Tune fast in any environment.
The Intellitouch PT1 Tuner is designed to tune electric and acoustic guitars, basses, violins, banjos, mandolins, and more without interference from ambient room noise. And it does it all without the the use of wires, microphones, or pickups. Tuning in noisy environments is a snap because the unique, flexible clamp actually "feels" the instrument's vibrational energy instead of relying on sound.
The swiveling design allows a perfect view of the tuner's LCD display from nearly any angle.
Intellitouch learns and remembers letting you set any tuning frequency you require, saving that learned reference as a preset, even when it's turned off.
The Intellitouch PT1 Tuner has a 7-octave range and precision within one cent. 2 - 3V coin cell batteries provide 30 hours continuous tuning.

First the review on battery life is odd. I've had mine since this model first came out and use mine daily and only have had to replace the batteries every couple of YEARS. It works awesome for acoustic instruments in loud environments, if you can keep the strings from picking up the noise too much. Also, this CAN be used on electric guitars, too.I use this on a couple Fender electric guitars and an acoustic. It has no problems tuning the electric guitars, but if your guitar uses really light strings or has poor transmission of vibration, it may not detect the notes at all. I use 11s (works a tad better than when I had 9s) and you can clearly feel the vibration of the strings at the head, (which is a good thing). It works well and is consistent with the other two small BOSS tuners I have in features and precision. Occasionally, it gets a little confused as to the note played, but (like other tuners I have used) it works best if you mute the strings between notes. The battery door broke off, thanks to my infant son, and the plastic cracked around the elbow where it bends. I had tried to tighten it because it was loose. The construction is its weakest attribute, as the plastic at the elbow is a stress point.

I was anxious to own a tuner that didn't need a mic or cable. Unfortunately, this one disappointed me (I expected a little more reliability and durability considering it was the more expensive model). Frequently it had difficulty detecting anything from my high E string, regardless of where I placed it on the headstock. Also, in less than a year and only a dozen or so hours of actual use, it decided to stop detecting notes completely, only displaying the "mode" headings. I always kept it in its case and used it only to tune up prior to church services if needed. For the money I found this tuner disappointing. I have an inexpensive Korg LCD tuner I bought 5 years ago that doesn't even have a protective case, yet still serves me reliably to this day (on the same original batteries!).

This thing works on all of my guitars. It doesn't matter what type of background noise is going on. Unlike one reviewer, it works fine on my Ovation, I just have to find a place to put it. But it does work. It makes the task of tuning really easy. Not having anything else but guitars, a reference note was always what I was missing. Now all of my guitars are in tune with one another and the world. Well worth the money. I love this silly thing.
All I will say is that I have many tuners and this is definitely the best. Clip it on, it weighs nothing so you can keep it on while you play. The tuner shuts off automatically to save the batteries when no sound is detected. The backlight is bright, the tuning is easy and you can even store alternative tunings for easy recall. Buy it, you will like it.
Having used a friend's PT-1, I can say that it does what they say it does. The fact that it can be accurately used in high noise/low light settings is a plus for a working musician.
Have had some trouble with mine and the batteries don't last long enough. Easy to use. Hard to clip on and less accurate on nylon string acoustic.
I use a lot of open/alternate tunings and this is the best tuner that I've found. Recently loaned it to a friend and couldn't wait to get it back!
Excellent tuner, especially for use at festivals and fire-sides where the backlight is really great to have, and the accuracy is well within the limits I need as an advanced amatuer player - I have used this tuner for about two years and the original batteries are just starting to die - The unit clips easily to most of my guitars, but will not fit the curved headstock of my Ovation, nor will it fit the thin headstocks of my Gibson Banjolin - A few times it has been knocked off my guitar and hit the floor; most of those times it was OK but the last time it just flew to pieces and I ended up using super-glue to put it back together: still works though - Overall I am quite satisfied and am about to purchase another one - If you are thinking about getting one of these, I highly recommend you spend the extra bucks and get the backlit model if you ever play where there isn't much light -
I have been using this tuner for about a year now. My feeling are mixed. This tuner feels the vibrations of your guitar. I guess if you have a fairly controlled environment then this tuner works great. But you really can't use it to set your intonation, or in live situations where others are playing pretty loud. It dosent do well with harmonics, and seems easy to confuse. I guess it has its uses but I'm looking at a wired tuner as over all I'm just not happy with it.
accurate, easy, convenient and versatile. I'm an idiot and I couldn't get it wrong.
Fantastic product and great customer support. It popped off the headstock of one of my instruments and broke the piece that clips on to the instrument. I emailed the help desk from their website and in less than 24 hours they sent me a new piece for me to attach to the working portion. The product itself is a dream. I play in noisy environments with lots of players and I NEVER have a problem. Nearly everyone I play with borrows it because they cannot get in tune with all the background noise. If they had not agreed to send me a new clip piece, I would have bought another one in a second. This is the type of tuner everyone should have because it is so versatile.
I borrow this every week from a friend. It has a hard time ith the E on my bass sometimes, you have have hit it a couple times, but this it is good. For the other strings, it works great and fast. I can't imagine a five sting though...
I've had two of these in the past 5 years and both of them had the same problem. Neither of them would read some of my string's state of tune at any given time. Considering how much these cost I think this company should be ashamed of their product, as it is not well tested and the quality seems spotty. I don't recommend this tuner.
The instructions are hard to follow, but straight out of the box is how I use it, and let me tell you, I never realized how crummy my tuning was. This device will give new life to your instrument.
I have tried a number of tuners over the years, and while I'm gratified to see that there are decent tuners available for very little money (like the super cheap Korg), I needed something that mounted on my instrument while I was playing. I use a Sabine on my guitar, but there's no flat spot on my banjo for a Sabine, so I got one of these Intellitouch things, and it is terrific!
I had seen several Professional Bluegrass bands perform and my attention was drawn to this particular tuner. Was impressed with the "Onboard" usage and and low profile that this tuner provides. I love all the functions that helps me when tuning my mandolin in ANY light setting. Will recommend this to fellow pickers! Thanks! :)
The Intellitouch PT 1 Tuner is my favorite because it is extremely accurate, and is unaffected by ambient sound from any source. After purchasing, I tested the Intellitouch PT 1 Tuner against my twelve-year old trusted LockOn Pro tuner (remember this small chromatic tuner made with a tiny solid wood cabinet?. The two tuners matched tuning accuracy exactly the same on my Martin D-45, and my 1964 Guild F-212 twelve string guitar. It is remarkably convenient, and the accuracy is uncanny. If you read and follow the instructions that come with the Intellitouch PT 1 Tuner, you can avoid the problem of the tuner picking up the harmonics in the bass strings (mostly the E or 6th string being read as a "B"). Using the fleshy part of the thumb to gently pick the 6th E string is the secret. I also tried a new trick, not mentioned in the instruction manual; immediately before you tune the 6th E string, tune the "B" or second string. This seems to help the tuner identify the difference between a "B" harmonic, and a true "E" or 6th string's vibrations.
I bought this last week, and it worked ok for tuning my Strat. I followed the recommendations for plucking the string and letting it ring and it seemed ok. I tried to tune my Ovation, and it was not easy. It was hard to find a good place to clip it onto the headstock, and it was so close to the strings that I am sure that they played a little havoc with it. Next I attempted to tune my Washburn HP-85, which is a maple semi hollow body. It really couldn't identify the B string, or the A. Ironically I never had trouble with it on the E strings! I didn't even bother trying to tune my Seagull 12 atring. I just put it away and will return it Monday. It seems to be a great concept, but for me, I will stick to my Korg tuner that I have used faithfully.
The PT1 tuner does it all. Not only does it give quick, steady readings, it does it even if you are right smack in the middle of your friends' wailing away on their instruments. No more having to find a quiet place to tune up. This thing is terrific.
This is a nice tuner and I have purchased and used three of these but, and this is a BIG BUT, whenever I have gone to change the batteries the tuners stop working. No response, nothing. I first thought it was me: I didn't insert the battery properly. Then I thought maybe it was the battery: I had purchased the wrong battery. But after THREE tuners not working, it has to be something else. But, having said this I still must say that I like these tuners. That is why I have purchased two more, even after the others died on me. AND, I will probably buy another because when they are working, THEY ARE GREAT and the best and easiest tuner to use on stage with my acoustic guitars.
I purchased this tuner around 4 or 5 years ago, the screw that held the arm fell out and when I emailed the company to purchase a replacement the sent one free of charge within a few days, Intellitouch has incredible customer service I would recommend this tuner to anyone.
I've owned many tuners and this is by far the best one I have ever used. Fast, accurate and I can use it in the recording studio without having to plug in. I like that's it's made in the USA and has Lifetime warranty. Well worth the money and peace of mind. I know own 3. Great tuner!
