This tube is unique among the current production 6V6 offerings. This can be good or bad depending on your needs. To me, it's a very good thing for two reasons.

1. Rugged build. The JJ 6V6S is a very robust tube with it's rugged construction and spiral filament. It is widely reported that the JJ's can take higher voltages than the others. This is a very good thing when installed in my Tweed Deluxe clone or a Deluxe Reverb. Those amps are especially hard on power tubes. While I love the sound of the Tung Sol Reissue tube, for example, I do NOT love having one blow after a month or so of service. This has happened to me twice. Maybe just a bad batch, maybe not.

2. Sound. The JJ tube is a little bigger and the sound is a little different than the other current production 6V6 tubes, a little more 6L6 like, as others have stated. If you are a stickler for vintage correct 6V6 sound, then this is probably a bad thing. But it is an especially good thing for me in my Tweed Deluxe clone ( only 12 watts), especially on a gig. The JJ 6V6S tubes are a little bigger, bolder and more aggressive sounding than the other offerings. They cut through the mix a bit better. They break up a bit later and stay more clear when overdriven, with a little less of the mushy compression that is characteristic of the 5E3 circuit. In addition to going to a more efficient Celestion Blue speaker, the switch to the JJ 6V6S tubes has helped my 5E3 Deluxe make the transition from bedroom/studio to the gig. I love that.

These tubes were suppose to be a "Matched" pair. I put them in my Fender Super Champ XD, and set the bias to 40 ma. Things start out OK, but after a good Rif, one of the tubes starts drawing too much current and gets Red Hot while the other tube does not. It doesn't matter which socket it's in, the same tube takes off when playing through the amp. I can't even use them!

      • In A Tube Amp -

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

I got about 500 hours out of this same tube before it started going out (making random noises). So that's about a year for me. I use it in a VHT Special 6 (one power tube), so for me changing the tube once a year just before our church Christmas program is easy to keep track of.

The sound of this brand was better (in my mind) than the stock tube.

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

I record my practices with a 17 piece modern big band and the quality of my sound is making me very happy.
My Fender Princeton 65 Reissue never sounded better. It came with Groove Tube whites and they sound great. Then one went bad. So, I put Groove tube reds in it and thought all was well until I decided to try JJ's out. The JJ's made my amp sound quite noticably better. They are not as loud as the reds, but that is good. I have more head room and the bass is cleaner. My overdrive pedals (Timmy, Lovepedal COT 50 and Zendrive) all sound better now. I will keep using these in my rig. I am also going to try a Bill M. TO20 output transformer. Can't wait until it shows up in the mail.
      I just got them.
Pretty cheep for what they did for my sound.

      Great tube - really a 7591

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

      its a 10.
Its really the same uprated, Industrial strength tube as the old Westinghouse 7591. Those are the ones Neil Young Likes to use in his Tweed Fenders and they operate under more like 6L6GB conditions. This JJ is rated for 450 volts in fact, and if you compare it to one of the old Westinghouse tubes you'll find they are made almost identically. Good on JJ for reproducing some great old American tubes **(the new jj 5Y3GT, 6550 AND EL844 tubes are obvious nods to GE)** instead of making the latest "'mullard" or "'Telefunken" comparison. If you want a 50's style 6V6GT you cant do bettter than the Electroharmonix reproduction of the CBS Hytron, for a 1960's"Blackface"era 6V6GTA, do the Tungsol and for the baddest early 70's distortion monster - 7591, uprated 6V6, the JJ cant be beat. HIGHLY recommended. No need to even consider NOS or 50 year old 'vintage" tubes if you dont want to anymore.
Made as well as a 1970's Westinghouse
r u kidding? JJ are probably the best value of all new tubes

SNAKEBITE, I think your problem started with rebiasing your amp. I'm not sure what the Plate Voltage on your amp is, I think it's close to 410V. Most amps running 6V6's the bias should be around 19 to 23 mA. I think what you did was over stress the B- plates its no wonder the tubes are failing. Infact I'm supprised either tube is still working. A true testiment to their quality. Please rebias you amp closer to factory specs and then try again.

These tubes are dynamite. They can withstand plate voltages up to 500 volts which is in the range of a 6L6GC.These tubes are, BOTH PHYSICALLY AND ELECTRICALLY very much like the legendary westinghouse 7951A. Head room and detail. MADE for Fender amps. These and the 6V6EH are the only new made 6V6 tubes i will use.

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

I have tried various NOS 6V6 tubes in my champs and super champs: RCA Silvertone, RCA, Sylvania, Tung Sol... Also many new production tubes: EH, Ruby, Tung Sol and the variation/selections of these from: TAD, GT, Mesa etc... The simple truth is that the JJ tubes sound better and are more consistent tube to tube with less noise than all of the tubes I have tried. I did find a single RCA Silvertobe Tube that was just magical but the other two of the same tube were no good even worse than the EH GT tubes I had. So I now whole heartedly recommend the JJ 6V6S tubes ( note JJ tubes of other kinds may not works well for you; for example I do like the Tung Sol new production 12AX7 tubes better than the JJ 12AX7 tubes). Also life and resilience has been very good with these tubes. Give these big bottles a try. They do have more headroom so that may not be your thing but worth a try in my book as it is the only 6V6 tube I now use.

I purchased 2 separate JJ 6V6's for use in my single ended class A amplifier. The stock Ruby tube sounded OK and I tried EH tubes which sounded even better. I decided to try JJ's because I'd heard they were better built and more robust than the others. WRONG. Both JJ's failed within 10 minutes of use. The amp is new and biased correctly for 6V6 tubes. The JJ's each made a crackling sound and fizzed out in the same manner. I won't buy JJ power tubes again. I've had good success with their preamp tubes.

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

I bought these to replace a pair of E/H that came with a Fender Super Champ XD from 2007. One of the E/H was arcing.

JJ is sort of a standard in tubes, and I could see no harm in buying a matched pair.

The amp is a wee bit stronger now, maybe. All the "amp sound" in the Super Champ XD is really in the preamp ( the power tubes are said to not be pushed all that hard ) so so long as they can be clean, they seem to work. The E/H were a bit underbiased.

This amp may have had a marginal contact from the digital board to the rest of the amp - there's a dual row connector ribbon cable from the digital board to the rest of the amp. When I reassmbled the amp, it made no sound and would not repsond to controls. I used contact cleaner ( Caig ) to clean this, and haven't had trouble since. I have to wonder if what I thought was tube arcing wasn't a marginal contact from the digital board - the E/H seem to work fine as well.

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

I installed this tube in my 1964 Fender Champ. This tube produces more volume than most NOS tubes. It sounds clear and glassy until over driven then it has a nice bite to it. I do not like EH 6V6 tubes and the JJ 's make the EH tubes sound so bad. So if you have a choice go with the JJ's.
I bought this tube from amazon once and received it broken , they refunded my money, but I noticed that the glass is very thin. The NOS tubes have thicker glass. So that is the reason I gave it a 9, if it had thicker glass I would give it a 10.
                  Good bang for the buck.

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

I work on a lot of amps, most are vintage or reissue Fender amps. I find these tubes are pretty good, matched didn't seem to be a big issue, most come pretty close to the same specs. for current draw, so once you have the amp properly biased you probably shouldn't have to worry when changing tubes again. To the guy who pushed the bias to 40 mA on his Super Champ, you didn't need to do that. What was the plate voltage? I'm thinking something closer to 29 to 32 mA would be about average. If you don't know what your doing stop doing it. Better to run the tubes at the factory setting than fry the tubes looking for some "sweet spot". Anyway I've used 100's of tubes, NOS as well as almost every new tube on the market, I like the JJ's better than most the Russian tubes. I think some Fender tubes are just re-labeled JJ's. I'm not a big fan of EH 6V6's since a few years back I ended up with a dozen of them that were junk and everyone of them had problems. Something to remember, tubes are meant to wear out, so if you have a love for tube amps, plan on replacing tubes often. Learn how to trouble shoot problems. Todays best tubes are not as good as the old RCA's or Sylvania tubes of the late 60's, some of which I still use in a few of my amps. If you can't handle the maintenance of a tube amp then get a Solid State amp, it's that simple. FWIW I use some SS amps I think sound good as a tube amp. I have repaired fewer SS amps of than tube amps over the last 40 years.

                      About Me Professional Musician

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

This is a super tube. It is not a 6L6 (of course) and it is not an EL84 (of course) and it is not really a normal 6V6. It is really different than any other tube out there.
You should really bias your amp or have someone bias it as I would not just drop this tube in as a replacement for any other model 6V6. Oh, it would probably "work," but not at its optimum performance. It is a larger tube that takes more plate voltage than a typical 6V6 tube. To really make this baby sing like it does you need to set the amp up for it. It is a wonderful, sweet sounding tube. BUT...bias your amp accordingly. Also keep in mind that this tube set up is for 8 ohms output (as is typical of 6V6 tubes). If you have an amp that will run at 4 ohms and want to switch to this tube you should consider a dummy load of sorts on the transformer. Once again, "it will probably work," without doing that, but not at optimum. If you have an amp that currently runs 6V6 tubes, you need to set the bias on the amp to compensate for the different plate voltage and make the tube sing for you. If you want to use this as a replacement tube in an amp that runs 6L6's (unlike other 6V6's this one will probably work in that format) you can probably get away with it. BUT you must bias the amp for the tube switch and adjust the transformer output for the 8 ohm output impedance difference. Just my 2 cents worth.

Comments about JJ Electronics 6V6 Power Vacuum Tube:

I've been playing the same Les Paul through the same Laney amp for 15 years or so. I switched out my 6L6s with these JJ 6V6s, and I was amazed what a diffrent sound they brought. Natural compression on the big power chords, lots of harmonics and lots of sustain. With the volume way up, the sustain rings out with 150% more harmonic ambience than before. Just like all my favorite classic rock records. I wish I would have done this a long time ago... as I used to really have to bang on my guitar to get a lot of these sounds that just come flying out of it now. It would have saved many years' wear and tear.

The EXCELSIOR COMES STOCK WITH TUBES FROM CHINA. actually for my needs (early electric blues, they sounded pretty good. I never had JJ'S before, usually TUNG SOL and the other higher end tubes.. but i kept reading BOUT jj's.. jj's this and JJ'S that.. ordered a matched pair and the amp was transformed.. in fact the sound was so musical i took out the mullard pre tubes and replaced them with the original chinese tubes, now i have the perfect sound for my needs..i play solo and every little change helps... this was a big change my guitar goes to "elite" cable with nothing else in the path.. now my guitar tone and volume changes allow me to zero in on the sweet spot before it was just balls to the wall.. incidently the GT's ive been using have had durability problems. the twin i use to own use to eat GT'S like candy.. the bias was in range but they would get noisey, pop crack and then POP. THE gt's I had in the Excelsior sounded pretty good but lost one of the 2 6v6's after 6 weeks of normal medium volume playing. I remember when gt's were a good sounding solid tube.. i don't know whats happening with them but don't care now that I've latched on to JJ's

Bought these to replace the stock Groove Tubes in a Fender Super Champ X2.
                            They were a serious improvement.
