Dropped this speaker into a custom made tweed vibrolux (which usually came with a 10" speaker)
I tried the Weber 12" that is comparable to this one.. and also tried the Cannabis Rex speaker prior to trying this.
Liked the Cannabis, but that speaker doesn't have the response of an Alnico type speaker in my opinion. So I tried this after having tried the Weber and not liking it.
Can't really say enough good things about this speaker.. after a few hours of break in it really sounds clear and to me, sounds old. Sounds like a good, old speaker as compared to a newer ceramic or more modern design.
The one thing that I will say is that for the first 3hrs of playing it sounded.. well.. TERRIBLE. I thought it was broken initially because the breakup characteristic was so weird... I guess that's just the speaker breaking in though because after it opened up a bit.. it really sounds great.
Get those cool old stones or old Mark Knopfler type tones out of this amp now with ease.
It doesn't have the headroom, volume or low end of the Cannabis.. but that's a good thing as that speaker was almost too loud for this amp. The Cannabis had kind of a huge low end.. that this doesn't have.. and it's generally brighter and more chimy than the Cannabis.
That being said.. This is how I wished the amp would've sound/felt when I first got it.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it again for a Fender Style tweed amp.

This is a great sounding reissue of a vintage design AlNiCo guitar speaker that would sound great in a tweed combo tube amp like an old Fender Deluxe, etc. Couple it up with a really nice hand-wired 5 to 25 watt tube amp, and you'll get a great vintage tone. I strongly recommend against 'dishing out all the punishment' you can on this speaker as it states in the ad text, as you will blow it. It's rated at 25 watts, and it's design dates back to the 50's, so if you punish this driver it will die. I wouldn't categorize this driver as 'tough'. Treat it nicely and it will deliver killer tone. It has a great midrange voice, and sounds great when your low-wattage tube amp gets pushed and it starts to 'break up' with a nice crunch. Reserve punishment for an EVM12L, which IS a tough speaker.

Warm, warm, warm tone. Deep Bass, 8K highs. Has that Pure Tone for rock n' blues and country too!
