Starting with the bad news, these were a little slimmer than my existing pins but still managed to hold my strings fine. My old pins were 5mm at their widest (they were the tapered variety). However, this was an old guitar with a veteran bridge so the size of the hot rod pins would have been perfect. On to the good. First off these were free. I ordered the Jellisfish pick (also awesome) and the company offers a set of these free with purchase. Good strategy because if I need pins again it will be these. The first thing I noticed was that the guitar resonated much better. My low "E" went crazy when I plucked the high "E" during tuning. The sustain is dramatically better. The tone is brighter and the guitar projects much better now. I cannot believe how much better my guitar sounds now. Also, they look sharp. The color is bright but not over the top. I chose green and it looks like they belong there.

But I'm certain brass would do it a bit better. The whole point of using an alloy is for that bright, punchy, sharp detailed tone. They do a pretty good job of this BUT, good luck getting them to fit your bridge pin holes. The only reason mine stay in is the string tension, otherwise there is basically no gripping occuring between the wood and pins. This has been consistent with reviews I've read. I got the gold color. It's sort of a mellow, flat, antique gold which looks really nice. Sure to get notice but not over the top so no worries about it clashing. Ultimately, I'll have to try a set of the D'Andreas which are all brass to compare, I suspect they will do a better job all around. I installed them in a medium jumbo folk style acoustic which just won't handle sweeping but finally shines for rhythm and lead/solos. If your guitar already covers all 3 styles/techniques well, these pins are the way to get an improvement. Just be aware that they may not fit!

These are attractive, functional, and reasonably priced. I can't tell that they affect the tone of my D16.

          These are great!!!!

Comments about Jellifish HotRods Colored Bridge Pins:

I do not see what everyone else is talking about. These bridge pins are extremely easy to put in. I do not have the luxury of going down to the local guitar store and having someone else restring my guitar for me. If you go to Jellifish's website, they actually have installation instructions, http://www.jellifish.com/images/hotrods/JFHR-1pg_install.pdf. They should not fit super tight because they use the ball as a cam combined with string tension to hold them in place.

I highly reccommend these bridge pins.

I would also suggest to anyone who is replacing any parts with another product that they are not familiar with, to do their research before you buy it.
These bridge pins provide an awesome sound.

          Highly recommended...

Comments about Jellifish HotRods Colored Bridge Pins:

I purchased these bridge pins as replacements for the original rosewood pins on my '83 Washburn Monterey Artist acoustic/electric. I was looking at brass pins originally but chose these instead because they claim to be a superior "proprietary alloy" & because they cost less than brass pins. I have to admit that when I received them I was not sure whether or not they were even metal & I almost sent them back. But I learned upon taking them out of the package that they are indeed metal & I proceeded with the installation/restringing. (I use D'Addario EJ15 strings) Once my guitar was restrung & the strings given a chance to stretch out I was amazed at the difference in the sound of the guitar with these pins. The tones are crisp & bell like without becoming too glassy & the sustain is greatly improved. Very nice!

          Ill-Fitting

Comments about Jellifish HotRods Colored Bridge Pins:

These bridge pins will not fit unless your guitar's bridge is extremely new. I wouldn't recommend using any tricks to fit them (e.g. swelling the wood, using a hammer, etc.) as your guitar is certainly worth more than these bridge pins. Save your money.

Jellifish Hotrods actually fit: Believe it or Not

Comments about Jellifish HotRods Colored Bridge Pins:

It seems that every review on here pertains to the Hotrods not fitting. I have one GOLDEN piece of advice. When you receive your Hotrods, make haste and take them and your guitar to your nearest/favorite guitar store. They will be able to put it in. I had the exact problem. Couldn't get them in, I got very, very frustrated, but then I took the problem up to Hickory Winds-this great guitar store in Waycross, Ga.- and he put them in within 10 min. Poof! Problem solved. Trust me. They will fit. No matter how big the hole is. Mine seemed like it would fall through if not for the Hotrods swelled head. Hope this helps everybody. This is a good product. Sounds great.

Comments about Jellifish HotRods Colored Bridge Pins:

I got these bridge pins and was furious that they didn't fit my bridge holes. In my fit of rage i came upon an idea. I wet down 6 q-tips (not sopping but wet enough) and put them in the holes for 10 minutes. the wood absorbed the water and swelled. Making the holes smaller. I tried again when the and presto they worked. They do their job very well and the silver with my black takamine looks great. I would however recommend getting different bridge pins. These are just too frustrating. They are cheap but come at a price.

You can't judge these things because they don't fit. If it wasn't for the top they would fall thru! I managed to get three to hold (temp) to try them out. Make no difference at all, but they are to loose to make full contact. If they fit the hole it might be different, but they don't.Save your time and temper......

Comments about Jellifish HotRods Colored Bridge Pins:

Unless you have a brand-new instrument with very tight bridge holes, do not buy these pins. They will not stay in the holes. Overall tone is no better than the standard pins. A poorly engineered product, all hype and no performance.

          Why not make them fit?

          By Bahamatar

Comments about Jellifish HotRods Colored Bridge Pins:

These just fall into the holes on my Kramer Ferrington, which I'm pretty sure has holes of a standard diameter. When I was taking out the original pins to install these ones, I broke one of them, so when I discovered that the jellifish pins didn't fit, I only had five original pins. I made one of the jellifish pins work temporarily by wrapping it with teflon tape. It's interesting having one string held by the jellifish and the rest with the original pins. You can compare the tone between the two and find that there 'aint a lick of difference! Waste of money.
