues licks). The tremsetter stiffens the trem up so much that you can get away with these types of bends. Using my tuner I see that the unbent string goes about 3 cents flat (due to the floating bridge shifting). My ear can just barely detect it in the middle of a lick, but just barely. It gets me 95% of the way there for these bends. In comparison a fixed bridge guitar like a tele will go about .5-1.0 cents flat when bending the G string a full step (due to the entire neck shifting). But the stiffened feel of the trem makes it much tougher to use. You still have a fully floating trem that can go up and down. But it's much harder to use, particularly when going down. My usual method of lightly grabbing the bar with my ring and pinky fingers doesn't really work.Overall I like this item. There is no perfect solution to the problem. This one was fairly cheap and gets me a lot of the way there. I have several strats and I left a few without any tremsetter, fully floating for the songs where I need that light touch. But I installed the tremsetter on my main guitar, my HSS strat, and it amplified its versatility.I'd do it again, but I don't think I'll install it on any other guitars. And I eagerly await a product that somehow magically solves the problem for good. I'd say I prefer this over decking the strat trem.

I had a tremsetter installed on my Ibanez JS100 three years ago by a local luthier & I could not be happier w/the product. This guitar would not stay in tune & after two years it became worse, the bridge was moving too much. Just bending a string made it go out of tune. I do recommend letting a pro do the job. Afterwards the bridge was so stable I then switched out the original pick ups & now I have an intrument which compares very well w/my JS1200CA.

i've bought this stablizer to use it on my Original floydrose bridge (i use d'addario XL 110 gauge 0.10 strings)...after installing it , i tried to reach the bridge most stable position (parallel to the body) , but after increasing it's tension to the maximum & screwing the mountin screws to their end (used 3 new fender springs) , the tension of the strings is still greater than this thing & i never reach the stability position .... so i jut threw it away & used a 3 floydrose springs...if you have a floating bridge , don't ever use this thing!!

You'll need a LONG 3/32 drill bit, and a 6" steel ruler...a few bucks at your local hardware store to install this thing. Find the installation video on youtube. Follow the video CAREFULLY. If you're not mechanically inclined, have it installed at your local guitar store. Having said that...This is a great product. I've had it on my AmericanDeluxe Strat for a couple of years now. Once it's set up properly, it works well. If you can't get it to work, you installed it wrong. I play a couple of songs in dropped D tuning, and have broken strings during songs...guitar stays in tune, and allows me to replace a single string and retune quickly. I recently broke the pull rod(my fault), and Hipshot sent me a replacement in a couple of days. Great customer service from a great company. Good product that works.
